B. Learning Material:

1) Hydrocarbon Compound ( Hydrocarbon Compound)

Hydrocarbon compounds consisting of carbon and hydrogen. Part of

chemistry that addresses the chemistry of carbon compounds called

hydrocarbons. First hydrocarbon is called hydrocarbon chemistry,

because the compounds can be obtained only from the living body and

can’t be synthesized in the factory. However, since Friedrich Wohler in

1928 successed to synthesize urea (a compound that found in urine) from

an in hydrocarbon compound, ammonium cyanates by heating that

ammonium cyanates ( NH4OCN).

Once the success of Wohler is known, many are other scholars who are

trying to make carbon compounds from in hydrocarbon compounds.

Gradually, the theory about the power of life is lost and people just use

the hydrocarbon chemistry as a name without suitable it to the real sense.

2) Showing Carbon and Hydrogen Element in Hydrocarbon Compound

(Hydrocarbon Compound).

Hydrocarbon is a compound consisting of carbon (C) and elemental hydrogen

(H). The whole hydrocarbons having carbon chain and hydrogen atoms are

bonded to the chain. The existence of the elements carbon, hydrogen, and

oxygen in carbon compounds can be demonstrated by heating the carbon

compounds. The existence of the elements carbon and hydrogen in sample of

hydrocarbon compound also be addressed with a simple experiment, namely the

combustion testing. Combustion of hydrocarbon samples will change the C into

CO2 and H into H2O. CO2 gas because it can turbid the limewater, while water

can identified with cobalt paper because the water change color cobalt paper

from blue to pink. The presence of oxygen element in organic sample usually not

show in specifically, but can know from the dispute between mass of sample

with amount mass of carbon, hydrogen and the others.
