Materials:• Brown bag large enough to fit over a child’s head• Scissors• Crayons, markers, or stickers

Step 1:

Place the bag by the top of child’s head.Draw the head opening.Draw the shoulder openings on the sides of the bag.

Step 2:

Cut out the head openings and shoulder openings.

Step 3:

Decorate!

Materials:• Straw• Tape• Rocket template• Paper clip

Questions to ask:• How do you launch your rocket if you want it to go far?• How do you launch it if you want it to go high?

Test a different design:• Try launching your rocket with a paperclip attached at the top.• Try it without a paperclip.• Which design flies farther? Why do you think that is?

Blast Off!

How to build your rocket:• Cut out the rockets and fold in half• Tape the top and sides only • Insert the straw in the bottom opening • Tape the open areas next to the straw, making sure it can slide in and out easily.• Blow to launch your rocket!

Launch Targets Skills:Squares – rhyming wordsHexagons – beginning soundsTrapezoids – counting syllables

Cut out each shape along the solid and dotted lines. Practice skills by completing each puzzle. Use a set of completed puzzles as targets for launching your rocket.
