Richards of Sparnon Gate saw a top price per kilo of 197p for a Limousin x bought by David King of Exminster, with a Charolais x top value selling at £1,356 to Trevarthens of Roskrow.

A better number of cull cows forward met a flying trade with greater numbers required. Both top prices and overall averages further improved on recent weeks. Three super top prices – a 802kg Limousin x for Messrs. R, H.T. & R.M. Rowe of Gwinear topping at 157p/kg and £1,259 to David Ellis, a British Blue x 150p/kg for Messrs. E.V. & B.K. Benney & Son of Garras and a huge 923kg British Blue x for Messrs. S. & T. Penellum of St. Newlyn East at 148p/kg realising £1,366 to David Ellis. Standout Friesian at 141p/kg for Messrs. W.C. & W.R. A similar entry of store cattle to recent weeks met continued strong trade for all types on offer, more forward cattle selling extremely well. A grand entry of 2 year old South Devon x steers for Mr. T.G. Hawke of Colan saw trios hit £1,190 and £1,175. Two pairs of younger Charolais x steers for Messrs. J. & S. Trembath of Zennor sold at £1,130 and £1,090. Young Limousin x cattle for Mr. M.J.P. Williams of Manaccan saw yearling steers to £890 and heifers to £800. A run of yearling Herefords also for Mr. T.G. Hawke saw trios of steers and heifers to £885 and £750 respectively. Top price heifers were a smart pair of 2 year old Limousin crosses from Messrs. W.S. Gay & Son of St. Allen at £1,020.

A good entry of new season lambs presented for our Special Easter Prize Sale. Trade is well up on the preceding weeks with much higher demand across the board. Fourteen pens exceeded the £100 mark selling to a top price of £109 (263p/kg) for butchers’ quality 41.4kg lambs from Mr. D.A. Ellis of Lelant, and best pen from Messrs. J.S. & M.S. A storming trade from start to finish with all pens keenly contested. The trade speaks for itself averaging 205p/kg! Producers are urged to sell remaining hogs on the current trade and avoid penalties for hogs cutting teeth. Strong prices for all weights and types. Top price were 44.2kg Texel crosses at 225p/kg and being one of two pens at £99.50 from a run of ten from Mr. R.A. Coad of Cubert and purchased by J.V.
