LOCATIONA beautiful place to live! The Brookings-Harbor area is located in the middle of America’s Wild Rivers Coast at the southwestern corner of Oregon. It is the southern gateway to the beautiful and world-famous Oregon Coast. We are bordered on the west by the Pacifi c Ocean, on the east by the Siskiyou National Forest which includes the Kalmiopsis Wilderness Area, on the north by the Cape Sebastian headland and on the south by California’s Del Norte County. Our Curry County coastline is generally acknowledged as the most accessible, pristine, ruggedly spectacular, and picturesque coastline on all of the West Coast.

PORT OF BROOKINGS-HARBOR The Port of Brookings-Harbor is a shallow-draft harbor with 14 or less feet depth. It is considered the busiest and safest recreational port on the Oregon Coast, and also hosts an active commercial fi shing fl eet with all the related support services.

CLIMATEOur mild climate is extraordinary!Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Brookings is protected by the Cape Ferrelo headland, is warmed by the Chetco Effect and faces south to catch the sunshine. The Brookings area enjoys a banana belt reputation along the Oregon Coast and often calls itself “The Home of Winter Flowers.” However, conditions can vary just a few miles from downtown Brookings depending on changes in elevation, wind conditions and the moderating influence of the ocean.

ECONOMIC PROFILE The Brookings-Harbor economy has diversified from its traditional foundations of wood products, commercial fishing, agriculture and tourism to include new activity in the service industry and small independent businesses. Brookings-Harbor has become the marketplace for a service area encompassing a population of approximaterly 50,000 people along America’s Wild Rivers Coast. New businesses are attracted by the year-’round mild climate, natural beauty and relaxed quality of life, all of which are among the best to be found on the West Coast. These assets appeal to visitors and potential

residents, but are also attractive to businesses looking to escape the pressures of urban sprawl. With the continued development of the electronic marketplace, many types of businesses are no longer tied to metropolitan areas. New fiber optics redundancy lines and high-speed internet provide new opportunities for new business development in Brookings-Harbor. Situated on U.S. Highway 101, Brookings-Harbor is served by several overnight parcel delivery services and other short and long-haul trucking companies. CULTURE The Performing Arts run deep in the Brookings-Harbor community. Several theater groups produce a variety of theatrical productions year-round. These popular shows include drama, melodrama, comedy and musical productions. Community music groups take several forms. The ORCA Singers is a choir sponsored by the community college. The Curry/Del Norte Orchestra offers semi-annual concerts. Stagelights Musical Community organizes regular open mic events, concerts and classes. The American Music Festival is a summer-long series of free concerts held in beautiful Azalea Park at the “Stage Under the Stars” amphitheater, co-sponsored by the Brookings-Harbor Chamber of Commerce. There are also concerts presented by the Friends of Music, Community Concerts Association, and the Pistol River Concert Association. Performances and concerts by school groups are always open to the public. Art is on display in venues throughout the community, with several sites open for special hours during the monthly Second Saturday Art Walk in and around downtown Brookings.
