Solving problems experienced by students in the class room and in the laboratories Clarifying the regulations of the degree programme and the details of rules therein

Informing the student representatives the academic schedule including the dates of assessments and the syllabus coverage for each assessmentInforming the student representatives the details of Regulations regarding weightage used for each assessment. In the case of practical courses (laboratory/ drawing/ project work/ seminar etc. ) the breakup of marks for each experiment/ exercise/ module of work, is clearly discussed in the class committee meeting and informed to the students.

Analyzing the performance of the students of the class after each test and finding the ways and means of solving problems, if any

Identifying the weak students, if any, and requesting the teachers concerned to provide some additional help or guidance or coaching to such weak students.

The class committee for a class under a particular branch is normally constituted by the head of the department. However, if the students of different branches are mixed in each class of the first semester (generally common to all branches), the class committee is to be constituted by the Head of the Institution.

The class committee will be constituted on the first working day of any semester.

At least 4 student representatives (usually 2 boys and 2 girls) will be included in the class committee.

The chairperson of the class committee may invite the Faculty adviser(s) and the Head of the department to the meeting of the class committee.

The Head of the institution may participate in any class committee of the institution.

The chairperson is required to prepare the minutes of every meeting, submit the same to the head of the institution within two days of the meeting and arrange to circulate among the concerned students and teachers. If there are some points in the minutes requiring action by the management, the same shall be brought to the notice of the management by the head of the institution.

The first meeting of the class committee shall be held within one week from the date of commencement of the semester, in order to inform the students about the nature and weightage of assessments within the framework of the Regulations. Two or three subsequent meetings is also held at suitable intervals. During these meetings the student members representing the entire class, shall meaningfully interact and express the opinions and suggestions of the class students to improve the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process.

Mechanism/Norms & Procedure for democratic/good Governance

The following committees have been formed and norms and procedures for democratic/good governance laid down. 1. Head of the Departments are requested to conduct meetings every month along with their staff members and matters related to academic affairs are discussed in the staff meeting.

2. Head of the Departments at the time of the Meeting with the Principal discuss the points raised at the staff meeting and procedures are laid down for improving the Performance of the students and also for smooth functioning of the Institute.

3. Regular meetings are held by the Principal with the class representative to discuss regarding the hardship if any, faced by the students in their Academic schedule, and steps are formulated to clear the barriers to make them perform well in their studies.

4. Principal convenes Hostel and mess representative meetings to elicit the views of the students for the smooth functioning of the Hostel and Mess.

5. In addition there are other Technical and Non-Technical Association, Clubs and forums for students to air their views.

Placement Facilities

A Placement and training cell with Principal as patron , Professor L.Peter Stanley Bebington as Placement and Training Officer, Mr.S.Tharves

Mohideen as Additional Placement Officer, Placement secretary and student representatives from each department, is functioning in the Institute to look after the placement activities .

312 of the 2008 passed students were placed in reputed companies and 150 of the 2009 passing out students are placed and the placement process is still on.

An Advisory Committee has also been formed for Training and Placement Cell with the Principal as the Chairman and the Training and Placement Officer as the Convener. The meetings are held at the end of each semester to take stock of the achievements and constraints of the training and placement activities.

An MOU has been signed by the institute with Infosys , Bangalore and our Institution is associated with Infosys Development Centre (DC) at Mysore. Mr.M.Raja, SG Lecturer, Department of ECE attended the course on Computer Networks as part of the Indo-US Engineering Faculty Leadership institute at the Global Education Center of Infosys Technologies from June 9 to June13,2008.

MOU has also been signed with the following industries1. TAFE,Chennai.2. Sathyam Computers, Chennai.3. FLSmidth, Chennai.4. Sutherland Global Services.

Students visit the above industries for implant training and also do projects for these industries. Guest lectures by experts from the above industries are arranged for the students.

An MoU has been signed with IBM, Bangalore. Dr.A.Saradha and Mr.K.S.Thirunavukarasu have been deputed to undergo the Trainers Training Program at IBM Bangalore for a period of four days. IBM Bangalore have also given one web server and number of software CDs for training the students in the campus.

An Entrepreneurship Awareness camp was conducted for the students from 6-8-08 to 8-8-08 to enlighten the students about self employment.

The institute is the SAE Career Start Written Test Centre of western Tamilnadu.

The placement cell maintains a rich alumni data base through which the students keep themselves updated of the happenings in the corporate area. Various reputed concerns visit our campus frequently to recruit our high caliber engineers. We get regular placement services from companies ON/OFF campus.

XI. CRITERIA AND WEIGHTAGES FOR ADMISSION

Describe each criteria with its respective weightages i.e. Admission Test, marks in qualifying examination etc. Qualifying Examination – A mere pass in HSC or its equivalent with the minimum average percentage in the relevant subjects or A pass in any one of the HSC (Vocational Stream) prescribed for B.E Degree admissions or any other equivalent qualification approved by the State Board of Technical Education and Training / Higher Secondary Board of Tamilnadu / Anna University for Engineering Admissions. Qualifying Examinations Marks (Maths – 100 marks, Physics + Chemistry- 100 marks) Total –200 marks Cut off marks = 200 marks

Mention the minimum level of acceptance, if any.

For SC/ST Candidates, a mere pass in the qualifying examination. The minimum marks are same as the passing minimum for HSC of State of Tamilnadu.

Candidates belonging to communities other than SC/ST should have obtained the following minimum average percentage.
