Instructions
Eachweekyouwillreceiveanupdatedversionofthisbooklet.Itwillcontainthelessonplans,materials,proceduresandobjectivesforyourchild’smusiclessonforthefollowingweek.Generally,thesewillbe“standalone”lessonsthatteachourstudentsaboutmusictheory(notes,rests),musichistory,musicappreciation,musicperformanceandinstrumentalperformance(3rdGradeRecorder).Onoccasion,aclassmightreceivealessonsegment,whichwouldbealessontaughtovermultipleweeks.(Thatwillbeindicated)
NOTES:
• Youwillneedtoprintmaterials.Youwillneeduseofacomputerwithinternetaccess.YouwillneedyourSpringConcertLyricsheets.3rdGradewillneedtheirRecorders.

WHOLE NOTE LESSON
Objective: Students will understand what a whole note is, how many counts it gets, what it looks like, and how to create one. Materials: Students will need pencil, crayons, and a blank sheet of paper. Activity: Students will watch the videos. After each video, students understand the concept of what a whole note looks like and what it’s function and value (number of beats) is. Post videos, students will complete the work sheet. The WHOLE NOTE VIDEO #1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d353kq08XYsStudentsnowunderstandthatawholenotelookslikeacircleandthatitgets4beats.The WHOLE NOTE VIDEO #2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT2E17QqDKwStudents now understand that we count the whole note by saying AL-LI-GA-TOR. (Let your child repeat AL-LI-GA-TOR understanding that each syllable is one count. AL - LI – GA - TOR 1 - 2 - 3 - 4

THE EASTER BUNNY WHOLE NOTE WORK SHEET

(Take the Easter Bunny WHOLE NOTE Eggs our of his basket and place them one at a time into the hands of the children. Each child gets 1 whole note egg to bring home)
Directions: When you take an egg out of the basket to place in a child’s hand, cross it out. (Parents: Just have your child draw a circle above the hand of each child – that’s a whole note!) Remind them that each whole note gets 4 counts.

TIME 1-2 minutes
GOAL
• Perform like a mirror.
• Move to music.
FORMATION Stand with room to move
LESSON STEP
Play the song “Shake My Sillies Out” and demonstrate motions for students to mirror:
• shake, shake, shake my sillies out – shake out hands three times to the beat on shake
• clap, clap, clap my crazies out – clap hands three times to the beat on clap
• jump, jump, jump my jiggles out – jump three times to the beat on jump
• yawn, yawn, yawn my sleepies out – yawn and stretch three times to the beat on yawn
• wiggle my waggles away – wiggle all over

TIME 2–3 minutes
GOAL Sing a song and pat the beat.
LESSON STEPS
1. While patting a silent beat on your lap, teach the song Hot Cross Buns by rote.
Or
2. Play the song. Repeat and invite students to sing along while patting a silent beat on their laps.
Clap for each word – “HOT CROSSED BUNS” (rest)
