Dear Parents
There has been plenty of musical activity going on over the last week.
In assembly on Friday in the SD we were treated to performances by a
number of boys across the SD and then on Monday morning we had
our Singers Breakfast Concert. Later that day we had the first round of
the Michael Stuckey Competition, so well done to all who took part
and particularly to those that made it through to the final. It was a
very high standard. Then on Tuesday morning our Year 5s had their
final composition workshop and we look forward to hearing the final
piece at the Michael Stuckey Concert on Tuesday 9 October along with
a number of other performers.
In the SD assembly last Thursday and then in the JD, we were treated
to a visit by a British athlete and top sprinter – Deji Tobais. The boys
definitely found hearing about his training regime an eye-opener. It is
always lovely to wander round the school at lunch-time and see what
clubs are running. On Tuesday I caught a bit of our older boys
discussing the question “Does prison work?” in debating club, and then
saw some getting their teeth into Ancient Greek.
It was lovely to see so many at the Senior Schools Fair on Wednesday
evening. We had around thirty schools and plenty of parents. It’s a
good opportunity for parents to make first contact with the schools
and then hopefully follow-up with visits. If you have any feedback on the evening please do let us know.
The new Art Room has finally been handed over and I’ve seen plenty of boys sneaking a look in, with lots of excited comments. Photos and more on
that next week.
Quiz Night – Looking forward to seeing many of you at the Quiz Night tonight – you may want to look at this week’s newsletter quiz.

Dear Parents
Thank you so much for your generous Harvest donations, we had boxes and bags filled to the brim and it is all
going to such a good cause. The children have been talking about Harvest and we can’t celebrate Harvest
without singing ‘cauliflowers fluffy‘ and ‘big red combine harvester’!
There have been mice up in Caterpillar Class, but don’t be alarmed, they are very friendly mice who love to run
up clocks! Hickory Dickory Dock was this week’s nursery rhyme and the children have made some super clocks
and very sweet mice. It was also a lovely opportunity to practise our number recognition.
In Butterfly Class they have been learning about desert animals. There have been a few snakes slithering
around and cucumber covered in cocktail sticks made very realistic cacti in the desert landscape! In science
club the children used sweets to create the most vibrant rainbows. They had to predict what would happen
when they added water and then learnt all about dissolving!
Just a couple of reminders;
Please label clearly your child’s lunchbox and water bottle, it does save confusion at lunch time.
Please can I also remind you that our travel plan states that there can be no parking or dropping off children in
Princes Road.
I am looking forward to seeing some of you at the Quiz Night this evening. The Nursery staff have got a table
so we will all be there joining in the fun.

Dear Parents
On Friday, Helium Helen from Mad Science came in to give an amazing assembly in which she
demonstrated some of the experiments that take place in her after school club science clubs. She
made a boiled egg squeeze through the neck of a conical flask by lighting a couple of matches
inside it to create a vacuum, then asked an unwitting volunteer to remove it using only the power
of his lungs. She then created a fireball using flour and a foot pump, much to the boys’
amusement! We were up at St Matthias Church on Tuesday preparing for the Harvest Festival and I
must say how impressed I was with the Reception and Year 1 boys. They way in which they
conducted themselves was excellent – listening to instructions and acting on Mrs Murray’s advice
so that they could improve their performances. I know they can’t wait to get on the stage and sing
their songs to everyone this afternoon. In class, 2D have been learning about China this week. The
boys were fascinated with the history of The Terracotta Army and enjoyed making their own
terracotta warriors out of clay. In Year 1, I couldn’t help but notice the beautiful whales the boys
painted using watercolours and salt as well as the fantastic polar bears they have on display as part
of the Polar Regions topic. Do take a look when you are here for parents evening in a week or so.

Football Well done to all the boys who have represented the school over the last few days against Danes Hill and
Shrewsbury House. These are always competitive fixtures and it has been great to see the spirit and character
of the King’s House boys shining through. Some superb performances along the way but the attitude
towards every fixture has been the most pleasing thing for us as a department.
Fixture Rearrangements The previously postponed Senior fixtures against Rokeby have been rearranged for Wednesday 7 November.
Details of venues to be confirmed in the coming weeks, but all fixtures will kick off 2.30pm
Year 5 improving their volleyball skills this week! Keep it up boys!

Last week on Thursday we were very luck in both
the Senior and Junior Departments to have a visit
from 100m and 200m athlete Deji Tobais.
Deji spoke to us in assembly about his career,
some of the setbacks he has suffered, the
sacrifices he had to make and the importance of a
healthy, balanced diet. It was fascinating to listen
to, especially history about racing Usain Bolt.
We wish him all the best in the lead up to major
championships. Mr Alex Churcher
