TESTING MEDIA: MEL BRIMFIELDPeter Scott Gallery, Lancaster UniversityFriday 10 October - Saturday 6 DecemberOpening Launch: Thursday 9 October 6.30pm

Lee Krasner, Jackson Pollock, Tony Hancock, Max Miller and Vincent Van Gogh - althoughperhaps not as you would imagine. Mel Brimfield's complex practice takes a skewed andtangled romp through the already vexed historiography of performance art, simultaneously revealing and inventing a rich history of collaboration between artists, dancers, theatre makers, political activists and comedians.

Initiated by the Art Fund and the Contemporary Art Society, Testing Media is a schemethat explores the challenges of contemporary collecting. Following a national process, two acquisition awards were made to focus on collecting performance. In partnershipwith the Harris Museum & Art Gallery, Preston, Live at LICA has looked at the work of MelBrimfield. The resulting co-acquisition features an incredible 19 works that demonstrateBrimfield’s multifarious practice.

The whole acquisition is on display for the first time to both celebrate the Testing Mediascheme and form part of Live at LICA’s programme for Lancaster University’s 50thAnniversary. The display demonstrates the significant work and legacies created throughlong-term support and partnership working.

These acquisitions were presented by the Art Fund and the Contemporary Art Society, 2014.
