It also has a long and colourful history of producing cricketing greats. Don Bradman was just one of many sports people who made their names at club level while playing at Hurstville Oval and then moving on to achieve national and international acclaim. The Oval also hosts athletics and numerous other sports including soccer, cycling (velodrome) and Rugby League. You can let your dog run free in one of two leash-free areas in Hurstville. They are at: Lower Gannons Park, Peakhurst – enter from Forest Road and walk to the lower end of the park Extension of Riverwood Park, western end of Coleridge St Riverwood. This area is fully fenced. As well as all the many recreational parks in the local government area, you can also enjoy the many walkways and boardwalks along the foreshore of the Georges River. Hurstville City Council has developed a network of walkways which provide for a pleasant stroll along the waterfront. Walkways are located on Salt Pan Creek, Boggywell Creek, Jewfish Bay (Oatley Park) and Lime Kiln Bay. Lorraine St PeakhurstHurstville Golf Course is a favourite among golfers. Ithas 18 holes with a great variety of gentle rolling hills,plenty of natural hazards and smooth, quick greens.

There is a practice putting green and full practice fairway.

Ken Rosewall Tennis Centre - Roberts Avenue PeakhurstVanessa Street Tennis Courts Beverly HillsThe Council provides two tennis complexes availablefor events or just for fun. At the Ken Rosewall TennisCentre, Roberts Ave Peakhurst, there are eight synthetic grass courts, with a BBQ, clubhouse withkitchen, toilets and shower facilities, shelter sheds anda children’s playground.

At Vanessa Street Beverly Hills there are two syntheticgrass courts with shelter sheds.

The courts are open from 8am to 10pm daily. Hire costsvary. Contact the Court Managers for more details on9580 4204.

Corner of King Georges Road and Forest RoadPenshurstMajor improvements to the Leisure Centre have recently been completed, the Centre now being one ofthe best sporting facilities in the region.

Facilities include an indoor, eight-lane 25m lap pool,leisure pool with fountains and program pool, indoorand outdoor water slide, café, large gymnasium andaerobics room, spas, sauna and steam room, alongwith greatly expanded child care facilities.

The Centre is open from Monday to Friday 6am to 9pm,and Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 6amto 8pm.

King Georges Road PenshurstNamed after local and international soccer hero Johnny Warren, the indoor sports centre, which forms part of Hurstville Aquatic Leisure Centre, is large enough to stage three basketball games at the same time.

It is a modern state-of-the-art facility that can play host to many sports including basketball, karate, kung-fu, indoor soccer, aerobics, badminton,netball, indoor touch football, gymnastics and baton twirling.

The multi-purpose stadium can also be used for largecommunity events.

Oatley Park is one of southern Sydney’s best-keptsecrets. It is easily the largest recreational area in ourcity, a 45-hectare park that juts out into the GeorgesRiver.

It boasts trees, shrubs and native flowers, walkingtracks, a tidal pool and prolific bird life.

The Oatley Park Castle is a popular venue for eventsand picnics, and the steam roller park is always popularwith the kids, as is the river beach and numerous walking tracks and playing fields.
