THE RE-LAUNCH OF

On Tuesday June 26, 2012 BiBo Restaurant held an event to launch the newly-designed menu of

real, authentic Italian cuisine. The BiBo Restaurant is owned by two passionate Italians, Lorenzo Bottazzi and Andrea Bini.

Lorenzo and Andrea have an experienced palette for fresh and high quality ingredients, Italian recipes and exceptional wines. Lorenzo Bottazzi, co-owner and visionary for The BiBo, has travelled to many corners of the globe and experienced some of the best dishes and ingredients. Their vision is to create an Italian experience in Vancouver that focuses specifically on preparing exceptional ingredients and authentic Italian pizza, pasta and meat dishes for guests. The BiBo’s master pizza maker, Salvatore, trained for four years by one of the most prestigious pizza makers in Naples, Italy, home of the pizza.

Pizza is an art form; it takes precision, rhythm, pa-tience and technique to prepare the most authentic Italian pizza. The recipe for the pizza dough, used exclusively at The BiBo, is a very specific blend of different flours. All of The BiBo’s pizzas are crispy and bubbly on the outside, tender and light on the inside! The BiBo offers a true Italian experience to please all ages … enjoy watching the master pizza maker, Salva-tore create the pizzas in the wood burning oven.

The re-launch event was a great success. There were plenty of wine being poured and the guests were enjoying the food immensely. The owners were bask-ing in the enjoyment of their guests and were readily available to answer questions about the food and how to make reservations.

Bibo is located at 1835 West 4th Ave at Burrard.

And besides the numerous flower pants ready on the mar-ket, if you’re a denim enthusiast, there are also a ton of floral-print jeans available.

SUMMER FASHION 2012

BOLD NAILS ONE OF THE BIGGEST TRENDS FOR THE SEASON

Nail designs have become the new accessory, and in many cases, even more important than your purse or shoes. This summer, many are pairing their nail polish to complement their lipstick or overall makeup look.

Nail polish colors are bolder and brighter, ranging from orange and yellow, to pink and every-thing in between. Metallic are ever popular; black and even glittery hues makes your style unique.

For something really trendy, try the reverse French manicure style, or even polka dots. For those that like to keep things simple go nude, opaque or a soft neutral. Whatever you choose, Make a statement!

The Hunger Games, based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins, is a Science-Fiction action/dra-ma film. In a post-apocalyptic future, the nation of Panem holds an annual game called the Hunger Games. Each year the 12 districts within Panem are required to summit 2 bodies , a male and a female from age 12-18, through a lottery to participate in the gladi-atorial style games. “Tributes” selected are then sent to fight for their survival

both against each other in armed combat as well as to endure the harshness of the wilderness. The story revolves around Katniss Everdeen (the main protagonist) and her struggle to survive this year’s Hunger Games.

Alright, now that the introduction is over, I will begin to give my two cents on this film, and basically break it down, while trying to restrain myself from spoiling the major story; keep in mind this insight will most likely be absent from the time and budget restraint the producers had.

I would like to begin by discussing the idea behind the games itself in correlation to the way the movies portrayed it. To begin, it was heavily implicated that the wilderness survival aspect was a major part in the games, that exposer was just as lethal. I wholly believed that this movie was going to depict some major “Survivor Man” instinct, however I was wrong. There were only a couple of minor scenes that related to the terrain, and even then it failed to impact the profound theme and the viewers are left absent of the danger it [really should have]presented

On a semi-related note the main antagonist “Cato” from the superior district one (the district whose known to win majority of the games), it too was heavily implicated that he was far much superior in terms of combat and survival in general. I did not feel he was depicted all that dangerous and menacing due to the fact that he had a bunch of lackeys banned under him immediately without a much needed preliminary preview to showcase his authority; as a result throughout the movie he didn’t have a large role and basically just sat in a lawn chair (why would the organizers put lawn chairs in the arena at all???). Another reason why I questioned the game’s credibil-ity in terms of wilderness survival. To sum him up, it wasn’t really justifiable

to have an antagonist who, for the ma-jority of the “survival” game invested his time giving out commands.

Characters were something very interesting in this movie and I wished there were further explorations upon it. Because the twelve districts were isolated from each other, everyone from their respective districts had unique characteristics. These ranged from aggression, arrogance, cun-ning, passive, chair sitting and so on. It was very intriguing to observe the interactions and development from the protagonist with different charac-ters. Since the minor characters were purely static, only possessing one or two traits, it made for a smooth transi-tion to connect with the audience, evoking immediate sympathy, hatred and other sentiments.

(SPOILER ALERT): The climax was just a tad too dramatic and even a bit cheesy for me but it was sufficient enough to be believable. The only input I have upon it was the awkward realization when the audience (within the movie) were cheering for the new winners of the Hunger Games and suddenly oblivious to the fact that Cato’s body was just around the corner absolutely mutilated. I applauded them however with the ending, as it was perfectly executed for the sequel.

Plot: 9/10 Characters: 8/10 Overall: 7.5/10 I would recommend this movie for anyone who seeks a fresh plot that isn’t too critical whilst watching.

s?When did you attend LaSalle College Inter-national Vancouver and why did you decide on LCIV?2010. I had decided that I wanted to take a graphic design course immediately and LCIV had a course outline that looked appealing, plus they allowed me to attend on such short notice without a portfolio needed as well.

Where did you grow up?Born in Vancouver, BC. Raised in Ladner, BC.

What are you doing now, professionally?Right now I spend most of my time focussing on expanding my NUGZ apparel (otherwise known as Kush Nugz.) www.facebook.com/nugzapparelMainly I design the graphics for T-shirts, tank tops, hoodies, hats, toques and more to come. My style I would say is influenced by the skate/snow/surf industry, as well as a hip-hop style influence. So far there are two stores in Vancouver carrying my cloth-ing: Ignite Smoke Shop in Gastown and Exhibit Men’s Apparel on Main St. I love doing this and am very excited in every step I take to make more designs and grow as a brand.

Also I do freelance graphic design. Mainly logo and print design.

What do you do in your spare time?Play in the snow. Play in the sun. Take photos. Make art. Love music.

What are your best memories from your time at LaSalle?Best memories I’d say were making a couple of solid friends. Plus learning “the pen tool.” ha ha.

What was your favorite thing about studying at La-Salle?The classes are small so we actually get time with our teachers individually.

What inspired you to enter fashion design?I love the creative process of it. I find it so gratifying to see a garment come together exactly how I had envisioned it.

What is the most challenging thing about being a designer?Originality. Everything has been done at some point in history. The challenge is to make it relevant to today.

Where do you get your inspiration?Everywhere! For my line, Anarchia, I drew my color inspiration from the peacock, my emotional inspira-tion from a barbarian warrior and my design inspira-tion was from game of thrones.

What project are you most proud of?Definitely my final collection. Anarchia.

What has life been like after graduating?I have been traveling so pretty busy!

What are your future goals?I would love to go into costume design. I love the idea of introducing a character through their clothes; it’s such a wonderful challenge!

Do you have a favorite time period in fashion?16th century Spain. Everything was so structured and dark.

What is your favorite current fashion trend?I love all the lace!

If you could start a fashion trend for fall what would it be?Neutral colors with bright accents. I love the con-trast.
