    Your Universal Remote requires 4 new AAA alkaline batteries. After inserting the batteries, the LCD screen

    will enter a test mode that tests all segments of the LCD screen. This procedure will last for 5 seconds.

    To install the batteries:

    1. Turn the remote over, pull up on the tab and lift the cover off.

    2. Insert the batteries matching the batteries to the (+) and (-) marks inside the battery case.

    3. Slide the ba ttery cover back into p lace.

    NO TE: The LCD display w ill prom pt you with a Low Battery icon to signify a low battery condition.

    The remote will still continue to function at this point. Although code tables for devices will be

    retained, some reprogramming m ay be required after batteries are removed.

    TVs, VCRs, DBS Systems, DVD Players, Laser Disc Players an d Au dio/ Video Receivers.

    NOTE: For u sers of RCA, GE and ProScan DBS prod ucts, older DBS models requ ire the

    INFO or MENU keys on this remote be used to make p rogramm ing selections. Use

    the SELECT key for making p rogram selections on newer RCA, GE and ProScan

    DBS models.

    INDICATOR ICON

    The Indicator Icon appears on the LCD display showing that th e remote is working.

    ONOFF

    The ONOFF key operates the same as you r original remote.NOTE: Some RCA, GE and ProScan mod els require you to press the d evice key to turn the device on and

    the POWER key to turn the device off.

    TV, VCR1, VCR2, DVD, AUX, AUD, CBL & SAT

    The TV, VCR1, VCR2, DVD, AUX, AUD, CBL and SAT keys are used to select the device youwant to control.

    L1, L2 & L3 (LEARNING)

    The L1, L2 and L3 keys are used to supplement the p reprogramm ed code library.NOTE: The standard code library provides most of the functions needed, but you can ad d a small number

    of additional functions of your choice.

    M1, M2 & M3 (MACRO)

    The M1, M2 and M3 keys are used to execute a series of key operations.NOTE: Each m acro key may be program med so that pressing it alone will carry out several key functions

    sequentially.

    VOL & CH

    The VOL (Volume) and CH (Channel) keys increase or decrease the volume level and channel numbers.

    MUTE

    Mutes the volume on you r device with volume control.

    GO BACKThe GO BACK key allows you to go to the previous channel you selected. Operates the same

    as Last Channel, Previous Channel, Go Back, or Recall key on your original remote.

    LIGHTBULB KEY

    Activates key backlighting.

    CODE SEARCH

    Used to enter the remote into the program ming sequence.

    PIP & SWAP

    PIP (Picture-In-Picture) and SWAP operates your televisions Picture-in-Picture features.

    INPUT

    The INPUT key selects the video inp uts of your device if equipped with this feature.

    SLEEP

    The SLEEP key allows you to set time for you to turn your device off automatically.

    GUIDE

    Brings up the on-screen program ming gu ide if your device has that feature.INFO

    Shows the d ate and time (Your d evice may not have this feature).

    MENU

    Brings up the Main Menu. If you are already in the m enu system, press SELECT or MENU

    key to select a highlighted choice. Use the NAVIGATION keys to move through the menu

    selections.

    CLEAR

    Removes the on-screen display to return to norm al operation of the remote.

    NAVIGATION KEYS & SELECT KEY

    Use the NAVIGATION keys to move through on-screen menu an d gu ides.

    The NAVIGATION keys may also be used to move the h ighlighted choice up, down , right or

    left. The SELECT key will choose the highlight choice.

    NOTE: With some DBS models the MENU or ENTER key should be used to select the highlighted item.

    0-9The number keys operate the sam e as on your original remote, and are u sed for entering

    device codes.

    TVVCR

    The TVVCR key operates the TV/ VCR function of your VCR.

    PLAY, FWD, PAUSE, STOP, REW & REC

    These keys operate the same as on you r original VCR or remote.

    NOTE: You must press the REC key twice to begin recording.

    ENTER

    The ENTER key is used to complete channel selection for some brand s of TV. It is also used

    to complete the highlighted sections in m enu m ode.

    Button Description For Audio Operation

    The AUDIO keys will only function w hen the remote is enabled into the AUDIO mod e. Simply

    push the AUD key to enable all aud io functions.

    CENTER, FRONT, REAR & TEST

    Adjust the levels of the center, front and rear

    speakers respectively used with LEVEL +/

    LEVEL -. The TEST key is used wh en you make

    speaker balance adjustm ents to maximize theperformance of your aud io system including this

    unit.

    AMFM

    The AMFM allows you to select the AM or FM

    band on your au dio system.

    LEVEL + & LEVEL

    The LEVEL keys are used when you w ill make

    an ad justmen t on d elay time, center

    speaker outp ut level, rear speaker ou tpu t level,

    front speaker level or su bwoofer level.

    DSP ON-OFFThe DSP key enables the receivers Digital

    Signal Processing mode.

    DSP MODE

    When the DSP mod e is enabled, pressing this

    key allows the user to cycle through th e

    various DSP modes.

    PROG

    The PROG key is used to program your Aud io

    preset channels.

    CD,TAPE,TUNER,TV,VIDEO1 & VIDEO2

    The CD,TAPE,TUNER, TV, VIDEO1 andVIDEO2 keys are used to directly select the

    device you wan t to control.

    FUNCTION

    Selects the different audio input devices. The

    number keys also select the function labeled

    below the keys when in AUDIO mode.

    DELAY-, ON & DELAY+

    Increases or decreases the delay between the

    surround and main speakers when the receiver

    is in surround sound mode.

    ON-OFF SURR, MODEON-OFF SURR switches the surround modes

    on and off. SURR MODE cycles through the

    receivers various surround sound mode

    settings.

    Getting Into Programming Mode

    ENTERING PROGRAM MODE.

    1. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key for at least

    3 seconds until a CODE SET display message is

    seen on the LCD display wind ow.

    2. One men u m essage will be shown one at a time, for

    Menu 1 throu gh 13.

    In order to access all 13 programming items shown below,

    special key press cycle must be performed to get into this

    mod e (See page 21).

    3. Use UP (v) key DOWN (w) key to scroll up or scroll

    dow n the menu messages to have the desired

    message appeared in the d isplay message window.

    4. Press SELECT to select a desired p rogramm ing

    mode.

    Programming Your Device With Code Set1. Manually turn on the device you want to program .

    2. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the

    remote window displays CODE SET.

    3. Press the SELECT key to enter into the CODE SET sequence.

    4. Use the Device or UP (v) key DOWN (w) key to scroll

    to the d esired device.(TV, VCR, TAPE, LDP, DAT, DVD, CD, TUNER, AMP, HOME,

    MISC, PHONO, CAB, SAT & VIDEO)

    5. After the desired device type is selected, find the four-digit code for the corresponding d evice in th e code lists

    starting at page 9. Enter the four-digit num ber for the

    desired setup code.

    6. Once the four-digit code has been entered press the

    SELECT key to accept the desired setup ID code. The

    LCD display window w ill show a m essage displaying

    SUCCESS or NOT FOUND to verify the ID code.

    NOTE: If the messag e display s NOT FOUND return to step 5

    and rep eat the steps again.

    7. To exit t he SETUP CODE, press CLEAR key. EXITSETUP will be displayed and the remote exits code

    setup programming.

    8. With your device on , press the CH+ (Channel Up). Some

    devices may not respond to CH+. For those devices

    press the ONOFF key. If the device responds, no further

    programming is required.

    NOTES:

    Press the CLEAR key at any time to exit the programm ing

    mode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear confirming that

    no new codes have been entered.

    When using this program ming m ethod, the code library starting on page 9 is not required. The

    remote control will automatically use the code library stored in your RCU810 remote control.

    Programming Your Device With Manual Code Search

    1. Manually turn on the device you w ant to program .

    2. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    window displays CODE SET.

    3. Step through th e programm ing menu u sing the

    UP (v) key or DOWN (w) key for MAN SRCH,

    then press the SELECT key.

    4. Use the Device or UP (v) key DOWN (w) key to scroll

    to the d esired d evice.(TV, VCR, TAPE, LDP, DAT, DVD, CD, TUNER, AMP, HOME,

    MISC AUD, PHONO, CAB, SAT & VIDEO)

    5. After the desired device type is selected, press SELECT

    key to step th rough th e code library. The remotemu st be in a position where a signal can be sent out to

    your d evice.

    6. Begin the m anual search w ith the DOWN (w) key to

    advan ce to next code from the top of the list. Use UP (v)

    key to preview the p revious code.

    NOTE: The code list is defau lted so you can only scroll throu gh

    the list once. Once the m anual code search comp letes

    advancing through all the codes in the remote library, the

    message END CYCLE will be displayed for 1 second

    followed by th e display m essage EXIT SETUP for 1

    second, and the remote w ill exit the m anual code search.

    7. When stepping through the code library the remote

    will automatically send out a Power Off or ChannelUp signal to check if the code is valid.

    8. When the selected device turns off, the four-digit code

    is valid. Press the SELECT key to accept th e code and

    exit the m anual search mod e. The LCD display window

    will show a m essage displaying SUCCESS and

    automatically EXIT SETUP for its original operation.

    9. With your device on , press the CH+ (Channel Up). Some

    devices may not respond to CH+. For those devices

    press the ONOFF key. If the device responds, no further

    programming is required.

    NOTE

    Press the CLEAR key at any time to exit the programm ingmode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear confirming that no

    new codes have been entered.

    If about 30 seconds passes before a key is pressed, the LCD

    display wind ow w ill stop transm ission to conserve battery life.

    If this occurs, restar t from step 1.

    1. Manually turn on the device you w ant to program .

    2. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    window displays CODE SET.

    3. Step through th e programm ing menu u sing the

    UP (v) key or DOWN (w) key for AUTO SRCH,

    then press the SELECT key.

    4. Use the Device or UP (v) key DOWN (w) keys to scroll

    to the d esired d evice.(TV, VCR, TAPE, LDP, DAT, DVD, CD, TUNER, AMP, HOME,

    MISC AUD, PHONO, CAB, SAT & VIDEO)

    5. After the desired device type is selected, press the

    SELECT key to start the auto search m ode. The remote

    mu st be in a position where a signal can be sent out to

    your d evice.

    NOTE: The UP (v) key DOWN (w) key or any other key p ressed

    will stop the auto search and the remote w ill go into

    manu al search that begins the next code or the code before

    from the currently selected code.

    6. When stepping through the code library the remote

    will automatically send out a Power Off or Channel

    Up signal to check if the code is valid.

    NOTE: The code list is defaulted so you can only scroll throughthe list once. Once the auto code search comp letes

    advan cing throu gh all the codes in the rem ote library, the

    message END CYCLE will be displayed for 1 second

    followed by the display m essage EXIT SETUP for 1

    second, and th e remote will exit the au to code search.

    7. When the selected device turns off, the four-digit code

    is valid. Press the SELECT key to save the code and

    exit the au to search mode. The LCD display wind ow

    will show a m essage displaying SUCCESS and

    automatically EXIT SETUP for its original operation.

    8. With your device on , press the CH+ (Channel Up). Some

    devices may not respond to CH+. For those devices

    press the ONOFF key. If the device responds, no further

    programming is required.

    Audio Components (CD Player, Amplifier, Receiver, Tape Decks, Phono, LD Player),

    Hom e, Misc, DVD Player or a second TV, VCR, DBS Satellite System or Cable Box.

    Programming For AUX Key Code Set

    1. Find the four digit code for the device you wish to

    program in the code list starting on page 9.

    2. Manually turn on the device you want to program and

    press and release the AUX key on the remote.

    You can p rogram an AUX device using any one of the

    three programming procedures (CODE SET, MAN

    SRCH or AUTO SRCH). The steps below will guide you

    with the CODE SET programming method.

    To program your AUX key using MAN SRCH or AUTO

    SRCH refer to pages 6 or 7.

    3. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the

    remote window displays CODE SET.

    4. Press the SELECT key to enter into the CODE SET sequence.

    5. Use the UP (v) key DOWN (w) key to scroll to the

    desired d evice for your AUX key.(TV, VCR, TAPE, LDP, DAT, DVD, CD, TUNER, AMP, HOME,

    MISC, PHONO, CAB, SAT & VIDEO)

    6. After the desired device type is selected, enter the four-

    digit code for the corresponding d evice.

    7. Once the four-digit code has been entered press the

    SELECT key to accept the desired setup ID code. The

    LCD display window w ill show a m essage displayingSUCCESS or NOT FOUND to verify the ID code.

    NOTE: If the messag e display s NOT FOUND return to the code

    library and try another code.

    8. To exit t he SETUP CODE, press CLEAR key. EXIT

    SETUP will be displayed and the remote exits code

    setup programming.

    9. With your device on , press the CH+ (Channel Up). Some

    devices may not respond to CH+. For those devices

    press the ONOFF key. If the device responds, no further

    programming is required.

    NOTE

    Learning A Key Sequence

    1. Place the RCU810 remote control unit and the other

    remote control unit so that they face each other. Theyshould n ot be any more than 2 inches apart.

    2. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    window displays CODE SET.

    3. Step through the programming menu u sing the

    UP (v) key or DOWN (w) key for IR LEARN,

    then press the SELECT key.

    4. Choose the desired device key then press the SELECT

    key to continue on to the next step.

    The remote w ill display LEARNING message for at

    least 5 seconds to allow you to capture the IR data.

    5. Press a valid key to be learned on the RCU810 remote

    control in w hich you w ill store a new function.

    The L1, L2, L3 or other function keys may be used in this

    program ming mod e. When using the other function keys

    it is important to h ave the other remote in the samedevice mode as the RCU810.

    6. Press and h old the key on th e other remote control,

    which has the function you want to store. Hold the key

    for at least 3 seconds or until a m essage displays in

    the window.

    7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 to store more functions.

    8. When the selected fun ctions are stored press the

    CLEAR key to exit the IR LEARN programming

    mod e. The LCD display window w ill show a m essage

    displaying EXIT SETUP and retu rn to original operationmode.

    NOTES: Every time a code is successfully learned, the display

    window will show SUCCESS.

    P ress th e CLEAR key at any time to exit the programm ingmode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear confirming thatno new codes have been entered.

    If a key, which cannot learn another function, is pressed, thedisplay window will display an INVALID message.

    The learning capacity is approximately 16 to 25 keys,depend ing on the function being learned.

    The Learning feature is used as a supplement to the standard preprogrammed library. The

    standard code library provides most of the functions needed, but you can add a small

    num ber of add itional functions of your choice.

    Setting-Up The Volume Lock

    Unlocking The Volume

    1. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    window displays CODE SET.

    2. Step through th e programm ing menu u sing the

    UP (v) key or DOWN (w) key for VOL LOCK,

    then press the SELECT key.

    3. The display message TO MODE will show for you to

    enter the d evice to app ly the volume lock.

    4. Push the d evice key of your choice to app ly the

    VOL LOCK mode.

    5. If the entered device is a valid one, a SUCCESS

    message will be displayed and the remote will

    automatically exit the Volume Lock mode with a

    final message EXIT SETUP.

    If any key o ther th an t he TV, VCR1, VCR2, CBL, SAT, DVD,

    AUD & AUX, devices are selected, an error message INVALID

    will be displayed, and th e remote w ill remain in the Volume

    unlock programming mode.

    since manu facturers prod ucts do not all work the same w ay.

    The Volume Unlock mode will apply if the Volume Lock has been activated.

    1. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    then press the SELECT key.

    3. Once the SELECT key is pressed a SEL MACKEY

    message will display for you to input a Macro Key

    (M1, M2, M3).

    Key is entered.

    4. The display message ENTER SEQ will be shown.

    You can begin entering the series of keystrokes, up

    to 15 keys, that you wish to be p layed back when you

    press the design ated Macro key. After the very first key

    for the m acro sequence is entered, the d isplay message

    will change to SEL TO END.

    NOTE: If more than 15 keys are entered, a message ERROR

    followed by MAX=15 will be shown. The remote willreturn to SEL MACKEY again for you to setup m acro

    sequence again.

    5. Press and hold dow n the SELECT key for 3 seconds tocomplete the programm ing sequence. The SELECT keymust be pressed and held down for at least 3

    seconds to exit the sequence.

    6. The remote w ill then d isplay the message SUCCESS,

    followed by the m essage EXIT SETUP and return to its

    normal operation.

    Mode Mapping

    3. The display message FROM MODE will show for you to

    select a d evice key.

    display message will prompt you to enter the TO MODE

    device. Push the desired device key.

    6. When a valid TO MODE device is entered, the rem ote

    will automatically process the mode reassignment and a

    displayed message SUCCESS will be shown. The

    remote w ill then EXIT SETUP and return to its normal

    operation.

    Setting The Minutes For The Sleep Timer

    Setting The Clock Time

    1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    window d isplays CODE SET.

    2. Step through the program ming m enu u sing the

    UP (v) key or DOWN (w) key for CLOCK SET,

    then press the SELECT key.

    3. After the SELECT key is entered, the remote will display

    the hours and minutes clock time.

    4. Use the UP (v) key to modify the hours and the DOWN (w)

    key for setting up the minutes.

    NOTE: To set the AM or PM appropriately use the UP (v) key and

    step through the hours for the correct setting.

    5. Once the time is setup to the correct time, push the SELECT

    key to complete the setup. The display messages SUCCESS

    followed by EXIT SETUP will be shown, and return to its

    normal operation.

    The Clock Time will function automatically after you program the time, following the

    directions below.

    1. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    window d isplays CODE SET.

    2. Step through the programming menu for

    SLEEP SET, then press the SELECT key.

    3. The display window will first display 000 as number of

    minutes to start the Sleep Timer time setting. You w ill be

    allowed to enter the desired minutes value. Any key other

    than Digit Keys (0-9) entered here w ill result in an INVALID

    message d isplay.

    NOTE: A valid value of minutes must not be greater than 240 minutes,

    otherwise an ERROR message displays followed by MAX=240,

    promp ting you to re-input the minu te values.

    4. Once the desired time for SLEEP SET has been selected, push

    the SELECT key to complete the Sleep Timer Setting. The

    Sleep Timer is now setup and the remote will return to its

    normal operation.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Sleep Timer, as setup above,is for setup ONLY,not to begin the sleep timer action.

    5. To start the sleep timer, press the SLEEP key. Once the Sleep

    Timer has taken its effect it is important to keep the remote

    aimed at the device to be turned off.

    Pressing any other key will exit the Sleep Timer and the remote will

    return to its normal operation.

    Pressing the SLEEP key again w ill reset the Sleep Timer again to its

    original preset value.

    The Sleep Timer Function will turn off your d evice automatically after you program the time interval.

    Operations Reset

    1. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    window displays CODE SET.

    2. Step through th e programm ing menu u sing the

    UP (v) key or DOWN (w) key for OPS RESET,

    then press the SELECT key.

    3. Once the SELECT key is entered, the remote w ill display

    a message CLR SETUP and remain displayed until the

    SELECT key is pressed again.

    4. After th e SELECT key has been pressed, the remote w ill

    perform a complete Operations Reset. Once the

    Operations Reset is complete the remote will exit the

    Operations Reset mode and return to its normal

    operation.

    NOTE:

    mode. An EXIT SETUP message will appear an d the remote

    will return to its normal operation.

    The Operations Reset clears all custom setup features not related to device code. It is an easy procedure

    to reset your remote for customized functions like Learning a key sequence or Macro keys.

    Manufacturing ResetThe Manufacturing Reset functions the same as Operations Reset above, with the exception

    that the remote resets all the programm ed features in your remote.

    1. Press and h old the CODE SEARCH key until the remote

    window displays CODE SET.

    2. Imm ediately press and release the REC key. The rem ote

    will autom atically enter the programm ing mode wh ere

    the Manufacturing Reset will be accessed.

    3. Step through the programming menu using the

    UP (v) key or DOWN (w) key for MFR RESET,

    then press the SELECT key.

    4. Once the SELECT key is entered, the remote w ill display

    a message CONFIRM and remain displayed until the

    SELECT key is pressed.

    5. After the SELECT key has been pressed, the remote

    will perform a complete Operations Reset. Once theOperations Reset is complete the remote will exit the

    Operations Reset mode and return to its normal

    operation.

    6. Reprogramming of your d evice codes are required

    because the programm ed code are reset to the original

    default d evice codes.

    NOTE:

    Operating Audio Functions

    TURNING ON THE RECEIVER OR MINI-SYSTEM

    Point the remote control at the receiver and press the AUDIO key. The receiver should tur n on.

    In some cases, it m ay require pressing the AUDIO key and then the ONOFF key to turn the

    system on.

    SELECTING THE DEVICE INPUT

    Depending on the features of your receiver or mini-system, the device inputs such as CD or

    TAPE may be selected. Inpu t selection may be mad e either by pressing the labeled d igit keys,

    or by pressing FUNCTION key to scroll through the inpu ts available on your system.

    USING THE NUMBER KEYS TO CHANGE AUDIO DEVICES

    To select a device, press the number key (1-6) that corresponds

    with the d evice you want t o operate (CD, TAPE, TUNER, TV,

    VIDEO1, VIDEO2).

    USING THE FUNCTION KEY TO CHANGE AUDIO DEVICES

    To select a device, press the FUNCTION key until the input you

    want to operate appears on your system.

    OPERATING A CD PLAYER OR TAPE DECK

    Use the PLAY, REW, FWD, RECORD, STOP & PAUSE keys for

    CD player and tap e decks. In some cases, the Preset keys

    (CH+ / CH-) may work in changing tracks on your CD player.

    OPERATING THE AMFM TUNER

    1. Press the AUDIO key.

    2. Press the TUNER key.

    3. Press the AMFM key to switch between AM and FM.

    4. Use the CH+ or CH- keys to move up and down channel

    presets.

    OPERATING A HOME THEATRE SURROUND SOUND SYSTEMWith RCA receivers, a second press of the TV key should tu rn

    the receiver on.

    1. Turn th e TV on.

    2. Press the AUDIO key.

    3. Select the Aud io input either by using the labeled n um ber key

    of the FUNCTION key.

    4. Press the VOL+ or VOL- keys to control the volume.

    NOTE: The volum e keys may operate both TV and receiver volum e at

    the same time. If this presents a problem, it may be resolved by

    disabling the TV speakers by going into the TV menu.

    CONTROLLING THE SURROUND SOUND FEATURES

    The Surround Sound features may be turned ON/ OFF bypressing the SURR ONOFF key.

    Press the SURR MODE key until the desired mod e is found.

    Press the DELAY+ or DELAY- to achieve the desired delay effect.

    Press the DSP ONOFF key to turn DSP (Digital Signal Processor) ON or OFF.

    Press the DSP key until the desired effect is achieved.

    Press the TEST key to listen to speaker levels.

    Press FRONT, CENTER or REAR keys to select speakers.

    Press LEVEL+ or LEVEL- keys to adjust speaker levels.

    This remote does not work all brand s of audio equipm ent. See pages 12 and 13 for the Audio

    code and bran d lists to operate your brand of equipment. You ma y need to experiment with

    your system since manu facturers prod ucts do not all work the same w ay.

    Menu FunctionsThe Menu function is used to make changes in the selected settings such as color, channels,

    timer, etc. The MENU key invokes most m ajor brand s like RCA, GE, ProScan, Sony, Magnavox,

    Philips and Zenith with Menu functions. Each m enu m ode will vary with bran d. You m ay need

    to experiment with your system since manu facturers prod ucts do not all work the same w ay.

    1. Push th e device key on the remote for the desired m enuscreen.

    2. Push th e MENU key. This allows you to view the menu

    of the device chosen.

    3. While in Menu m ode these keys will function as

    follows:

    Navigation Left/ Right keys will operate as cursor

    right and left.

    Navigation Up/ Down keys will operate as cursor

    up and down. The SELECT or MENU key will apply the highlighted

    menu item.

    4. Not all functions in competitive models and brand s of

    televisions m ay be fully supp orted. You m ay need to

    experiment with using the MENU or ENTER keys to

    make a selection of your choice.

    5. To exit the Menu m ode and clear the screen, push the

    device key you have chosen on the remote or the

    CLEAR key.
