Swim Goes to State By: Teresa Rangel/ls

The KHS Swim Team didn’t win any trophies, but it

was a triumph for the Kingfisher High School Swim Team none-

the-less.

Kingfisher girls placed 22nd and boys placed 26th at the

meet hosted at the Jenks Aquatic Center last Saturday. With the

underclassmen swimming their best times of the year, Coach

York couldn’t help but feel more than delighted commented how

the young team will be strong competitors for the coming seasons.

The girls’ 400 freestyle relay team got to qualify for “B”

finals, according to Kayla Coffman, placing 14th place in Friday’s

preliminaries. Lacey Wilzeck (Senior), Kayla Coffman (Junior),

Maitland Pickle (Freshman), and Jaryn Frey (Senior) swam at a

record time of 4:30.50. They later dropped time on Saturday with

a new record of 4:29.83 placing them newly at 13th place.

Rachael Clayton joined Pickle, Frey, and Wilczek in the

200 free relay placing 15th place in the “B” finals with 2:02.01.

On Saturday, they improved their record time to 1:50.03 placing

themselves in 14th place.

Frey qualified as well for “B” finals in the 200 free scor-

ing 13th after the preliminaries with 2:17.00 and eventually scor-

ing 2:17.33 in the finals dropping her one spot into 14th place

overall.

The boys team, composed of Jeremy Wilcox, Baylor

Graves, Sam Walter, and Colton York, swam in the freestyle relay

making it through the preliminary round to “B” finals with a rec-

ord of 1:44.09 dropping time to 1:42.59 placing them in 13th

place.

In the end, Altus dominated the Class 5a boys’ meet

with 306 points on their team. Fort Gibson took second with

223.5 points on their team. Stillwater took the girls state title with

249.5 points, while Carl Albert’s team was second with 196.

Senior Profile: Andrea Jimenez By: Alma Padilla/ls

Let me introduce you to one of our sweet senior girls

that is graduating this year, Andrea! Pedo and Cande Jimenez

were blessed with their first child, Andrea Jimenez, on May 9,

1998 in the beautiful town of Acatic, Jalisco Mexico.

Andrea is one of four children. Maria 16, Brenda 14,

and Camila 5, are all her younger siblings.

Andrea is a animal lover. Her favorite type of animal is

a dog. She has two of her own, Oso (Bear), a big brown dog with

no tail and Malquerido, a pitbull mix. Her school clubs and or-

ganizations are NHS and Spanish Club. Her favorite school sub-

ject is Art class. Andrea loves all her teachers and thinks they are

all cool. Of Andrea, Mr. Kaya says, “she’s a very good writer

and I wish she had joined newspaper years ago, since we can use

all the good writers we can find.”

Her plans for the future are to go to college. She plans

to go to NOC for basics, and become a RN. In her spare time she

likes watching scary movies, listening to music, or watching her

favorite TV shows.

Her two favorite TV shows are Quien Es quien and

East Los High. Andrea enjoys listening to Bachata, Banda, and

Duranguense. She listens to La Arrolladora, Banda MS more

than anything.

You will always see Andrea smiling and having a good

time around school with her friends, Alma P, Blanca, Briana,

and Alma A. She looks forward to graduating with her friends

and seeing what the future brings her.

The things she will most miss about KHS is all the

memories she has made with her classmates. Her advice to un-

derclassmen is “Do NOT wait until last minute to do things” and

her words to her fellow seniors is “It’s been fun!”

Hi Siri By: Andrea Jimenez/ss

Siri, the voice of Apple’s iPhone, is everywhere.

On your iPhone, Apple TV, practically on every Apple related device. Well now she’s going to be on the Mac. Yup, she’s going to

be on our computers. 9to5Mac says the launch to this new update will come in the fall of 2016. This is pretty exciting news for some peo-

ple.

Now the question is how is this going to work? Apparently, Siri will be located in the menu bar and will use voice commands to

function just like on all other devices. It will still use those rainbow color waves to indicate she is listening to your precious voice.

Gizmodo says Siri will take up no space at all and a simple “Hey Siri” will be enough to get her started. I’m not sure if that is cool

or creepy. I mean, wow, a talking computer. Cool and creepy, right? Anyhow, Siri proves once more that she will always be here for us.

She’s like an invisible BFF who is always willing to listen and help you out, even if she doesn’t want to.

Have a math problem? Just ask Siri. Is your boyfriend cheating on you? Just tell Siri. Siri will forever have your back.

Spotlight Review Opinion by: Martin Padilla/ss

When Birdman (or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) won

best picture at the Oscars last year, I was really surprised considering it

was a little more overrated than they made it out to be. I decided to

watch all of the Oscar nominated films of this year before it aired and I

was really pleased with one in particular, Spotlight.

That’s right; another movie starring an award winning cast,

except this one really shows they are. Spotlight stars Liev Schreiber,

Mark Ruffalo, Rachel McAdams, John Slattery, and the Birdman him-

self, Micheal Keaton. From the moment this movie started I instantly

got enveloped by how well the actors told the story. Mark Ruffalo

definitely surprised me; he starred in another newsroom movie by the

name of Zodiac but ultimately defined the character he was playing in

Spotlight

If you don’t know anything about this movie at all you should

know that it’s definitely not for everyone. There’s no action and most

of the film is filled with just dramatic sequences of the actors arguing.

The plot of the film focuses on Live Schrieber’s character, Baron,

working as an editor for a newspaper titled “Spotlight”.

He assigns his team of reporters to investigate the accusations of

a priest that supposedly molested a number of children only to find out

that there was more than they were led to believe. The film follows all of the reporters trying to get their hands on sealed documents, inter-

viewing victims of the case, and even uncovering more than they ever thought they would.

Another thing I was surprised at was hearing that Matt Damon actually was considered for the role of Mike Resendes, which ended

up actually going to Ruffalo. Can you imagine Matt Damon being nominated for not one, but two Oscars? Which, by the way, he totally

stole the nomination that belonged to Johnny Depp in Black Mass. Either way, Ruffalo definitely did way more than expected with this role.

Stanley Tucci is also in this film, and he's not terrible! Surprising, right? Considering how ridiculous he looked with that purple wig

and weird outfits in the Hunger Games franchise, he did spectacular. His scenes were so well done with such a dramatic touch that it was

believable. Watching the film I didn’t see Stanley; I saw the attorney that he was portraying.

The ending of this film is possibly the one of the best endings I have seen in all of 2015 (and yes, that includes Star Wars).

Now I won’t say anything about the ending other than the fact that it was so well done. It gave me a sense of closure when I was

finished watching it and I was more than happy with what I watched. Not many movies can deliver that kind of ending.

Like I mentioned previously, some people may find this movie to be boring, but I thought it was great which is why I give it a 9/10.

Top 8 “Kyary Pamyu Pamyu” Music Videos Opinion By: Clairanda Porter/ss

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is a very popular J-Pop artist. J-Pop is Japanese Pop, for those

who do not know. I very much enjoy KPP’s (Kyary Pamyu Pamyu) kawaii (cute) music.

It is so full of life and energy that it makes you happy and want to dance around till the

world spins around you.

8. CANDY CANDY has taken number eight on this lively list not only for its fun

loving name, but also for the pink colors and great costumes. To be honest, the main

reason this music video made it onto my favorites is the plain reason that there is a noise

making onion in the video that sings with Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.

7. I chose Yumeno Hajima Ring Ring as number seven because the song is nice

and soft as well as the music video that goes with it. Faded colors, fun, cuties props,

and the appearance of the other costumes from her prior music videos make up this

lovely piece.

6. Kira Kira Killer takes number six mostly because the whole video, except Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, is animated. Bright colors and pat-

terns flowing across the screen as your eyes dart back and forth between KPP and the animation behind her.

5. The list goes on. The next music video on this list is Mottai-Nightland. Mottai-Nightland is one of her more random music videos.

Ghost head dancers and pooping strawberries poop pink as she is dressed as a dog are just a few of the things that go on in this music video.

4. Crazy Party Night-Pumpkins Strike Back- is number four on my list of overly bright music videos from the lovely Kyary Pamyu

Pamyu. From neon zombies to inception of the complete video, this music video is obviously for Halloween but I love all the costumes and

dancing. So, I put it in this crazy list.

3. As this randomly amazing KPP music video list is coming to a close, I will present you with number 3, Fashion Monster. This next

music video is one of my personal favorites plainly because of the outfits and costumes worn by KPP and the dancers. Fashion Monster has

some of the best dance moves in my personal perspective.

2. Mondia Girl steals second place for the apparent reason that this music video was a big step in a new direction for KPP. Mondia Girl

has a new feel, from the costumes to the words being sung. The song itself is very catchy.

1. I went back to the begging. The start; the first time I set my brown eyes upon the kawaii, bright, fun loving Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s

PONPONPON. If you haven’t seen this music video, then you must live under the same rock as Patrick Star. All the bright colors mixed

with the skulls and eyeballs just make this music video pull out my true inner self.

Hate Towards

People for Being

“Different” Opinion by: Lisa Baxter/ls

Ok everyone, people who are

bi, gay, Trans, or demi sexual are born

this way. It’s usually not a choice. We

are born to be attracted to either the op-

posite, the same sex, or even their sexual

orientation. I have had it with people

bullying people who are born to be at-

tracted or identifying themselves as an-

other sex.

Take Francis Lapointe as an

example. He was born male, but identi-

fied as female. He was bullied because

of that fact and ended up committing

suicide on November 25th, 2013. People

don’t realize how depressed a person

can get by being bullied for stupid stuff

like this.

It’s not anybody’s choice to

choose who somebody is attracted to,

because it’s how they were born. If

“God” made everything that means he

made them to be that way.

Soccer Returning By: Logan Hightower/ss

With the Kingfisher scrimmages last Tuesday starting off pretty

good, (for the boys, as the girl’s scrimmages got canceled) they are getting

prepped for this Friday’s game! They played Bethany for the first game with

a not-so-good start as they lost 6-1 with Kris Parker having the only goal at

the end of the game. At halftime they weren’t doing so well, losing 4-0, but

starting to get better. It was also hard for the players as it was in the 30’s

with very cold rain.

The second game, against the Mid-West City Bombers, they

played a lot better! Still the boys were freezing, but they played a lot better

with more communication and better passing. They got a lot more shots on

them. They only lost 0-1, but had a lot of shots against them. The bombers

got a lucky shot that had a small chance

as it hit the crossbar, bounced on the

ground, and rolled in. The boys are still

hyped up, and ready to start off this

season with a bang this Friday against

Harding Charter.

This Friday, March 4th, King-

fisher will be playing Harding Charter

at the High School Field. The girls start

at 5 and boys start at 7. Make sure to be

there to support the Jackets!

League of Legends By: Logan Hightower/ss

League of Legends is a skill based strategy game

that is played in a “arena” as champions. You are an unseen

“summoner.” You play against other players in a 5v5 as you

put your skills to the test. You can either play ranked or

unranked, in which you build your way up to gain ip (in

game points). Or you can buy rp (riot points) for irl money,

to buy champions, skins, and a lot more.

Riot games created this game hoping to bring play-

ers a new experience to strategy games. League of Legends

is a world-wide game. People have different tactics, different

play styles, and teamwork.

The target of the came is to get kills on other play-

ers, destroying towers, go get to the enemy’s nexus (their

main base), and destroy it to win. You start at level one as

you try and get kills, cs, (kill minions), and take objectives.

If you get to the late game (around 30-45 minutes) you can

reach the max level, 18. There are over 100 champions to

pick from, as each champion counters another.

There are many roles played in the map. There is a

top laner, a jungler, a mid laner, 2 bot lane, the Adc (Attack

damage carry), and support.

There are items that you can get to boost things in

game. There are many types of items that you can build in

the game to be better and put yourself over the enemy. There

are attack damage items, ability power items, armor, magic

resist, and many more.

There are multiple types of champions, like the

Assassins, Mages, Tanks, and Fighters. As you play, you try

and get coins, which are the currency on there, and build

your way up to try and poke your enemy down until you

have enough damage to kill the target.

There is a ranking system that you can use. It starts

with Bronze, then Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and the

last, where the Pro Players that are on. As you go through the

ranks the players get more and more skilled, and as you get

to the final ranks it gets insanely hard, because you have to

pick the right things and nearly make no mistakes.

KHS Vocal at Districts By: Lisa Baxter/ls

On February 23, 2016 vocal went to Alva to go to Districts. At

Districts vocal practiced for about 3 minutes when they got there. Then we

headed to the stage and sang “Now oh Now our Needs Must Pray,” then

about 4 minutes later vocal sang “Windy nights.”

After that we walked off the stage and headed to do sight singing.

The sight singing was really hard for some, because we hadn’t gotten to that

difficulty yet. They got a 1 on the two songs and a 3 on the sight singing.

We got there a few minutes before we had to start and had to change on the

bus about 10 minutes away from Alva.

We ate in Alva at a pizza place. Most had the buffett cause it was

really cheap. Then we headed to Enid for bowling. There were three groups

of bowlers. Bowling finished out the day for Kingfisher High School Vocal.

Horrible Fan Fiction Opinion by: Robert Haynes/ss

I bet any of you reading this have heard of fan fiction. Basically, fan fiction is where you are a fan of something and you make a

story out of it. For example, if you really like Star Wars you'd make up a story about Star Wars. However, if you want you can make up

your characters or use the movie characters. The same rules apply to almost any other story. It sounds too good to be true, right? Yes, it is to

find good fan fiction. You have to traverse a sea of garbage. I’m dead serious. The majority of fan fiction is written by thirteen year old

girls. Usually, the kind that sits alone and nobody wants to talk to, because they start ranting about something stupid.

I know that you are all thinking I’m stereotyping, but that’s not true. I’ve decided to give you some in order from decent to terri-

ble.

5. Ren’s horrible death

4. Death of Cody

3. Salivation

2. Sonichu

1. Blood Raining Night

Ugh, the cringe is too much. I dare any of you reading this to Google Blood Raining Night. It is the worst, other than Sonichu.

Sonichu is one of the worst fanfics ever. So now that you have a list of some horrible fan fiction. You more than likely are making up your

own opinions and assumptions, but since you’ll want to know what a good fan fiction is like, it’s something that hasn’t been written by a

thirteen year.

Seriously, bad writing and grammar errors aside, the main problem that plagues most fanfics is a certain archetype called a mary

sue. If you don't know what a mary sue is it is basically a female character that has no flaws and the only people that aren’t obsessed with

her are the villains. It isn’t that great writing a character that has no flaws whatsoever. I mean, wow, that takes some talent. Not only that,

but if characters from other media are in the story they are completely out of character. Ugh, I can’t go into much depth about why a majori-

ty of fan fiction is horrible. Ill have to show you in my upcoming Blood Raining Night review.

Haunted School in Concho? Opinion by: Janelle Hawk/ss

In Concho, where lucky star is located, you can drive

back where the buildings are and see an old school where the

Native Americans could go. A long time ago there was a fire

during school that burned almost everything up except the build-

ings themselves.

Before the tribe moved into one of the buildings, peo-

ple used to go back there and roam around in the buildings.

Sometimes people saw paranormal activity. It’s really scary if

you go there at night time. Our Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes are

now trying to make the buildings into something useful.

There was once a dance going on and it was dark so my

cousins and I went back there for a walk. When we went back

there we started playing hide and go seek. My cousin and I were

partners just incase somebody got lost.

We went into the far left building to hide. Everything

was quiet until we started to hear a baby cry. We didn’t know

what it was so we thought it was one of our other cousins play-

ing a joke on us. It then stopped and we still sat there waiting to

go touch base.

Then we started to hear it again and we ran out and told

our parents what happened and ever since then we haven’t been

in there.

Music is Life Opinion by: Alma Atondo/ss

Music is great. Music is an escape.

Some people would say that music is one of

the most important and powerful things in life.

It affects people a lot. Life without melodies

and harmonies would be empty.

Listening to different tunes helps

with relaxation, sleep, and waking up. It can

also help motivate someone to do something.

I love listening to

music anytime, anywhere, all

day. Music allows you to

reminisce on memories from

times of your childhood or

any time that you have lived.

I believe that music has the

ability to convey all sorts of

emotions.

Whether the emo-

tion is joy and happiness or

sadness and despair, music shows it through

rhythms, harmonies, and lyrics.

The effect that music can have on

our emotions is tremendous, as it can bring

people to floods of tears or bursts of happi-

ness. Music can create images in our minds.

Music has the ability to transport you back in

time like a time machine.

It lets you revisit lost and forgotten

moments in life. Music is more than just

something to listen to or play, it is something

to feel. Music imitates life and life imitates

Game Review:

Far Cry Primal By Nick Bradford/kk

It’s hard to imagine any other mod-

ern first-person shooter game that allows

players to make a 12,000 year trip back in

time but Far Cry primal made it work.

Far Cry Primal takes you back to

10,000 BCE with a Stone Age setting. The

plot of the game is you play as the hunter

Takkar, who is part of the tribe Wenja who is

waging war against the other tribes in the

game universe.

The game has a great character de-

sign, terrific atmosphere, and addictive game-

play that loops. However the game has some

negatives like the missions are basic and there

is very little story development, and un-

derused supporting cast.

It took me around 20 hours to get

through the main campaign as well as some

of the side quests. Overall, the story didn’t

have any real twists, drama, and depth in it

that I hoped and thought it would have.

As I was going around the game

collecting stuff I found out that Far Cry added

a new feature to the game that I could tame

and ride animals like bears, sabertooth tigers,

and many others.

But the cool thing is that I can send

the animal I tamed to fight for me or I can

ride it to battle with me.

which he was summoned as it’s crumbling down due to his defeat.

Khadgar, Leader of the Kirin Tor, walks up to the now destroyed portal and notices that Gul’dans’ staff disappears from the

ground on which it laid. He then turns to the player and says it is not the last you will see of him.

Players will start off in Legion going on a quest for legendary relics that were lost to time. These relics are immensely more pow-

erful than anything else on Azeroth, and were held by major characters in the World of Warcraft lore. For example, Tirion Fordring wielded

the Ashbringer a 2-handed holy blessed sword

that was a major part in the fight scourge in

the Wraith of the Lich King expansion but was

lost with the fall of the Lich King, the leader

of the scourge.

With the addition of these new weap-

on types Blizzard is also introducing a new

class; Demon Hunters which are brought

around due to the return of Illidan Stormrage

the original Demon Hunter. All of these an-

cient artifacts and heroes are resurfacing be-

cause of the threat Azeroth falls under.

Back when Archimonde threw

Gul’dans’ soul through the portal he mentions

something about a pact between him and

Gul’dan. When Gul’dan lands on the other

side of the portal he finds a place called The

Tomb of Sargeras, a lost area that held the soul of a fallen Titan. He begins the ritual needed to open the tomb and release Sargeras, The

Destroyer. Players venture forth to The Broken Isles and work with the opposite faction to fight against the new threat that could destroy

everything. Players will go into dungeons that resemble the Norse Mythology of Odin, Thor, Valhalla and Freya and will delve into the

depths of the Broken Isles in search of items that will help along the quest in stopping Gul’dan.

The summoning for Sargeras involves gaining five pillars of power from around The Broken Isles, Stormheim Suramar,

Highmountain, Val’Sharah, Azsuna, The Broken Shore, And Thal’Dranath. Players will fight their way into the heart of The Broken Isles,

Val’Sharah, which is where the Tomb of Sargeras lies.

Once there Players will be faced with a unimaginable amount of demons that have pushed forth from the demonic gates which

Gul’dan has opened in order to stop a Players push into the tomb. Gamers will be pushed to their limits as they and their friends taking the

final stand for Azeroth to stay in existence.
