Week 10 Thursday, 29th March, 2012
Dear Parents,
Some of our Year 6 students attended the Young
Leaders Day in Sydney on Monday. The children and
Mrs Hage had a fantastic time and told us about their
experiences on Tuesday morning.
Ten year 6 students went to an exciting day at Sydney
Entertainment Centre to witness five fabulous speakers,
Tom Harley – former AFL Captain and commentator,
Ronni Kahn – Founder of OzHarvest Australia, Ahn Do –
Comedian and Author, Ruben Meerman - Surfing
Scientist and Mike Martin - founder of the Halogen
Foundation and organiser of the National Young
Leaders day. All of these speakers were inspirational
and we learnt that being a leader is not about position,
it’s about influence! They also said, If you have a passion for something, you should strive to
accomplish your hopes and dreams.
We had a fantastic time as it was a wonderful and worthwhile experience.

Our students entered many events at the Goulburn Show over the weekend. Our school was
awarded 2nd prize for our school exhibit of art, craft and produce. A special thank you to Mrs
Caroline Murphy for organising our display. A number of our students received first, second and
third place ribbons and highly commended certificates. Congratulations to all of our students.
Come along to Grandparents Day and see the display in our office foyer.
Don’t forget that all eggs, colouring competitions and wonderword puzzles for the
eggstravaganza need to be in the library by tomorrow (Friday). The library is beginning to look very
eggciting and it is eggstravagantly decorated. Don’t forget to visit the library on Grandparents
Day.
Don’t forget that our first disco for the year will be held
tonight at 5.00pm. The theme is Harmony, getting along with
each other. We hope to see all of our students and parents
at the disco tonight.
Playgroup commenced last Friday, we will be making easter
Bunnies tomorrow. Come along and join the fun!!
Next Wednesday there will be a P&C meeting in the library at
6.00pm. All parents and friends are welcome to attend. We
will be discussing Grandparents Day and our upcoming
fundrasising activities. Come along and make some new
friends!!
During our staff development day on Monday 23rd April the teachers will be looking at a new
program that we will be introducing to the children in Term 2. We are looking at developing the skills in our students to enable them to become Safe, Responsible, Respectful Learners. Debbie Darling Principal

BULLYING, NO WAY! WEBSITE
A new website and mobile app have been launched to help parents and students address bullying.
The Bullying, No Way! website includes interactive applications, including a choose- your-own-adventure game for students to learn how to deal with bullying, and videos for parents and students.
The site also includes information on:
helping your child if they are being bullied identifying the signs that your child might be bullying others getting help and support.
The website and the Take a Stand Together mobile app were launched to coincide with the National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence.
The focus of the day was on recognising the important role parents, families and school communities play in the drive to stop bullying and violence.
Other resources
New videos about bullying—dealing with what it is, what to look for and how to help your child—are available on the NSW Public Schools website.
You can also visit the School A to Z website to find out what cyberbullying is and get ideas on how to safely guide your child's online experiences. Remember that children under the age of 15 should not have a facebook page. More information can be found on the NSW police website.

As the Easter long weekend approaches, thousands of families are set to hit the roads for
holiday trips. A concern for everyone across the country is always that of road safety over
the long weekend. There are more people using our roads at this time meaning there is a
higher risk for accident, injury or even death. Motorists are urged to be extra cautious,
especially at night and when passing through residential areas, due to the unpredictable
actions of pedestrians. Here are some useful road safety tips you can use to make sure your
journey is a safe one:
Don’t set off on a long trip at the end of a day’s work.
Sleep well before travelling. Don’t drive at times you would normally be asleep.
Take a 15 minute break outside your car every two hours. There are almost 100
community driver reviver sites that operate throughout NSW during holiday periods.
Eat well balanced meals at regular times. You need the energy for brain activity and
concentration while driving.
Do not use your mobile phone while driving. Turn off your mobile phone or keep it
on silent.
Pack some quiet activities for the children in the car such as portable DVD players,
books, small computer games, portable music player with headphones.
Please remember that children are inexperienced road users and that it’s important they
are supervised in the traffic environment. Please remember to:
Hold your child’s hand while in the car park, on the footpath and when crossing the
road.
Always buckle up in your seatbelt and follow the new national child restraint laws for
0-7 year olds.
Help your children exit the car using the rear passenger door on the footpath side.
Ensure your child wears a helmet and rides in a safe place away, from the road, while
on a bike, scooter or skateboard.
Easter double demerit period
Double demerit points apply to all speeding and seatbelt offences from Thursday 5 April to Monday 9 April inclusive.
