each. We estimate the pot at $1,200 Saturday.

Now to the top 32 Match Play finals. In the first round, the fifteen losers were award-ed checks of $222.50. In round, two eight losers were Angel Hilvano, Andy Toro, Tomas Chavez, Nick Lee, Mike Moore, Jeanette Chang, Go Go Brown, and Florinda Rosario. Each getting checks of $245. In Round three, the four losers were Marvin Gal-sim Sr., Don Chung, Armand Garcia, and Bernie Navarro with each getting checks of $330.

We are now down to the final five bowlers. In these matches Freddie Catamisan fell to Steve Brode in a tigh-tone 231-115. Tom Mazzulla got to Andy Yu 235-211. So Andy and Freddie are 4th and 5th and $625 each with Brode and Mazzulla to bowl for the right to meet Villaroman for the Title. This match was a good one also.

Our semi-final match would pit two men who bowl most every week with us. In a tense game Tom had a few problems and Brode won on tough lanes 199-173. Tom was 3rd with a great showing and Brode, last week’s champ at Friendly Hills is off to the title game. Brode had a chance to be a Back to Back Champion which few have mastered in ABTA History. Brode was the Horse winner paying $69 to the faithful who placed their $5 on him.

Moore, Kelley & Roberto Share $4,340 Match Game at CAL BOWL – Cyndi Kelley, Mike Moore & Bonnie Roberto were some what happier that they bowled that 122 game in ABTA Memorial Event as it paid off the tune of $1,466 each! All are very deserving and regular ABTA performers. Congrats!! Pictured are Mike Moore & Bonnie Roberto, Cyndi was not on hand for the picture!!

The title game was on at CAL Bowl. Top Qualifier Ted Villaroman elected to start the match on left lane and he struck. Brode also started out with a strike, and spare to open up the match. Ted struck and spared, and they both wereclean til frame 5 where Teddy opened, 5-10 split, and again opened in frame 6. At this point Brode had a 16 pin lead and was clean through 8 frames, But Ted doubled in the 7-8 frames. They both opened in the 9th frame, and here we are, 10th frame, Brode up by 7 pins. Brode left a strong 4 pin. He missed to the right giving him 9 out and opening the door for Ted who no needed a mark. He struck and now needed only 7 pins and he left a 10 pin to win via 208-204 count (all scores posted are w/Handicap) Ted takes home $5,000 for the victory and an additional $2,875 for Cash and Carry, $150 for bowling in the last three events, $750 for bowl-ing in 33+ squads in the last year, and an additional $275 for wearing his ABTA Shirt to give him a total of $8,900. Steve would take home $2,500 for his second place finish in this exciting title match.

Teddy Villaroman is from Orange, married to Ofie a staunch supporter of his and ABTA. They have two daugh-ters Tracy and Kristy. Used a IQ Fusion drilled by Ben Mach of Westminster Lanes. He thanks Armand, Je Je, Jeff, and Ed for support and the ABTA Staff for a great job.

der drilled by Ben Mach also. He would like to thank his family and his Mom. Patti also cashed in this event. Thanks to Jack, George, Danny, Ed, Marvyn G, and Mike Moore-more and talks to CAL Bowl, Leonard and Eric and staff.

PBA TO RETURN TO OKLAHOMA’S GRAND CASINO RESORT FIRELAKE BOWLING CENTER FOR 2015 SUMMER SWING

SHAWNEE — The Professional Bowlers Association and Citizen Potawatomi Nation have reached agreement to return to Shawnee, Okla., for the third annual PBA Summer Swing in 2015. Dates and other details have yet to be finalized, but the announcement that the PBA will return to Oklahoma was made during the Grand Casino Resort PBA Summer Swing finals by Citizen Pota-watomi Nation Chairman John (Rocky) Barrett.

It is expected the 2015 program will be similar to the 2014 Summer Swing, with preliminary rounds held at FireLake Bowling Center (also operated by the Grand Casino Resort group) with finals held on a special lane installation in the Grand Event Center in the Grand Casino Resort and Hotel complex.

“The PBA is very happy to renew our relationship with the Citizen Potawatomi Nation and Grand Casino Resort group,” said PBA Commissioner Tom Clark. “The 2014 event was a terrific experience. Our hosts could not have been more accommodating. FireLake is a great facility for our preliminary rounds, and the Grand Event Center provided us with a terrific setting for the finals. We couldn’t be happier. It’s great news for the PBA and our members to know a full year in advance that we’re coming back to Oklahoma.”

Medford (Ore.) and I’ve had a few other chances,” Rash said. “You just want to make a good shot to give yourself a chance. It was a great feeling, one of those you’ll never forget.”

In the second match, an unconverted 4-6-7 split by Sweden’s Larsen in the sixth frame allowed Rash to stay close, and a 4 pin on Larsen’s first shot in the 10th frame gave Rash a chance to win. Working on a strike in the ninth frame, Rash added three more in the 10th frame for a come-from-behind 225-221 victory.

“All you can ask for in situations like that is a chance,” Rash said. “If (Larsen) strikes on that first shot in the 10th, my day is over. But I still had to double. You just have to put yourself in the right frame of mind. You have to go through the process because once you let go of the ball, you have no control over the end result. Fortunately it turned out the right way for me.”

In the semifinal match, Fagan struggled with pin carry, throwing only three strikes in the first eight frames while Rash struck on eight of his first nine shots on his way to a 241-214 victory. In the title match, Rash continued to pound the pocket while Barnes never built any momentum.

“Fagan and (Larsen) both threw urethane balls and I think it backfired on them,” Rash noted. “They didn’t have the hold and the look they had in the preliminary round at FireLake (Bowling Center, where preliminary rounds were conducted). I think if Barnes had a re-do, he’d probably throw a different ball, but the ball he threw (at FireLake) got him into the lead and he ran away from the field. He has a lot of confidence in that ball.”

While Rash’s strikes were key to his victory, the deciding factor actually was his spare shooting. He had only two open frames in four games – one a split, one a chopped 6-10 spare attempt.

“When the scoring pace is high, you can’t miss the pocket, but you also have to fill frames,” he said. “The one thing I’m proud about this week is that I bowled 52 games and missed four spares. That’s what I really work on at home. I don’t practice throwing strikes very much.”

With his win in the Wolf Open, Rash claimed the first berth in the Oklahoma’s Grand Casino Resort King of the Swing special event that will conclude the Summer Swing.

Oklahoma’s Grand Casino Resort PBA Summer Swing continues next Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network with the finals of the PBA Bear Open. Bear finalists include top qualifier Tommy Jones of Simpsonville, S.C.; Bill O’Neill, Langhorne, Pa.; Ronnie Russell, Marion, Ind.; Rhino Page, Dade City, Fla., and Dick Allen, Columbia, S.C.

CBS Sports Network is available across the country through local cable, video and telco provid-ers and via satellite on DirecTV Channel 221 and Dish Network Channel 158. For more informa-tion, including a full programming schedule and how to get CBS Sports Network, go to www.cbssportsnetwork.com.

Pre-game shows for each PBA Summer Swing event will be posted on PBA’s online bowling channel, Xtra Frame and on PBA’s YouTube page on Monday’s prior to the telecast. Post-game shows will air on Xtra Frame and YouTube following each telecast. Complete coverage of each event will be archived on Xtra Frame three days after the original air date.

Bowling News is proud to bring you....

You can’t be more amazed than when you spend some time with today’s younger generation.

Whether it is them displaying their flying fingers on com-puters, their flying feet in gymnastics or their rolling the ball and making parents and grandparents take a good second look at their talent, mentally and physically.

All sports and all fields have their child prodigies. There have been teenagers in every major sport, and many in their early teens, particularly in swimming and tennis.

Many of them have been great or gone on to greatness, at great sacrifice, being forced to grow up too quickly, being forced to choose between fame and fortune early, or after a suitable stretch of education.

In the dream world it would be wonderful if every young athlete in every sport was forced to obtain a high school education at a minimum, and college or other advanced training as a recommended path.

But the real world doesn’t work out so neatly. Some really young baseball, basketball, tennis and

hockey phenoms can and do make millions of dollars be-fore they can legally drink or vote. How and when do you tell them they are too young or too unprepared? At 17 they can be accepted into the armed services and put their lives on the line.

So how can you realistically ask any youngster talented way beyond their years to put a hold on opportunities and riches that may not be there later.

In many cases it is boys against men, and girls against women. But boys grow up fast these days and women aren’t nearly as mere as they used to be.

Bowlers are amazingly adept at early ages. You can visit any junior program and see obvious talent. But, at 15 many bowlers have been bowling for a decade, and bowl-ing at pro class calibre for years. By the time they are ready for college, many are ready for a shot at pro tours or the big money tournaments.

Look at the Mark Roths, Johnny Petraglias and Pete Webers and a list of thousands and you could see super stars in the making at ages of 17 or younger.

Junior bowlers can’t be reminded too often that a 200 game is fine, but an “A” in any subject is better. A tourna-ment win is terrific, but the Honor Roll is more terrific. A 300 game or even a 900 series is great, but a diploma is the greatest.

In bowling there is no reason why both areas cannot be encouraged. A high school or college student can utilize his time, so much can be spent on bowling and much can be spent on study. And students can map out a schedule that covers both sides, and gives them the best of both worlds.

Parents, bowling coaches and bowling officials have a duty to counsel young bowlers and not to put too much pressure on them in either way, except to use common sense.

Education should always come first, but bowling is an education too, if used wisely, whether you’re a shooting star or a struggler. But always hit the books as hard as you hit the pins.

NOTES TO NOTEThere are two main theories as to how to break bowling

slumps. On school feels the answer is to bowl a lot more, and another advises to bowl a lot less. When we asked super coach John Jowdy, he laughed and said, “Both meth-ods work.”

*****It’s great what coaching and experience will do for any

bowler. I recall one top pro who gave a speech and told how when he started he took three steps, and hopped like a frog. Many years of experience and untold hours of coaching, now he takes four steps, and hops like a frog.

*****Warning to all bowlers. When you come up with a key

shot to win, you can yell, cheer, leap, hi fi, slap your and other hands, and maybe even spike the ball, but just be real careful about praying.

*****The really large silent majority in this country are the

bowlers who never have rolled a 200 game.*****

A sportsman who owned race horses for many years got interested in bowling, and sponsored some pro bowl-ers. Asked the difference, he said, “The horses don’t talk back, and I know where they are every night.”

*****Knocking 10 pins down on the first ball earns you a strike

on the scoresheet. If you rack up 12 strikes in a row, you have a 300 game, yet in reality you have knocked down only 120 pins. So why don’t we say the final score is 300 points rather than 300 pins knocked down?

*****The pro tours can be a difficult way to attempt to make

a living. That’s why I like the story about the two men, one a struggling pro bowler, who won five milliion dollars each in a lottery. When asked what they were going to do with all the money, the first man happily described how he was going to quit work at once, spend a lot of time fishing and playing golf, travel and take life easy, living high on his new found wealth.

The bowler scratched his head, thought a bit, then said, “I guess I’ll just keep bowling on the tour untll the money is all gone.”

*****You always hear about the champions and winning

bowlers being such good sports. What have they got to complain about?

ANAHEIM — Can we help send a junior bowler to the Pepsi National Champi-onships? I hope we have your attention and your answer is, “YOU BET WE CAN”!!

This junior bowler is 14 year old Deanna Gomez and she has bowled in the junior program at Linbrook Bowl for over five years and in that time has really improved her game. Her current 2012-13 book average is 179, however her average for the 2014-15 was bumped up to 187; pretty darn awesome for a youth bowler! Her bowling accomplishments are something to be very proud of but more than that, she is as nice and as humble a kid you will find anywhere.

After qualifying for the Pepsi tournament’s round one competition held at Linbrook Bowl in March, she advanced to the next round in May con-tested at Fountain Bowl. While there she averaged nearly 200 for her six-game block and was number one in the entire state in her division.

For her awesome accom-plishment, she has earned the right to compete in the Nation-al Finals in Buffalo, New York this July. Linbrook Bowl will be hosting a fundraiser Singles No-Tap Tournament on Satur-day, June 14th at 1PM in hopes of raising enough money to be able to send Deanna and her mother to Buffalo.

The cost of this fundraiser tournament is $15 with all pro-ceeds going to finance this trip. Handicap will be 100% of 210 and there is an adult and a ju-nior division. There will also be a 50/50 and lots of prizes to be given away to some lucky participants.

In addition to this once in a lifetime trip, Deanna has also won a $1,200 scholarship. Linbrook Bowl is extremely proud of her and wish her the very best in Buffalo.

R E M E M B E R - - - - S AT-URDAY, JUNE 14TH, 2014 AT LINBROOK BOWL, 201 S. Brookhurst in Anaheim. Check in is 12:30PM with bowling at 1PM. Let’s all get together and support Deanna by bowling or if you do not wish to bowl, donations are always welcome! Tourna-ment flyers are available at the desk at Linbrook Bowl or call 714/774-2253 for more details.

The junior level is just the beginning and the USBC en-courages all associations to promote their youth programs. The Orange County USBC has an excellent youth board and is heavily involved in lo-cal, state and national levels, encouraging young bowlers to join a junior program at their local centers and to participate in tournaments. The schol-arshiop program is growing with an opportunity to engage in through college and who knows... the sky is the limit! Many of the pro bowlers you watch compete on TV started in a junior program. Most of all the centers in Orange County boast a good junior program, so parents, sign your kids up... Look at Deanna!!

Look forward to seeing y’all (kids & adults) join us a Linbrook Bowl for this very worthy cause.

GO DEANNA..............

JaT sport Junior recapGoar-geous Series for Chris

by David SchiadaNORWALK — When Chris Goar saw that the 45 foot Mexico

City pattern was on tap for last Saturday’s JAT Sport action at Keystone Lanes he gave us his honest opinion – “I don’t like it”.

After rolling an 809 for his four game series, I wonder if Chris has changed his mind. Chris opened with a 230 and then shot a new league high game of 235 on his way to recording a new league high series for the JAT Sport Juniors summer season.

Last week’s leader James Knapp continued to bowl well with a 772 series, including a 229 game. David Schneider rounds out the highlights from last week with a 736 series, including a 200 game.

The JAT Sport Juniors bowl at noon on Saturday’s at Key-stone Lanes. Youth bowlers interested in joining the JAT Sport Juniors summer league should contact Armando Zavala at (562) 896-4467.
