LAND ART

Landscape Architect: Sarah Meouche (Myself)

Concept: Stiching the ground since this place is falling appart and its location being hidden on the side of the road people tend to throw undesired objects there and weak/fallen people of the society seek this place to hide and do drugs. The concep-tual idea of the installation can go beyond the idea of literally stiching the ground since it is cracked, it can be interperated in way that these cracked peo-ple of the society that seek these cracked places can be stiched and restored. The interpretation of the installation is meant to be very subjective and open.

Materials Used: Red floss strips

Location: Beirut, Ashrafiyeh

STREET-ESCAPE: BEIRUT EAST-WEST AXIS (FYP) Landscape Architect: Sarah Meouche (Myself)

Concept: To revitalize the whole street that starts as Saeb Salam boulevard and finishes as Pierre Jemayel street and change it into an linear park, an avenue in specific where it would attract many people from Beirut since it is considered as the backbone of Beirut city and it connects the city from one end to the other. In this scale, the street is studied and planned together with its periphery and further with it surroundings, respecting the historical urban patterns but giving it new design ideas in dealing with contemporary problems. The design focuses on one stretch of Saeb Salam Boulevard , transforming the parking spaces be-tween buildings into available green open spaces for people taking into consideration the context..Street photography was used as a design tool in the design phase.

Location: Beirut, Saeb Salam Boulevard, Abdallah Yafi Street and Pierre Jmayel streetv

People’s History

They come and go out of the harbor to deliver shipments to different places. But at any given time there are many truck drivers resting around the port area. They live in their cars and rest in the open areas of the harbor.

Truck Drivers

settled after burj hammoud became an occupied Armenian area. There are two kinds of people big boat owners and workers. The boat owners do not live in the fishermen village but the workers do.

Fishermen Different Families were living in the area before the war but were forced to move away during the war so they moved to different places and established jobs there but they came back after the war. Now the families live in one area & their income from another.

FARMER’S MARKET

Landscape Architects: Sarah Meouche (Myself) and Mahmoud Bou Kanaan

Concept: The existing linear shape of the corniche inspired the design approach of the market, it follows the concept of being tight and narrow at certain points then it opens up and creates a space that has a po-tential to host different activities. The layout of the market follows the notion of a loop, which gives equal importance to all the programs in the market and it gives the feel of continuity and dynamics and it allows the visitor to go through the whole market and be engaged with all the available activities.
