Mother’s Day Gift – A note will be coming home

with your child next week.

SECRETARY – WE NEED YOU, well, we need a

secretary. The role would take up less than half

an hour a week, unless you would like to be more

involved with the group.

Look out for “The Circus is coming to Lancing

Prep Hove” at the end of March. Tickets will be

available soon.

World Book Day 2019

In celebration of World Book Day on Thursday 7

March, we would like all children from Nursery to

Year 5 to come to school dressed as their

favourite character - from a book they have read.

Dressing up is fun, but it is very important that we

focus on the books in the hope that we will

encourage our children to be adventurous in their

reading choices and learn from each other. To

that end, all children should bring in their favourite

book from home to share with the class. The

teachers will do the same!

Children in Year 6 have Bikeability next week, so

should come into school in their PE kit as normal

all week.

Children in Year 7 & 8 have a trip to Lancing

College on this day, to see a musical theatre

production of Legally Blonde. Therefore, we ask

that they come to school dressed in their

school uniform. They should, however, come

prepared to talk about their favourite character

from a novel which they have read recently.

Annie Rehearsals - 5 March

This week we will be rehearsing the scene 1, 2 & 3.

We therefore need the following students:

Any students who would like a copy of the backing

music should bring in a blank CD or pen drive to Mrs

Goodson.

Phil from Jaws and Claws came to visit with a wide range of animals for the children to see and touch. Sadly the snake was in the process of shedding his skin which makes him grumpy when handled so he wasn’t allowed to visit. However, the children did meet Jenny the hissing cockroach, Dave the Giant African Land Snail, Eddie,

a female bearded dragon who liked to eat locusts, Tina, a tenrec from Madagascar who looks like a tiny hedgehog but is actually a member of the elephant family and Graham, a tiger salamander, who can regrow his limbs if they get damaged. Buster, a tree frog, climbed up the side of the cupboard and sat on Esmee’s head and the children loved

Winnie and Lola, the two large tortoises. The children were also lucky enough to meet Lucy the scorpion who stayed in her box while we looked at her!

Some of the children were a little hesitant to touch the animals at first but quickly gained confidence. The children impressed Phil with their knowledge of reptiles.

LPW Pupils shineat Worthing Arts & Music Festival

Year 3 investigate mummificationHistorians from Horsham Museum visited Year 3 to talk about some of the ancient artefacts in the museum. These included jewellery and other items, which the ancient Egyptians believed would have been taken into the afterlife by those who were buried. They also explained the mummification process and the children had the chance to extract ‘organs’ from a doll and put them into canopic jars. They then bandaged the mummy and placed it into its sarcophagus. It was a great experience and complemented our Ancient Egypt topic brilliantly.

Year 4 takeon a Maths Challenge

On Thursday, John, Martha, Imogen and Oliver from Year 4 went to Christ’s Hospital for a Maths Challenge.

They had a great afternoon completing mathematical challenges using dice, tangrams, dominoes and number riddles.

With 38 schools represented, they didn’t make the top 3 places but they still performed brilliantly; persevering and collaborating through some extremely challenging problems.

 

Our pupils have worked very hard with our visiting Drama teacher, Mrs Howard, to prepare for this year’s competition.

Well done to Izzy B who was placed first in the Solo Verse 10 Years category and third in the Prepared Prose Reading category, which puts her second overall in her age group and qualifies her for the finals day on 3 March. We wish Izzy all the very best of luck!

In the Solo Verse 5 Years competition, Vivian B took first place, with Olivia H and William B in joint third place.

Grace Craig and Piper S were thrilled to be placed first in the Improvision Duologue 12 Years competition. Third place was gained by Amelie K-M and Amelia G.

Grace T took third place in the Speaking Your Own Poem 11 Years and Under.

Well done to everyone who entered; they all acquitted themselves well and were a credit to the school. We are so proud of them all.

Our swimmers took part in the recent IAPS competition and special con-gratulations go to Sophia B who competed in her first county swimming gala and achieved two PBs in the 200m freestyle and 100m backstroke. She was placed 5th and 4th respectively in her age group.
