Dear Parents
The football season came to an end last Saturday so it was great to be at the grounds to see
the last round of matches. Over the last week our senior teams had split the fixtures so the
1st, 3
rd, 5
th and 7
th teams played Harrodian’s 1
st to 4
th teams on Tuesday and then on Saturday
our 2nd
, 4th
and 6th
teams played against Newland House’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams – all our
teams playing up a team or more. This really shows the strength depth that we have with our
sport at the moment. On Saturday our 2nd
team won 4-0 with a nonchalant last minute penalty
from Tom – and they have gone the season unbeaten – just two draws alongside the rest being
wins. The 3rd
team, who finished off last Tuesday actually won every game, which is a remarka-
ble record. The SD now moves to rugby while football continues in the JD until the end of
term.
A big thank you to the Year 8 boys who led our Remembrance Day service last Friday. It was a
very moving ceremony and thank you to Robert who played the Last Post so well. As you will
have gathered from last week we have chosen our charity for our main events this year but to-
day (as this goes out) and yesterday we have our traditional November cake sales in the JD and
SD and this is for Children in Need. Thank you in advance for your support with this.
Our Year 8s have been busy this week with their November set of exams. We are aiming to
have the results on the portal by Monday evening so that you have them all for the Year 8
parents evenings next Tuesday and Thursday. We’ve also had a large number of Year 6s sitting
the ISEB Common Pre-tests this week. The number of schools using these has grown and we
had boys sitting for eleven different schools. It is good to see that most are settling on the
November window for these, as we believe this helps the boys.
I am sure you all be delighted to know that Miss Keylock gave birth to a baby boy, Idris, last
week. We wish her and the baby all the best.

Creating animal homes Bat knowledge Sensory play
Dear Parents
We were treated to a very informative talk from Sophie’s Mummy this week, all about bats. The children were fascinated to
learn that the wing span of a fruit bat was as wide as an adults outstretched arms and that a micro bat could curl up on the
end of your finger. The children even had a lovely interactive demonstration of echolocation, to demonstrate how bats find
food in the dark! The talk was part of this week’s Butterfly Class topic on nocturnal animals. The children have created
hedgehogs, owls and even used natural materials to design some lovely environments for little creatures.
It was getting very messy up in the Caterpillar room as they explored their senses. They were experimenting with coloured
cornflour and there were lots of little turquoise coloured hands that went home on Wednesday. However, I have to say that I
think Mrs Hughes had the most fun and got into the biggest mess. Her hands and arms are a lovely deep shade of turquoise!
Thank you so much to those of you who have already sent in your child’s costume for the Nativity. We really do appreciate
your support with helping make it a special event. The children have been busy creating the Nativity wall display, which will be
our backdrop and it is really taking shape. It has also helped them understand the story and realise that Spider Man and Elsa
from Frozen did not feature!
Have a lovely weekend.

Dear Parents
As this week is anti-bullying week, we started with an assembly designed to make the boys think about how each one of
them is unique and equally important to the school, like the ingredients in a cake. I set them a challenge to think of one
thing they could do to make someone they know in school feel valued, respected and part of the school community, and
I look forward to seeing how many of them have managed it when we come back to it on Monday. I popped into an
interesting Year 3 Science lesson this week, where the boys were sending toy cars down ramps to learn about how
friction affects the distance the car will travel and I went to a Year 2 Art lesson where they were creating some fabulously
detailed felt pen pictures in the style of the Brazilian artist, Romero Britto. On Thursday 2M gave an excellent
entertaining assembly linked to their ‘Around the World’ topic about the different regions of the globe. They threw
everything at it, including music, dance and language lessons as well as information about climate and points of
historical interest. It was clear to see that they had thoroughly immersed themselves in the different cultures they had
been learning about. As I write, cakes are being deposited in the lobby, ready for our Children in Need cake sale. I very
much look forward to sampling the tasty delights on offer and reporting next week on how much money we managed
to raise. Thank you to everyone who got baking for this very worthwhile cause. Mrs Atkinson has asked me to remind
parents, please, to return any items of clothing they have borrowed from the school office for PE or swimming.
Regrettably, I received a complaint this week from a neighbour on Spring Grove Road who was very upset about King’s
House parents parking on the yellow lines, blocking the corners where Spring Grove Road meets King’s Road. Doing so
inhibits the view of drivers exiting the junction and massively increases the risk of an accident occurring.

Football v Newland House
Congratulations to the 2nds, 4ths, 6ths, U11B
and C and the U10B and D teams who
brought our football season to a close with
some impressive performances. Some
standout performances from Luke (U11B) and
Thomas (U10B) were a highlight, whilst the
2nd
team can be proud to finish the season
unbeaten. Their 4-0 win over Newland House’s
1st XI a fitting way for many of the Year 8 boys
to sign off their football career at King’s
House.

Rugby Season
The rugby season has started! Please ensure your sons have mouth guards for every
training session and match. Please also note that any stud is LEGAL for rugby as long as
they are not sharp/roughed up. Whilst we will make every effort as a department to keep
an eye on this, please regularly check your son’s boots and replace any studs that have
become sharp with new ones.

Senior Department Carol Service on Tuesday 12 December at 7pm in
St. Matthias Church. We are holding a number of rehearsals on the following
dates:

It would be great if those who sing in the choir can attend a good proportion
of these rehearsals but we appreciate that it might be a bit much to commit to
all of them! Please don’t worry about being able to read music or being
completely wonderful at singing – it would be lovely to have as many of you
involved as possible.
