Volume is the amount of space an object takes up.

What is volume?

The base unit of volume in the metric system is the liter (L or l).

We will be using graduated cylinders to

find the volume of liquids and other objects.

The curve at the surface of a liquid is called a meniscus.

What is the meniscus?

The meniscus of most liquids curves up at the sides, making the center appear lower.

This happens because the molecules of the liquid attract those of the container. The glass attracts the water on the sides.

Reading the meniscus

Read from the bottom of the

curve!

ALWAYS READ AT EYE LEVEL
