By:Josh Peretz and William Holt
Marshall Plan• When? -June 5, 1947 was not approved by Congress until 1948• What?– A plan created by George Marshall– It attempted to aid European nations and revive
economies. – It gave $13 billion over a period of four years.– helped end the threat of communism in western Europe.– Eventually replaced by the Mutual Security Plan in 1951
Did it help or hurt America’s position in the world? Why?
• This helped America’s position in the world because it “Americanized” countries through pop culture such as some Hollywood movies and Rock and Roll music.
• USA got credited because this time period was the fasted period of growth in European history (1948-1952).
• America got influence in Europe which led to end of the threat of communism in Western Europe
• Marshall Plan led the way for the USA becoming the head of NATO.
Loyalty Review Board
• When? And What?– Established by Truman in March 21, 1947.– It was an attempt to be more active in the pursuit
of spies and check on government employees.– It was an executive order and therefore was
undisclosed to Congress.– Lasted for 10 years, checked on nearly 3 million
employees.
Does this show a conservative/conformative attitude?
• Not conservative because, they were taking action even though most of the time they didn’t have a legitimate reason.
• They discharged over 2700 people and used vague words as the reason for firing them
• This action showed the U.S to be very paranoid toward possible actions by the U.S.S.R
