HNLU National Entrance Test (N.E.T.) 2006 to be held on 28.05.2006

Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), a national institution in the field of Legal Education and Research, is a Residential University under Hidayatullah National University of Law, Chhattisgarh Act 2003 (No. 10 of 2003). The University has been recognized u/s. 2(f) & 12B of the UGC Act, 1956. Applications are invited for admission to B.A. LL.B. (Hons.), LL.M. and Ph.D.(Law) Programme for academic year 2006-2007.

FIVE YEAR B.A. LL.B. (Hons.) PROGRAMME ELIGIBILITY: Applicant should have passed Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2 system) or equivalent Examination with not less than 50% of marks in aggregate before 1st July, 2006 (those appearing for the examination in March/April, 2006 can also apply). The candidate must secure atleast 50% of the total marks in the N.E.T. AGE: Applicant must be below 20 years (SC/ST candidates below 22 years) as on July 1, 2006. TOTAL SEATS & RESERVATION: There are only 80 seats, out of which 40 seats are reserved for the domicile candidates of Chhattisgarh and 40 seats for the candidates of other States. All

admissions will be strictly on merit basis through the National Entrance Test (N.E.T.) to be held

The forms would be made available between 5 PM to 7 PM till Thursday 8 th June 2006 at Law Centre I, Faculty of Law, Maurice Nagar, Delhi 7.

The duly filled application must be submitted between 10 to 1 PM on working days or may be sent by registered post to Convenor, Admission Committee, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi, Delhi-110 007 so as to reach latest by 5:00 P.M. on 9 June, 2006.

Common Law Entrance Test (Law CET) from Next Year All the seven law universities in the country, including National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore, have decided to hold a common entrance test (CET) to reduce exam-related stress among students. The decision was taken in response to a public interest litigation filed by Varun Bhagat, a Class 12 student, who knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court saying it was difficult for him to prepare for multiple law entrance tests along with the board exams. At a meeting convened earlier this month, directors of all seven law universities at Bangalore, Bhopal, Raipur, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Gandhinagar and Kolkata told the HRD ministry that they are ready to hold CET from next year. A meeting will be convened later this month to work out the modalities like format of the test, reservations and revenue sharing. The SC has given three weeks to the ministry to come out with a plan. "Students currently have to apply individually to all law universities and undergo stress preparing for separate entrance tests. A common entrance test will help institutes to save resources and money spent on conducting the test, while students will benefit by spending on a single application. All the institutes will meet again to decide on how to conduct the test and what will be the revenue-sharing model," NLSIU director Jayagovind told TOI. Jayagovind said university-affiliated law colleges and unaided institutes would be free to admit students based on the CET. The ministry has sought assistance from experts like CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly, AIEEE chairman P V Sharma and

director of the Indian Law Institute K N Chandrashekaran Pillai to go ahead with the preparation. Unlike IITs and IIMs, which hold common entrance tests to fill up their seats, the seven national law universities have been established under the state Acts and hence will need to follow the reservation policy of the respective state governments. "In the course of the discussion we were given to understand that autonomy and the reservation policy would not be affected," R K S Gautam, registrar, National Law Institute University, Bhopal, said. Some universities are also said to have requested the ministry to defer the decision as they have already started preparations to hold individual entrance tests for 2007. The ministry has reportedly turned down the request and offered assistance to go ahead with the proposal. Source : Times of India
