The month of May opens the city’s festival season, and the fi rst Sunday belongs to the Madeira Art Fair, celebrating its 55th anniversary. Stroll Miami Avenue to view a variety of artists’ handiwork. Spark your own creativity at Mad

Potter by trying your hand at painting pottery or learn how to mosaic at Hyatt

Art Studio. The Madeira Farmers’ Market,

named “Best Suburban Farmers’ Mar-ket” by Cincinnati Magazine in 2013, opens its outside venue Thursdays from

3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. May through Sep-tember at Dawson Road and Miami Av-enue. Pick up farm-to-table offerings, and check out food demos and special events too.

On May 25 the city and residents honor our veterans at the annual Me-morial Day March. The event begins at Madeira Middle School with a walk down Miami Avenue to Dawson Road and ends with a brief ceremony on the Veteran’s Memorial Plaza. The sixth an-nual Madeira Criterium Bike Race and 5K Walk/Run on June 28 benefi ts the Arthritis Foundation and the Ju-venile Diabetes and Research Founda-tion. The event attracts more than 300 professional and amateur competitors, with thousands of spectators lining the streets to catch the excitement.

The annual Independence Dayactivities open on July 2 at 6:30 p.m. with the Madeira Mile, a 1K family fun run and street race on Miami Av-enue. A parade follows, and fi reworks at Sellman Park by Arthur Rozzi Py-rotechnics Famous Fireworks end the evening’s festivities with a bang. Mad-cap Puppets make an appearance at the McDonald Commons Shelter on July 11, and on July 19, the shelter will host the annual July Concert in the Park. On August 15, the an-nual Street Dance & Family Fest signals the end of summer with a live band and a host of fun activities. The Open Classic Car, Truck, and Mo-torcycle Show follows on August 16.

Winter events and celebrations begin with the second annual Girls Night Out Holiday Edition on November 5. Holiday spirits will be in full swing as participating retailers distribute goodie bags and refreshments. Family-friendly events are a highlight of the year with the highly anticipated St. Nicholas Sleigh Ride through the city and sur-rounding neighborhoods in December.

Shop In Madeira takes place on December 5. Visit local retailers to check everyone off your holiday list, then gath-er for the tree lighting at Millennium Fountain Plaza during the Light Up Madeira celebration. Pile the whole family in the car and take a scenic drive through Madeira neighborhoods the week of December 6 to take a peek at the homes participating in the Holiday Home Decorating Contest.
