Let’s Go Out & Play!The weather outside may be

frightful, but our playground renovation is delightful! Because of so many generous people, we are delighted to report that our $75,000 campaign is complete and our three-quarter acre outdoor playground and education area will be completed by July of this year. Plans are progressing, companies are under contract, trucks are rolling in…and we are excited!

This new outdoor area will provide our students and adults the opportunity to improve their physical wellness, along with providing sensory areas, creative expression, and social skills.

THANK YOU TO each of our playground donors! You are making “HOPES AND DREAMS COME TRUE” for the students and adults of Rainbow!

T he Rainbow Center school program has again experienced an enthusiastic and positive new year. This is our 39th school

year of serving children and adults with special educational and behavioral needs. Originally, we served only students in our LOCAL Blue Springs and Independence communities, but the growing

need has increased our service area to extend to 18 public school districts all over Jackson County and 6 other surrounding Counties.

It is so exciting and rewarding to hear the stories of amazing changes that occur soon after a new student becomes assimilated into our positive, gentle programming environment. Our experienced and highly trained teachers and behavior support team work diligently to help facilitate progress and growth.

The Rainbow Options Adult Day Habilitation Program is growing steadily and we are pleased to have a record number of clients with 60 now participating. Having choices for community participation, developing and maintaining personal skills and volunteering are a few of the ways that our programming provides great opportunities for fun and meaningful experiences each week.

Volunteers make all the difference! Thank you, Jim Morgan, for stepping forward with great enthusiasm to be our Chairman of the Board of Directors! He is joined by a dynamic leadership team of officers: Lyndon Davis, Vice Chair, Kelvin Fisher, Treasurer and J’Nan Kimak Erker, our Secretary.

We have five additional NEW board members that bring great experience and various areas of expertise to our Board. Ron Eiman, brings great knowledge in the world of developmental disabilities with his extensive board experience. Trisha Kennedy is a long time, devoted friend of Rainbow Center. She has such youthful energy and vast community connections as well as her professional business skills. Suzie Apel, Brenda Alfred and Pam Carpenter each bring varying areas of expertise (Marketing, Communications and Education) that round out our full board of seventeen members. We are so pleased to have each one of them share their time and talents with us at Rainbow!
