On occasion, residents have community-related concerns and are uncertain
how to get them addressed. Below is a list of steps residents can use to bring about a timely and satisfactory resolution.
1. As a first choice, concerns by residents can be communicated to the management company using the community’s website, www.LifeInEstrella.com then click “Contact Us”. All concerns communicated via the website go directly to the Community Manager and are forwarded to the responsible staff member for follow-up and resolution. As an alternative to using the community website, concerns can be communicated by completing a work order available at the Community Services Office, by contacting them by phone at 623-386-1112 or by stopping in and describing the concern. The management company’s goal is to resolve every owner’s concern or problem within ten working days.
2. If the concern persists beyond ten days, residents should speak directly to the Community Manager (623-386-1112) requesting the status of their concern.
3. Residents may also choose to attend one of the EJC standing committee meetings (i.e. Budget/Finance, Landscape, Social, or Communications) to gain an understanding of community practices and bring attention to their concern. Meeting schedules can be obtained on the community website or on the calendar page of this magazine. Each meeting has an Open Forum portion to allow residents to speak. If the concern is of an Architectural Design or Covenant Enforcement nature, the Design or Covenants Review Committees hear appeals from residents if requested.
4. Residents may also contact elected Resident Board Members for their respective Association (ECA or VCA). Contact information for elected board members is available on the community website or by contacting the Community Services Office.
5. Concerns may also be presented to the Board of Directors at the monthly board meeting. Meeting schedules can be obtained on the community website. Residents can present concerns during Open Forum by filling out an Open Forum speaker form ahead of the meeting.
All resident submitted concerns are tracked and reported to the Board of Directors on a quarterly basis. This information provides the basis for prioritizing ongoing efforts to improve management’s responsiveness and resident satisfaction.
CCMC’s and Lisa Lundskow, Estrella Community Manager’s goals are to resolve every owner concern with the initial contact. This is frequently the quickest and most efficient approach for resolution of owner concerns.
Outside of normal business hours or for emergencies call 800-274-3165 to report issues.

Did You Know? Getting to Know Estrella
by CCMC Staff
DiD You Know…? During the original development of Estrella, San Gabriel was actually called the North Loop Road and San Miguel was called South Loop Road.
DiD You Know…? A free pool drain permit is required every time you drain your pool. You can receive this free permit through the City of Goodyear by following these three steps:
Step 1: Call 623-932-3010 Monday through Friday between 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to request a free pool drain permit
Step 2: A technician will come to your house to test the pool water and instruct you on where and how to legally drain your pool
Step 3: You will have 20 days to drain your pool legally
City customers should anticipate a rise in their utility bill due to the large consumption of water. To avoid year-round high sewer charges, avoid pool filling during January, February and March.
DiD You Know…? If stopped by community patrol, you may be asked to present your ID card even when you are spending time in the common areas, such as North and South Lakes. This is to ensure Estrella residents and their guests are enjoying their amenities.

proud of Our home Builders Submitted by Newland Communities
We take pride in our selection of builders and the quality homes they offer. The neighborhoods of Golf Canyon from T.W.
Lewis by David Weekley Homes and Golf Ridge from William Ryan Homes are really taking shape with new neighbors moving in all the time. Saronno by AV Homes is close to selling out with just a handful of available lots to sell, and CantaMia by AV Homes is a thriving community of nearly 350 households. Recently, we welcomed our newest builders to Estrella, Shea Homes and Gehan Homes. The following is a short overview of each of our builders, as we look forward to another great year.
av hoMes AV Homes is a nationally respected builder with a long heritage of innovative designs and unsurpassed craftsmanship. This devotion has translated into both award-winning homes and prized 55-Plus communities. Formed in 1970, AV Homes has built and closed more than 7,500 homes nationwide. In Estrella, AV homes offers homes in the 55-Plus community of CantaMia and the traditional neighborhood of Saronno.
gehan hoMesFounded in 1991 in Texas, Gehan Homes has been building and selling new, competitively-priced, high-quality, single family homes for more than 25 years. Estrella’s newest builder, Gehan Homes, recently opened models in the Palazzo neighborhood in the Montecito Community. The builder offers five single-story floor plans ranging from 2,397 – 3,192 square-feet.
shea hoMesGetting its start in 1881 as a small plumbing company in Portland, Oregon, Shea Homes has become both one of the largest civil construction contractors and one of the largest homebuilders in the country. The company’s legacy includes contributions to major projects such as the Golden Gate Bridge, the Hoover Dam and the Bay Area Rapid Transit System. Shea Homes recently rolled out a new product line, Shea3D™, in a few select communities in the West Valley. Its new models are featured in Estrella’s Inspire neighborhood in the Mountain Ranch community.
t.w. lewis by david weekley hoMesIn September of 2011, T.W. Lewis and David Weekley Homes entered into a partnership that combined two of the most well-respected names in the industry. With 37 years of joint experience, T.W. Lewis by David Weekley Homes has become the largest homebuilder in America. Homes in the Estrella neighborhood of Golf Canyon by T.W. Lewis by David Weekley Homes feature 15 distinct floor plans with sizes ranging from 2,100 – 3,800 square feet.
williaM ryan hoMesFounded in 1992, William Ryan Homes has served more than 9,000 satisfied homebuyers in four states and several metropolitan markets including Chicago, Milwaukee, Phoenix and Tampa. In Estrella, the neighborhood of Golf Ridge features four different floor plans ranging in size from 1,912 – 2,909 square feet. Homes in this neighborhood also include solar energy and home automation systems.
On March 28-29 we will be hosting our Spring Tour of Homes featuring approximately 100 homes including models, move-in ready and quick move-in homes as well as resale homes and custom homesites. Support our fantastic builders and spread the word about this community-wide open house. More information can be found on www.estrella.com.

LANDSCAPE>>>snippets
The Blooming desertBy Four Peaks Landscape Management, Inc.
It is the time of year when the weather seems to be perfect for many of us living at Estrella. Now is the time of year when we brag about the beautiful
days, spring training baseball, and the desert in bloom. Along with the blooming plants that we want to see also come unwanted plants springing up in the landscape, especially where we did not apply a pre-emergent herbicide to help control them. If you have these weeds in your landscape you have many options to rid your landscape of these unwanted plants. Please follow the directions on the label of whatever herbicide you choose to use.
Now that the threat of frost is just about over you can safely remove the frost damage from your frost sensitive plants. Inspect the plant looking for new leaves sprouting out from the branches of the plant.
You can trim off all of the damaged foliage back to the point where you are seeing the new growth. Your plants will grow back from this point.
If you have not been able to prune back your non frost sensitive landscape plants you still have time. As you have been seeing throughout the common area landscape we have been continuing our renovation pruning. Some of the species that we started with are already growing back. Don’t forget that a good rule of thumb is to prune the plants back after they bloom. A little time in the landscape now will help reduce the time you need to spend in the landscape later.
Enjoy the great weather and all of the activities throughout the valley this spring.

Getting to Know Tanja Tanner & the Fire pals Submitted by Jen Barber at WestValleyFamilies.com
Odds are your children know the “Fire Pals” crew at the Goodyear Fire Department. These entertaining folks teach fire and swimming
safety in our local schools. The ringmaster running the show is Tanja Tanner. She’s made a living of “clowning around”… quite literally.
With the Goodyear Fire Department for 16 years, Tanja is the Community Education Coordinator. What most people don’t know about her is her history as a professional clown.
Tanja explains, “The summer of 1996, APS offered a clown class to become a member of their volunteer clown troupe. I attended and enjoyed it, but after walking in several large parades I knew there had to be something else I could do with clowning. I knew I was not the birthday party type of clown.”
Tanja joined the clown and puppet troupe in Goodyear and now makes a living clowning around. “I have been given the opportunity to teach an entire generation of children fire and life safety messages in hopes they raise a safer generation.”
In 2013, Tanja received the Arizona Life Safety Educator of the Year by Arizona Fire and Burn
Educators Association. “Knowing that I possibly saved one life makes everything worth it. I especially love when I am out in the community and a parent informs me that their child made them check their smoke alarm and practice their escape plan because their child told them Fire Pal Tanja said to!”
We asked Tanja if she had any safety advice for parents. She does. “Just because you survived without a helmet, not sitting in a booster seat or never having smoke alarms in your home does not mean that your children will. Please be a parent and practice every safety measure when possible. Do not leave your children to chance, lead by example – wear a helmet and your seat belt every time.”
Tanja met her husband, Keith, at fire clown school. He is the Fire Marshal at Sun City West. Together, they’ve driven the APS 1952 fire truck in various events including the Fiesta Bowl Parade!
To learn more about Fire Pals and schedule a Fire Safety Clown to come to your school, please visit WestValleyFamilies.com and go to “People of the West Valley.”

The Secret Garden by Francis hodgson BurnettBy Estrella Book Club
The Secret Garden begins with Mary Lennox, a sickly and quite unlovable little girl, living in India with her father and mother. Her father is
a dashing army captain with the expected beautiful wife. Little Mary is taken care of by a number of native servants. An outbreak of cholera soon changes things dramatically for Mary who survives.
Mary is discovered by soldiers and after a brief sojourn with an English churchman’s family, she goes to Yorkshire to live with her maternal uncle. Things begin to change again for Mary and a great deal has to do with the secret garden she uncovers.
Hopefully, this has intrigued you to want to read the rich children’s story by Francis Hodgson Burnett that is loved by youngsters as well as adults. What is the secret garden? How did it come about? What happens to the secret garden? The answers to
those and many more questions are revealed in this timeless story first published in 1911. It has since been made into a movie.
Come join the Estrella Book Club on Wednesday, March 11 at Starpointe Residents Club at 10:00 a.m. for what promises to be an insightful discussion. If you have questions, please call Nina Adair at 623-810-3494.

CITY
Why is it that Cleveland-born actor Drew Carey often says, “Cleveland
rocks?”
It is usually very cold in northeast Ohio this time of year, but Carey’s
mantra rang true especially for Cleveland Indians baseball fans. In the early 1950s, disc jockey Alan Freed and record shop owner Leo Mintz coined the phrase “Rock’N’Roll” just a couple blocks away from where the Indians play.
During the weekend of January 24 – 25, I visited Progressive Field, the regular season home of the Cleveland Indians, for the team’s third annual Tribe Fest. The two-day event was attended by more than 8,000 die-hard Indians fans, who are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2015 spring training and regular seasons.
Despite the freezing temperatures, I found the “Tribe Vibe” to be a warm and positive one in my first trip to the team’s event. Hundreds of welcoming and enthusiastic fans of all ages stopped by Goodyear’s booth to grab a Goodyear Visitors Guide and 1,200 entered a contest to win a four-day, three-night trip to Arizona to watch Cactus League baseball at Goodyear Ballpark. As I shook hands with fans, many could not believe I was the Mayor of Goodyear. They were surprised I was willing to travel so far to generate support and interest in our city.
I was pleased at the positive comments Ohioans made about Goodyear, including how pristine our community is and how easy it is to navigate. I was happy to hear that many people planned to bring their families out for spring training, as it not only boosts tourism in our city, but helps the entire state.
To generate additional enthusiasm in fans about visiting Goodyear, I participated in various media interviews in order to tell Ohioans about all the fun and interesting things to do in our great city and region. One little girl even came up to me at Tribe Fest and told me that she saw me on television. It was very cute!
Traveling around Cleveland, I learned things about the city along Lake Erie that I never knew. One of them that stood out was learning how proud Clevelanders are about their restaurants. We ate at two of Cleveland’s popular restaurants – The Flying Fig and the Winking Lizard.
It’s hard to believe that another Cactus League season is upon us. Indians pitchers and catchers reported to Goodyear on Feb. 18.
The city of Goodyear now is looking forward to welcoming fans from near and far for another exciting season that lasts from March 3 to April 3.

Get ready to row!
The Starpointe Residents Club offers a variety of top notch cardio equipment. Rowing machines, in particular, have been around the fitness
industry for decades and are seeing resurgence in popularity. They offer a tremendous alternative to treadmills, elliptical, step mills and bikes.
We all know the importance of good cardiovascular conditioning. With so many options available, changing the machine (as well as the intensity) helps your cardio routine remain interesting, while it keeps your body working to adapt to varied stimuli.
Rowers offer the same great cardiovascular conditioning as other pieces of cardio equipment but with a slightly different approach. Rowing engages more back (core) and arm action than a typical cardio machine. Getting set up and familiar with the rower technique points may take a few minutes, but you’ll quickly be ready for a great workout.
Technique points are similar whether you are using a Concept 2 rower or a water rower. After placing your feet on the foot pads and securing them with the provided straps, reach forward and grab the handle.
A row stroke begins with a big leg extension, follows with a slight extension of your torso, and finishes with a strong pulling of the handle into your midsection. Returning the handle to the start position (called the “catch”) with efficiency requires a reversal of the stroke pull. First, extend the arms back out in front of you, lean slightly forward with your torso, then finish by bending your legs back to the start/flexed position. Focus on sitting up tall with good posture and keeping the chain in the center of the rectangle from which it originates. This may sound like a lot of small technical steps, but they will flow and feel very natural after a few minutes on the rowing machine.
Rowers are a great tool for working with intervals. Intervals are the perfect way to get short, intense bouts of exercise without having to spend a prolonged period of time on one piece of equipment. One popular interval variation is called Tabata. Tabata is 20 seconds of intense work with 10 seconds of rest. This can be repeated numerous times depending on your fitness level. Try 4-8 Tabata intervals on a rower and you will get a very effective and intense interval workout in 2-4 minutes!
