Question 1:
A display of can on a grocery shelf consists of 57 cans on the bottom, 53 cans in the next row, 49 can in the next row ans so on until the top row has 9 cans.
(a) Referring to the first three rows:
(i) What the difference between the number of can in the 2nd row and the 1st row, the 3rd row and the 2nd row?
57, 53, 49 ……9
The difference between the number of can in the 2nd row and the 1st row.
d =53 – 57
= -4
The difference between the time spend for the 3rd week and the 2nd week.
d =49 – 53
= -4
(ii) What is the ratio of the number of can in the 2nd row and the 1st row, the 3rd
row and the 2nd row?
The ratio of the number of can in the 2nd row and the 1st row
r=5357
The ratio of the number of can in the 3rd row and the 2nd row
r=4957

(iii) Base on (i) and (ii), what is your conclusion?
The difference between the two rows are constant. The ratio between the two rows
are different. Therefore, the cans are arranged according to Arithmetics
progressions.
(b) How many cans in total are in the display?
Tn = a+(n-1)d
9 = 57 + (n-1)(-4)
-4n + 4 = -48
n-1 = 12
n = 13
Sn = n2 [2a+(n-1)d]
S13 = 132 [2(57) + (13-1) (-4)]
= 429

Question 2:
You are given a box with small blocks. You asked to put one marble in the 1st box, 2 marble in the 2nd box, 4 marble in the 3rd box and so on until you completed all the block in the box.
a) Referring to the first three measurement:
i) What is the different between the 2nd measurement and the 1st measurement, the 3rd
measurement dan the 2nd measurement?
i) d1 = 2 - 1
= 1
d2 = 4 - 2
= 2
ii) What is the ratio of the 2nd measurement and the 1st measurement, the ratio of the 2nd measurement?
(ii) r1 = 21
= 2
r2 = 42
= 2
iii) Base on ( i ) and ( i i ), what is your conclusion?
The difference between the two rows are different. The ratio between the two rows are constant. Therefore, the cans are arranged according to Geometry progressions.

b) How many marbles are needed to fill up all the blocks in the box?
