UNCONVENTIONAL MASHOTHER THINGS TO WITH THE MATERIAL

TURNING MINOR TO MAJOR - This tune has no ‘minor notes’ and so is easy to convert to major. Stack the harmony at the 5th and the 3rd and convert any ‘minor notes’ in theharmony parts to major ones.

MAJOR/MINOR ALTERNATING - This tune has a minor third. Keep it in there but put major thirds and sixths in the harmony parts….

Top Tips• Some of the best results are from happy accidents. What looks

like it will work on paper might turn out to be quite bland so dare to experiment.

• Don’t worry about consecutive harmony, it feels satisfying to sing and is quick to pick up.

• Be current with your music choices - the idea is that themes do not really need to be taught. TV adverts are a good source or look at the top 40 singles chart.

• Take suggestions from students and deputise them in as ‘leader’.
