two create was founded in 2002 by husband and wife team Lucy and tobie

Snowdowne. the couple met whilst studying product design at central

Saint Martins in London. the company now has a small team of dedicated

designers and a trusted network of creatives should collaboration be

required. two create is a young, trend aware, boutique consultancy, located

in Hackney, London. we are a small, dynamic agency, with the ability to react

quickly and adapt in order to meet a project’s requirements.

we are known for our intuitive design approach and pared down aesthetic,

but pride ourselves on our ability to become immersed in a client’s ideology

and brand strategies, producing innovative bespoke solutions tailored

to each brief.

waSHING & batHING.

No7 is currently the uk’s leading beauty brand, No1 in Skincare and no3 in

cosmetics. No7 is on sale in 19 International markets outside of the uk.

two create were invited to pitch on the re-design of No7 in 2008 after the

brand guardian saw our work for Givenchy win a wallpaper award earlier

that year. our pitch was successful and we were invited to attend a 3 day

brainstorming session with the brands internal team, technologists, scientists,

Pr company and advertising agency.

Following this session, we went on to produce several initial design directions

that were evaluated in consumer research (quantitative and qualitative,

Nationally & Internationally). the design directions were honed following

each round of research and developed by two create into 3-dimensional

forms (digitally and physically in the form of prototypes).

two create continued to evolve the design and were responsible for

producing the style guides and brand principles issued globally to the

artworking houses and suppliers working on No7. the process entailed

extensive research and problem solving to overcome navigational challenges

and improve application processes across 70 different pack formats.

two create worked on No7 core cosmetic and skincare lines, sun care,

washing & bathing and No7 Men (all primary and secondary packaging).

two create consulted with rFk architects on the No7 in-store design for

the re-brand and the International team on global variations of the designs.

No7 skINcare

as part of our brief with No7, we were asked to add more coherence across

sub-categories and improve navigation at the point of sale and in use. No7

skincare has 2 categories -everyday and anti-ageing. the componentry for

the categories are the same, but the price point is higher on the anti-ageing

lines. two create were tasked to deliver 2 editions of the same products that

addressed this issue and in addition improve consumer navigability.

opaque white was utilized alongside pastel coloured lids, necks and bands

to communicate everyday skincare for oily, normal and dry skin types and

metallic pewter master batch parts in addition to metallic coloured bands

used to signify the higher priced anti-ageing products, that target different

aged skin. Both the rules and colours were conceived by two create

and verified in consumer research. Products for Day and Night were also

addressed with white signifying a day product and solid colour night, a

system carried over to the outer cartons to further aid navigation at the Pos.

No7 batH & boDY

In addition to the core skincare and cosmetic lines, two create re-designed

No7’s bath & body range to be more luxurious and sensual, whilst No7 Men

has become cleaner, more professional and more masculine. In contrast to

the women’s lines, No7 Men features stronger, energising colours and

uppercase characters.

DeSIGNerS.

two create merge the boundaries between display and packaging by

producing bespoke domes designed to serve as display and primary package

for Hannah’s lavish pieces. Handmade in black ash and blown glass, the

domes were designed as a contemporary take on the Victorian display case,

to echo Hannah’s love of taxidermy and the dark nature of her work.

two create launch limited edition polished brass Frame lights at Liberty

department store’s ‘best of british’ show during the London

Design Festival 2006.

‘Frame’ is a computer bent table light that can be positioned from a

downlighter to an uplighter in 8 different configurations using the elbows

created by the bends. Frame was originally produced in polished steel by two

create and shortlisted for an oxo Peugeot Design award in 2003.

two create DeSIGN LIPStIck For couture ParISIaN braND, GIVeNcHY.

In 2006, Parfums Givenchy invited two create to pitch to design their new

signature lipstick alongside 1 other uk designer and 2 French Designers. a

lipstick should be the best seller in a couture make-up range and Givenchy’s

current offering, Lip! Lip! Lip! was under-performing.

two create was selected as the agency most capable of fulfilling the brief

based on the initial design concepts submitted. our aim was to create a

luxe objet d’art that would be a status symbol and icon of the future for

the brand. the outcome, named ‘rouge Interdit’, resembles a modern

and refined fashion accessory.

the black grosgrain ribbon references Givenchy’s couture heritage and is

used to remove the barrel from the sleeve with a feminine gesture. Givenchy

creates limited editions of the lipstick each season by updating the ribbon.

this clever initiative by two create has resulted in a design that has now

outlived all predecessors. two create’s design remains the signature lipstick

of Givenchy’s Le Make-up range and continues to perform well.

two create were responsible for the physical form of the lipstick, it’s materials

and decoration including changing the orientation of the ‘Givenchy’ logo from

horizontal to vertical for more impact (a principle now implemented by the

brand). two create also worked on the outer carton, referencing the ribbon

texture via a multi-layered embossing.

two create went on to design and manufacture a bespoke handmade box to

house 9 shades of the lipstick as a luxurious gift for 100 of Givenchy’s chosen

recipients for it’s launch in 2007 and later designed a version of the pack

for Givenchy’s sheer lipstick, ‘rouge Interdit Shine’ and ‘Phenomen’eyes’ ball

brush mascara, both following ‘rouge Interdit’ styling.

rouge Interdit won a wallpaper* award in 2008.

‘Poise’ is a counterweighted candlestick designed to balance over a

shelf or table edge. a contemporary twist on a traditional object.

Poise was originally prototyped and then auctioned by elle Decoration

Magazine for the charity Shelter and later produced as a limited edition

of 200 and exhibited in acqua di Parma’s ‘Scentsation’ show during the

Salone del Mobile in Milan 2004.

two create were asked to design the new Identity and corporate Stationery

for ‘House of the Nobleman’, a leading art curation company based

in London. House of the Nobleman transforms luxury residential and

commercial properties into art exhibitions of scale and featuring works of

historical importance.

the identity was designed to add mystery and intrigue to the brand, it

included both a monogram logo mark and a separate logotype, to give a

flexible branding system that could be applied across all communications.

the corporate stationery used differing shades of grey, with gunmetal foil and

small elements of black, for a dark and sophisticated colour palette.

For tHe LuxurY VoDka braND.

For the launch of their new macerated vodka, the world’s most luxurious

vodka brand asked two create to design a punch bowl for their new female

audience. the macerated vodka, unlike fruit flavoured vodkas is infused with

fruit vapour during the distilling process.

the unique flavour required a unique serving ritual. two create designed a

punch bowl inspired by the tea set. bespoke coupe glasses were designed to

mimic the form of a teacup and saucer.

the stainless steel punch bowl incorporates storage for the glasses, fruit and

ice with a bespoke ladle for elegant serving. the unique set was produced as

a limited edition for use in select venues across the uk.

In 2011, London Design Guide editor Max Fraser set a challenge to a cross-

section of new and established uk designers to create an artwork that

expressed what the ‘joy of Living’ meant to them – using an a4 sheet of

graph paper. an exhibition at Somerset House launched the

project and each artwork was sold in aid of Maggie’s cancer caring centres.

two create’s submission statement: “we aimed to break the formality of

the graph paper by hand drawing a rotating tile spontaneously across the

grid. this reflects our pathway through life, where a series of decisions

take you through life’s twists and turns, making up a the bigger picture

as a whole. Like the artwork, life’s beauty comes from the diversity

and uniqueness of one’s path.”

Following the successful redesign of No7 women’s ranges, the leading

beauty brand asked two create to rework their ‘For Men’ range.

No7 ‘For Men’ has taken cues from the women’s range, becoming bolder,

cleaner, and more professional. a new colour system aids navigation whilst

packs have become more functional and travel friendly. In contrast to

the women’s lines, No7 ‘For Men’ features stronger, energising

colours and uppercase characters.

Low seated armchair with single asymmetric armrest. the Surface

chair was originally conceived as part of a study on low level sitting.

Laser cut from a single sheet of aluminum, originally finished in cotton

carpet, shown here in natural 100% wool british felt. Finalist for best product

‘Furniture Design’, Design week awards 2003 and was produced by Italian

furniture super brand MDF Italia.

every creative agency needs a brand as relevant and beautiful as the ones

they create for their clients. we recently updated our own brand elements

to reflect our values, bringing it more in line with the kind of work that we

do, creating a set of corporate stationery to make sure that every bit of

communication we send is on-brand and impactful.

reSearcH LaboratorIeS.

enlighten Smiles have been a client of two create since 2004. enlighten

research Laboratories was founded by a group of cosmetic dentists

to produce breakthrough professional ‘cosmeceutical’ dental products.

although currently only available from a dentist, they have plans

to penetrate the high street.

Initially two create were employed to design and artwork pack formats

and adverts for enlighten’s growing tooth whitening collection, then in

2009 enlighten approached us to rebrand their company to appeal to

both practitioners and consumers alike. two create developed the new

identity alongside new packaging to unite their product offering and a

bold coloured logo system was introduced to aid navigation. In addition,

two create art directed film and photo shoots, as well as setting style

guides for web and other collateral.

Following on from the success of the initial ‘joy of Living’ project, which

raised a remarkable £30,000, Maggie’s and Max Fraser have teamed up with

Design junction to present a second charity initiative.

this time around, designers were invited to donate a domestic product they

had designed, be it a light, vase or mug and customise it in response to the

title ‘joy of Living’. two create customised a Mathmos airswitch tc lamp

with a one-off gold plated glass insert and entitled it ‘joy in a jar’.

two create originally designed the airswitch tc for Mathmos in 2005.
