SASS Recognition Week – next week we Celebrate our SAS Staff. Do you know what SASS
means? SASS stands for School Administration and Support Staff. Next week students, parents and staff
at KPS would like to acknowledge the hard work done by our SAS Staff.
This year's theme is "SAS Staff Essentials" and our SAS staff are definitely essential to Katoomba Public
School.
Our SAS staff at our school are Mrs Blackley, Mrs Williams, Mrs Shannon and Ms Brown, Mrs Gaut who
work in our office, classrooms and library. Mr Wilson, is our General Assistant who looks after our
grounds and maintenance.
Every day, in so many ways, our valuable SAS staff support us in our school. Without our SAS staff we
would not be able to provide the wonderful school that we have here at KPS.
National Recognition Week is a great time to thank all our SAS staff for their hard work and dedication to
our school. Please give them all an extra big smile and thankyou next week!
…………………… What a fabulous Tuesday night we had at the Sydney Opera House.
The 2016 Festival of Instrumental Music – Banksia Concert featured musically diverse
performances by NSW Public and High School students in the Concert Hall.
This magnificent concert series involves more than 400
schools and literally thousands of students from across NSW
in Combined String and Combined Recorder Ensembles.
These ensembles present diverse and challenging repertoire
including specially commissioned or arranged works from
Australian composers.
Thank you to Mrs Schoeler and Mrs Galbraith. It really was
an amazing night and a wonderful opportunity for our KPS
students to play at the Opera House. Congratulations to all the students involved.

Don’t forget our Book Week Parade will be held tomorrow at 2.10pm in the Hall. Parents/carers are welcome to
come along and watch. The Parade is always lots of fun, with the students dressed up as their favourite book
character and the teachers adding to the festivities in their own interesting outfits!
The Monty Pryor performance is on Monday. Payments and permission notes were due back on the 19th August. If you still
want your child to go you will have to pay by tomorrow or your child will miss out.
Please remember we cannot take payments on the day as it is during the payment freeze for the finance changeover.

T20 Milo Cricket Gala Day On the 15th of August 28 students went down to Katoomba Falls Reserve for a cricket gala
day. The girls’ team did really well and so did both of the boys’ teams. The highlight of the
day for some people was batting. Thank you to Ms Wilson and Mr Gero for looking after us.

The POP (Parent Online Payments) button on the website will not be active during the finance system
change over period 31st August to 5th September.
We will be unable to take payments or receipt any money that week so please do not send in camp payments or any other money during that period.
A new receipting system will be set up when the school “Goes Live” with the new LMBR office systems during the week starting 5th September. Until the system is running smoothly it will not be possible to receipt at the front counter, so please follow normal protocols and send any payments in an envelope to your child’s teacher or pay online when the POP button is re-installed.
There may be some disruption to normal office functions during that week as we set up the data and transition to the new systems. We thank you for your patience at this time.

This Term, our school, like many other public schools in the state, will participate in the Tell Them From Me student
feedback survey. The survey aims to help improve student learning outcomes and measures factors that are known
to affect academic achievement and other student outcomes. The focus of the NSW-wide survey is on student
wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices.
You may remember that our 4 – 6 students also participated in a Tell Them From Me student survey in Term 1 this
year. Asking students to complete the survey twice in one year allows us to identify trends in student responses as
well as track engagement and motivation across the school year.
Each 4 – 6 student will be bringing home a note containing some more information and a note to complete and
return if you do not wish your child to participate. More information is also available at: http://
surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au/information-for-parents
Next week we will also be opening an online parent survey. The Partners in Learning survey asks parents and carers
questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement. Look out for
KatNews next week for more information on how to access this survey and have a chance to have your say. Angie Wilson, Assistant Principal Wellbeing
