Community Liaison News

Keeping safe They say it takes a village to raise a child. I don’t know about that, but I do believe that it takes a community to keep us all safe. One way we can help keep each others’ children safe is by putting up the Merriwa St crossing flags in the morning. If you’re wandering by and notice the flags aren’t up yet, please take a moment to pop them up (they live in the foyer next to the office). When the flags are up, the crossing has the same legal status as a permanent crossing, ie cars must stop for pedestrians, making it much safer for all who use the crossing!

Year 6 farewell dinner Just a reminder to all parents and carers and other special adults in the lives of the year 6 students …. It’s the Year 6 Farewell Dinner on Tuesday 13th December 2016 at 6pm and if you’re able to, it would be lovely to meet with your child at Echo Point at 5.30pm so we can take photos of the Fabulous Class of 2016. Parents and carers (and significant others) are then going to meet at the Carrington after dropping their Year 6 folk at the Hotel Blue. Cate Paterson Community Liaison Officer

Year 6 News The Year 6 Final Assembly will be held tomorrow (2nd December). Parents /carers are welcome to join the Year

6 students for crunch & sip in the Kitchen Garden after the Assembly.

High School Orientation Day

from 9am to 1pm for a fun day. Parents please note that students are to go directly to the High School and back

home after the event.

Community Notice - Carols on the Bus If you want to do some carol singing this Christmas, there are still seats available on the Big Red

Bus that tours the Upper Mountains on Saturday 24th December. It visits a retirement village,

sings to the tourists at Echo Point and drops by a street party. There is no charge and you don’t

have to be a great singer to join in the fun. It starts at 3pm in front of the Carrington and ends

back at the Carrington bus stop at 5pm.

You need to confirm your seat by ringing Carol on 0450 660 740. The Combined Churches of the Upper Mountains are

organising the event with the support of Fantastic Aussie Tours. At 5pm there will be a Family Carols Service at St Hilda’s

Anglican Church across the road from the bus stop.

Ethics News A huge thank you to our dedicated team of volunteer Ethics Teachers this year - Tony, Jeneva and Nerolie. Without you, the children wouldn’t have this fabulous opportunity.

This year we were able to offer ethics classes to students in Years 1 &2 and Years 4, 5 & 6. We’re looking for more volunteers for 2017 so we can offer ethics to every student who wants the opportunity. If you are available on a Wednesday between 11.30am and 12.45pm and are interested in facilitating ethics discussions with a group of enthusiastic young people, then have a look at the Primary Ethics website https://primaryethics.com.au/ and consider volunteering. If you’d like more information contact Cate Paterson, Volunteer Ethics Co-ordinator on 4782 6135.

Soccer Gala Day Last week a selection of students went to a Soccer Gala Day at Pitt Park. We played eight games including

the semi-finals and finals. The team was undefeated!

We had to have nine people on the field and three had to be girls. River and Ashton were goalies, and other

boys on the team were Dominic, Will, Toby, Jack, Henry, Thomas and Michael. Girls included Eleanor, Tarni,

Jemmiah, Carli and Matilda. In the semi-finals we played against Blackheath and Lawson played against

North Katoomba. Then in the finals we played against Lawson.

We won two trophies, one for us to keep and one trophy for the next school that wins to keep until 2018.

We give thanks for all the effort the players put into the games.

A huge thank you to Mr Nicholson for organising this amazing sports gala day.

Penrith Lakes Excursion Here are some photos of 1S’s fabulous

excursion to Penrith Lakes with 2W.

We explored wet and dry environments to

find out more about the small animals that

live there. We used dip nets to catch

water bugs, fish and crustaceans and we

found bugs in dry environments. We also

got close to a super stick insect! It was a

great day!
