SUBJECT: Uniforms

June 19, 2020

I am aware that there are departments that do not supply regular duty uniforms to their new officers until after ILEA graduation or after further orientation. I respect those policies. However, in regard to an important training concern, 1 would like to ask for your assistance in providing a uniform or an alternative uniform for training purposes.

Our Physical Tactics Instructors have incorporated a portion of ow· physical tactics instruction that calls for officers to wear their department uniform and equipment. As you know, performing physical tactics while wearing such items and equipment is significantly different than wearing sweat gear only. With students in full uniform and equipment, we can better point out relevant advantages and disadvantages to officer survival. Though it is only a small portion of their physical tactics training, we believe it to be a very important portion of their training.

To that end, I am asking you to consider letting them bring a uniform or an "alternative uniform" along with duty leather or nylon belt, holster, magazine pouch, handcuffs and handcuff case for this portion of their training.
