Over 60 million years ago, the Pannonian Plain, which includes the north-east-ern part of Slovenia, was covered by the rolling waves of the Pannonian Sea. To-day it is covered by rolling corn fields and thermal waters, as this area is thickly dotted with thermal springs. One of them can be experienced at Terme Banovci: healing thermal mineral water, rich in fluoride, springs from a depth of 1700 m and has a temperature of between 58 and 60 °C.

Visit the Enchanting Prlekija

Pr l e k i j a is a region that lies between the Drava and Mura rivers. Its many contrasts and melodic dialect make it a truly unique place. The pace of life here is dictated by the capital of Prlekija, the town of Ljutomer – or Lotmerk, as the locals call it. Ljutomer is an equestrian town, famous for its trotting races, while the captivating landscapes of Prlekija make it a paradise for walking and cycling trips, discovering the Mura or visiting a beekeeper, potter or miller.

The nearby Ljutomersko-Ormoške gorice are renowned for quality wines and the inhabitants of Prlekija are also proud of their traditional cuisine: go-urmets can enjoy authentic dishes, such as milk soup, potato and cream soup, mushroom soup with buckwheat groats, tünka meat (preserved in lard) and many more things…

It is hard to remain in a bad mood for long in Prlekija, since the inhabitants of this region are known to be extremely hospitable, happy and ingenious people who love a good joke. Sometimes at their own expense, preferably at their neighbour’s expense, but always with the good intention of making the time pass more pleasantly. When they talk about Prlekija, it is always with a special enthusiasm. And they are not exaggerating! Visit Prlekija yourself and you will see that when they talk about this wonderful region, they cannot do it justice.

Pomurje, Prekmurje, Prlekija…? The people who live by the Mura like to be specific: if you are standing on the right bank of the Mura, you cannot say you are in Prekmurje. You are not; Prekmurje is on the other side of the river, on the other side of the Mura. The right bank of the Mura is where you will find Prlekija, the region between the hilly Slovenske Gorce and the flat Pomurje, where the inhabitants speak in the melodic Prlekija dialect, which is a curiosity even to Slovenian visitors.

The Camp and Nudist Camp Sončni gaj The unspoiled nature surrounding Terme Banovci is the ideal location for people who wish to spend their vacation in genuine touch with na-ture. The classic camp has 130 camping spots, as well as showers and toilets, and guests can bathe in swimming pools of Terme Banovci.

The Sončni gaj nudist camp is one of only a handful of European nudist camps that offer their guests the possibility of bathing and swimming in thermal water. The camp has 70 camping spots and is separated from the classic camp. There are showers and toilets and guests can swim in a round pool with thermal water.

In the summer season, the self-service restaurant Pri banovskem gu-sarju (At the Banovci Pirate) is open, where guests can enjoy a di-verse culinary menu and the fresh flavours of summer. The speciality of the summer menu is the mega 6 m sandwich that the Banovci pirates enjoy once a week.

The healing springs give Banovci the gift of thermal mineral water, rich in fluoride. The water springs from a depth of 1,700 m and has a temperature of between 58 and 60 °C. Its many beneficial effects have a relaxing and healing influence on swimmers and bathers. The water from Banovci is a recognised natural healing substance. It is most effective in the treatment of rheumatism and for recovery after bone, joint and muscle surgery.

Wellness

Almost 2,000 m2 of water surfaces with waterfalls, slides, under-water massage, whirlpools, springs and light and sound effects to surprise and entertain you… They are all here, either for joyful children’s play or the experience of complete relaxation and com-fort. You can swim in three outdoor pools and an indoor pool with thermal water (34-38 °C), a swimming pool with ordinary water that is heated even in the winter, a pool with a waterslide and a children’s pool. There is also a separate pool with thermal and ordinary water, which is part of the Sončni gaj nudist camp and is intended for nudist swimmers.

The Prlekija Style Wold of Saunas and Wellness in an African Style Visiting a sauna at Terme Banovci is a unique experience. This is not only because the design of the three Finnish saunas, the steam sauna and relaxation corner was inspired by the pottery tra-dition of Prlekija, but also because each of the saunas is named after a part of the traditional Prlekija house. You can ask the sauna attendants what the Protrol (extreme Finnish sauna), Črna kühja (regular Finnish sauna), Zelhenca (relaxation Finnish sauna) and Sopot (steam Turkish sauna) are used for in Prlekija. Another spe-

cial characteristic of the world of saunas is a daily sauna programme with air swirling and themed evenings with sweet snacks (from yog-hurt to baked apples), refreshing drinks and sometimes even a sip of beer. And another speciality: there is a special evening programme organised in the world of saunas at full moon and new moon, ending with ice cream at midnight.

In the pleasant rooms of the friendly wellness centre, you can cho-ose from various facial and body treatments, massages, warm and mud compresses, underwater massage and herbal, pearl and thermal baths. You absolutely have to try the angel bath for two – the candle-light and enchanting environment with flowers and refreshing drinks will truly make you feel as though you are among angels.

If, while wandering the Prlekija region, you come across a band of rogues sporting red pirate bandanas and led by the inquisitive pirate Edi, then you are very close to Banovci. Do not be too sur-prised: Edi the pirate once sailed the Pannonian Sea but got lost eventually, so we offered him a home at Terme Banovci.
