I picked this relief sculpture made of clay because it is so old and I found it surprising that the representations of these animals is so realistic and so detailed. It must have been a slow, difficult process to create this so perfectly. The body shapes and details of the anatomy are perfectly scaled.

I chose this piece because I have never seen anything like it. I love that the feet of the bowl are actual feet; it gives the bowl a human element, almost like a personality. I also think it is very interesting that the bowl is made from Nile clay.

Lion Early Dynastic Periods 3000-2700 B.C.E This piece is interesting because of its simplicity. It does not have much

detail because the Egyptians were still learning how to carve stone, but the simplicity of the carvings on the white stone make the piece elegant.

2000-1600 B.C.E Egyptian This piece interests me because of the

imperfections. The designs are a little uneven and jagged, and the bowl isn’t completely smooth, but all of the little flaws make the piece come together and give the piece a rugged look.
