• Researchers (including conservationist) today are

using ICTs frequently to gather information.

•The logistics of printing and Distributing

questionnaires, for example, can be time and resource

intensive.

• Smartphone's and tablets are now used frequently.

Introduction

•Data collected can be stored and retrieved almost

anytime and anywhere.

•Reduction of human labour in entering and collation of

data.

•Cost reduction in terms of printing members data

form(s)

•Data loss is minimal while error is kept at bay.

Comparism between digital and manual based data collection

PAPER-BASED

long time-lags to usable data

data need to be eventually

digitized for analysis

limited data types

little, if any, supervision of data

collectors

may add unnecessary data-

management complexities, which

in turn may result in many

inaccuracies

ELECTRONIC/DIGITAL

fairly easy to develop & use

fairly low barriers to mobile

collection

expedites research (data already

digitized)

potential to decrease research

costs, particularly in the long run

expands data types that can be

Collected

Error reduced to minimum

Many considerations, including research question(s), study size, study

complexity, data types, cost and timeline
