THERE ARE TWO ROUNDS OF REGISTRATION In order to increase the likelihood that all students can get into at least one class of their choosing, we will have two separate rounds of registration. Round One: Saturday, February 28, 10:00 AM – Wednesday, March 4, 11:59 PM In Round One, students may sign up for one class only (either a series class that meets multiple times OR a class that meets one time). Round Two: Saturday, March 7, 10:00 AM – Wednesday, March 11, 11:59 PM In Round Two, students may sign up for up to five additional classes. (A series class that meets multiple times counts as one class). *** Remember - No registration is final until confirmed by the system administrator. ***

GEHMS Magnetic Attractions 2015

Sign up for your favorite activities for fun, friends and a lifetime of memories! Something for Everyone! We have more than 90 classes to offer this year! All classes run from 3:30-4:30 PM except PreK classes which run 3-4PM. Pickup time is 4 PM for PreK and 4:30 PM for all others. Please be on time to pick up your child. Behavior Expectations GEHMS Magnetic Attractions is an enrichment program to be enjoyed by all students. Instructors are volunteers who are generously donating their time—behave! Mean or disruptive behaviors are serious issues that affect learning and the enjoyment of the program for the entire class. In order to preserve and extend that right to all students, enrollees in this program who do not adhere to school behavior guidelines will be removed from class and will not be allowed to participate in any remaining MA classes.

Payments/Refunds Payment for all class fees, if any, is due at time of registration. Your spot will not be reserved until payment is received. Payments will be processed through PayPal at the time of registration. (Your receipt will indicate a payment made to Anh-Thi Mouradov, PTO Co-Treasurer.) If you do not have computer access and are completing a paper registration, please submit a check or money order to “GEHMS PTO” and place in the PTO mailbox in the main office. ***Remember – your registration can not be confirmed until payment is received.*** Your payment will be refunded if classes are full or cancelled.

1. Follow the instructions for online registration carefully. Improperly completed registrations may mean that your student does not get into classes of their choosing.

2. You will receive one confirmation email per class. 3. Class locations will be announced each day during after-school announcements. 4. Are you available to volunteer? Helpers are requested for most classes and are

appreciated in any classes. Please sign up during registration if you are able to help on a particular date for a class.

PAINTING WITH ACRYLICS ON CANVAS (3 part series class)

Date: Thursdays April 2, April 9, & April 23 Grades K-3

We will use acrylic paints on canvas to create a unique custom piece. We will go over brainstorming,

planning, inspiration, blending, line work, and color choices. Discover your inner artist! All students must

bring a smock to wear. (This is a three part series class.)

MANDALAS

Learn about mandalas, color mandalas, and create our own mandalas! What is a mandala? Mandala means

"sacred circle" in Sanskrit, and mandalas are abstract circle designs used in cultures such as Buddhism,

Hinduism and Navajo. Come create your own beautiful mandala and learn about this unique art form!

ORIGAMI – BEGINNING

PERLER BEAD FUN

Date: Monday, April 6 Grades 1-5

Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Limit: 8 Students

Cost: $3

Perler beads are a creative craft where students place colored plastic beads on a pegboard and fuse them into

a solid design with a hot iron. Choose from a variety of designs or create your own. Students will go home

with their creations, a pegboard, and a small bag of beads so they can continue the creative fun at home.

PAPER MACHE MASKS

Date: Mondays, April 20 & 27 (2 part series) Grades 3-5

Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Limit: 5 students

Cost: $4

Students will make a paper mache mask and paint it. The first week students will form the basic mask by

adding paste and paper pulp to a mask blank, forming noses, horns, etc. The second week they will paint it.

Dress for a mess, and be prepared to transport a still wet mask home on the 27th!

PHOTOGRAPHY

Date: Tuesday April 21 & 28 (2 part series class) Grades: 3-5

Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Limit: 6 students

Cost: $6

An Introduction to Studio Photography. We’ll study composition, lighting and depth field to create

beautiful still life images that will be turned into a 5x7 card or matted print. Students can bring in objects to

be photographed or use the ones I provide. No camera necessary, but feel free to bring one if you’d like!

(This class meets two times.)

POLYMER CLAY BEADS

Date: Thursday, April 23 Grades 2-5

Time: 3:30 – 4:30 PM Limit: 12 students

Cost: $5

We will work with polymer clay to create beads and flat shapes for making necklaces, bracelets, or key

chains. Polymer clay is an oil based synthetic clay that is easy to mold and can be cured in a home oven.

turn their art into post cards or greeting cards! (Printmaking I and II are two separate sessions, but feel free

SOAP MAKING

Date: Friday April 24 Grades 3-5

Have you ever wanted to design your own soap? You’ll help choose fragrances & colors in this fun class.

Using melt & pour type soaps, we’ll be making a variety of different projects including Loaf Soap, Beauty

Soap, and Layer Soap.

STORY TIME and CRAFT I & II (2 separate classes)

Explore fun and exciting worlds through stories. Then enjoy creating a craft following the same theme!

TIE DYED T-SHIRTS – BASIC

Date: Monday, April 27 Grades 1-3

Time: 3:30 - 4:30 PM Limit: 12 students

Cost: $12

Did you know that tie-dye is an ancient art form practiced in Africa and Japan among other places? Dyes

allowed people to beautify their clothing and, in fact, dyed clothing was traditionally a sign of prestige

within many communities. Come and learn about the tie-dye process. Each child will make a spiral tie-dye

t-shirt using professional textile dyes which retain their brilliant colors. Please indicate shirt size on the

registration form. S=6-8, M=10-12, L=14-16, XL=18-20. Adult sizes are available upon request on the

registration form. Remember to bring a smock to class if possible. Students will receive their completed

shirts a few days after the class. Parents, please indicate if you can help with this class.

ADVANCED CHEESEMAKING

Date: Wednesday April 22 Grades 3-5

Time: 3:30-4:30 PM Limit: 8 students

Expand your cheese making knowledge! Make two of the world’s most popular cheeses, mozzarella and

cheddar, with a master cheese maker. We will taste different cheeses at the end of class. It is useful but not

required to have taken the introductory Cheese Making class in this year or a previous year. Please

The craft of making cheese dates back at least 4000 years! We will make ricotta and make cheese curd using

This class is a student favorite! Get together with friends and play games. This class will feature

Mrs. Mroz’s famous CHESS game along with other classics and some new ones! If you know how to set up

Chess, Chinese Checkers, and other board games and the basic rules to these games, please consider joining

your child in this class to help each week. This is a three part series class.

INTRO TO DRUMS – 4 part series

Do you have a good sense of rhythm? Are you tapping on your desk or on your furniture and you just can’t

stop? This class, taught by drummer Mark Stevens from DuBaldo Music Center/Beller’s Music, teaches you

the basics of drumming using a practice pad and drum sticks.

The $66 fee includes $36 instructor fee plus $30 materials fee. Required materials are: tunable practice pad,

drum sticks, Breeze Easy Drums Book #1. These items will be made available at the first class. DuBaldo

Music Center/Beller’s Music is providing materials at a $10 discount. If you purchase materials on your

own, the materials fee will be adjusted accordingly. Participants will also receive a coupon for a discount on

music lessons at Beller’s Music in Downtown Manchester.

JAZZ CHOREOGRAPHY & DANCE PARTY

Have you wondered what it’s like to play violin or cello? Teachers from DuBaldo Music Center/Beller’s

Music will teach you how. Bronwyn Burns, professional violinist and Carlton Burns, a Magnet School

graduate, will bring instruments and expertise in helping students understand how the instruments function.

With instruction, students will have the opportunity to play the instruments of their choice. This is a series

class with the goal of learning to play a piece on a chosen instrument for the final class.

** It is strongly recommended that students bring a violin or rent one ($27 payable to DuBaldo Music

Center at the first class) so they can practice at home throughout the course. Please email
