What a fabulous Tuesday evening was enjoyed by the families from across all grades, who came together for the Dana St Picnic and Games Night!

Jenga, Celebrity Head, Snap, Card Mountain, along with International games Chauka Bara (India) and Congkak

(Malaysia), dominated the tables in the Spielvogel Centre. Outside, the energies were high as students played short Tennis, outdoor Noughts and Crosses, Ring the Bull and a range of other games.

More than the activities, it was great for families to meet and get to know each other. Food was shared and new

friendships formed by students and their parents alike. These nights are so special to our Dana Street Community. We encourage all our families to participate, enjoy and benefit from our community events each term.

Be sure to keep an eye out for our Family Fun Run Event in Term 2; another great chance for our community to come

together.

Prep enrolments

Do you have a child currently attending four-year-old kinder who will be coming to school next year? We have

already had many enquiries for prep 2019 and are currently taking enrolments. If you know of anyone who is

interested in enrolling their child for prep next year, please encourage them to contact the school for a tour.

Reading and Writing at Home

Parents often ask about ways to encourage their

child to read and write at home. We know that

increased time reading and writing can promote

success in these areas. We also know that it’s

important for families to spend time together, and

for children to see that Mum or Dad also reads and writes regularly for a real purpose. Here

are some things that you might like to do together:

Download podcasts to listen and discuss

Make and write greeting cards

Collect and experiment with recipes to create a personal cookbook

Use text messages and emails to communicate with family and friends

Join or create a blog and make contributions together

Solve crosswords, word puzzles and brain teasers together

Read a book series together

Konnichiwa! In Japanese we have been using our knowledge of greetings to create a puppet show.

The students have been working on the greetings

Ohayou gozimasu, konnichiwa, konban wa, arigatou, arigatou gozaimasu, sayonara, sumimasen, kudasai

and incorporating these with the phrases

O namae wa nan desu ka (What is your name?)

Nan sai desu ka (How old are you?)

Doko ni sunde imasu ka (Where do you live?)

O genki desu ka (How are you?)
