Step Into Prep: It was wonderful to see that 90 prep students were enrolled into our Step Into Prep program. They fitted into our prep classrooms so comfortably like they'd been there all year. Next weeks Step Into Prep will be a valuable time for our parents to come into our information session in the staffroom where you will hear a guest speaker talking about preparing your children to start school. I look forward to seeing all of our 2019 prep parents there. Chinese Sister School: We are all excited to have our Changshu Sister School coming to visit our school this Sunday. Thanks to all of our parents who are hosting our students and for the wonderful planning that they have put in place to ensure that our visitors have a great time. Seussical Production: Our ticket sales for our school production are selling fast as are our t-shirts. I have had a look at some of the rehearsals for the show and I think that it might be even better than our Lennie production if that's possible. The amazing talents that our students have is so exciting to see and this is another opportunity to showcase their talents. Reading at home: Please remember that one of the greatest gifts that you can give your children is to read with them each night. The improvement in a child's reading by doing this is enormous. RESILIENCE RIGHTS & RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS

This term our Resilience Rights & Respectful Relationships (RRRRs) program is in full swing with students participating in sessions at 10am every Friday after assembly. This program aligns with our school values of 'Being a Learner, Being Respectful and Being Resilient' and is designed to promote and model respect, positive attitudes and behaviours. It teaches our children how to build healthy relationships, resilience and confidence. In Term 1 & 2 the topics of Emotional Literacy, Personal Strengths and

Positive Coping have been covered. This term the focus has moved onto social development, the first three weeks of term has seen the teaching of topic 4 - Problem Solving. At a junior level, students are learning about what a problem is, the importance of working cooperatively with others, that problems can have many solutions and how solutions can affect others positively and negatively. Meanwhile in the senior school, students look at different strategies they can use to assess the options to solve problems and role play real life problems and positive ways to solve these. We encourage parents to discuss what students are learning with regards to our RRRRs program so that these skills can be reinforced at home, and perhaps used in the home as well as at school to further build respect, resilience and positive coping strategies.

ABSENCES

REMINDER - REPORTING YOUR CHILD'S ABSENCES You may have read recently that from the end of Term 2, all Victorian government schools must contact parents/carers as soon as practicable on the same day of an unexplained student absence.

Parents and carers must notify the school of their child’s absence as soon as possible on the day of absence using the school’s preferred method (COMPASS). PLEASE NOTE:- If you are choosing the Parent Choice Option you must provide an explanation in the details/comment box. Here are some instructions on how to process an absence on Compass. At the home page you will see the following options on the left next to your child’s photo.

Profile (Attendance, Schedule, Reports) Send email to (Childs Name) teacher Add Attendance Note (Approved Absence/Late) View Academic Reports Book Parent Teacher Interviews.

Select the option with the Green + sign – Add Attendance Note. This should bring up an attendance approval box. Select the drop down arrow and choose an absence REASON Make sure you select the correct date it will default to today’s date Then Select the Start Date and time of the absence Then Select the Finish Date and time of the absence Click the Green Save button. For Example if your child was late on 25/6/18 and arrived at 9:05am Reason – Parent Choice Details/Comment – you MUST provide a description for absence. Start 25/06/2018 8:45am Finish 25/06/2018 9:05am Save Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you are having trouble putting your child's absence on Compass. Thank you for your assistance.

GRADE ONE EXPERIMENTS

In Grade One we have been learning about the sky and space. Over the past two weeks students' have had the opportunity to create cloud experiments. These experiments have helped students' understand how rain

forms.

PREPS GARDENING/LEARNING SPACE

Between the wet, windy and cold days we have had this term the Preps have been busy helping outside in our brand new garden/learning space. The idea behind this space is to give all Prep students an opportunity to explore, learn and investigate outdoors. The first stage that our wonderful little green thumbs assisted establish this week was the sensory garden, which has a range of plants to stimulate all senses. Everyone had a fantastic time learning about a variety of different plants, before getting their hands dirty digging, planting and watering. The Preps will be responsible for caring for our new area, where students have the opportunity to assist in improving and extending the sensory and play/learning space as the year progresses. I cannot wait to see what this new space develops into with the assistance of our inquisitive little legends. Mr. Harris – PH

NATIONAL TREE PLANTING DAY AT LPS

National Tree Day started in 1996 and since then more than 3.8 million people have planted 24 million trees and plants and it's still growing.

Tree planting makes a positive difference to our environment, and also

help our precious native animals and plants survive. Below are pics of

our tree planting day at LPS.

REGIONAL NETBALL

On Wednesday, the 25th of July 10 Grade Six girls travelled to Sale and competed against 4 teams in Regional netball. The first game we had a bye, but after that we played Sale. They were a really hard team with really good players. We didn’t play our best and lost by 10. The next game we played against Morwell and we won by 5. We had the height that they didn’t so we could lob it into our shooters. The 3rd game was against Lucknow and we won by 2. The height that they lacked was replaced by speed which was to our disadvantage. The last game was against Warragul. It was an even game all round but they just got us by 2. We all played really well throughout the day but sadly didn’t make it through to State. We’d like to thank Mrs McCluskey for coaching throughout the rounds, and for all the parents who came along to support us and score our games. It was a fantastic day, and well done to everyone, you all played really well. By Molly H
