She first entered the picture when she asked management how to find books. There were lovely shelves and a few books but there wasn’t a system in place – and no money or staff to do it, so Louise nominated herself. The staff helped build more shelves, paid for a basket to collect returned books plus labels to alphabetize them…and Louise was off and running. “Our libraries became so busy that coming in once a week to sort books wasn’t enough so I asked for volunteers,” she said. “In fact the library was so busy and eventually there were so many books, that we began putting books at the Lodge Library as well.” Louise has excellent help from her volunteer staff Loraine Cass, Nancy Bouthilette, Dorothy Kurtz, Paula Jenkins, Lynda Leach, Arlene Beall, Diane Strandberg, Amy Wulf, Sharon Hulick, Karen Peterson, Paula Senger, Nadine Johnson, Marcia Probasco, Ann Wadsworth, Judy Craig, Carole Beduhn, Gail Beattie, Pat Zeiler, Joyce Johnson, Janice Mathews, Jan Culp, Sally Harman, Bonnie Merryfield, Kay Polemene, Chris Anderson, Noni Cockrum, Martha Simmons, Norma Hoptry … and are you ready for this? HP Families Host Symetra Tour Players By Jane Breisch [email protected] The Symetra Tour, the official “Road to the LPGA,” came to Cypress Lake Country Club in Fort Myers, April 28th to May 4th to play the inaugural Chico’s Patty Berg Memorial Tournament. Why Cypress Lake? The course has significance for the LPGA because it served as the home club for one of its 13 founders, Patty Berg. A longtime resident of Fort Myers, Berg joined the LPGATour in 1940 and enjoyed a decorated career, which included 60 wins and 15 Major Championship titles. She was the Tour’s leading money winner in 1954, 1955 and 1957. Berg’s impact in the game continued after her professional career ended. He, somewhat reluctantly, agreed to caddy for a Symetra Tour player and lands Min Seo Kwak. Who? The eventual winner of the Patty Berg Memorial Tournament, that’s who! Before the tournament began, John was hoping his assigned player might not make the cut so he could avoid walking 54 holes. Why? He last caddied as a teenager in Joliet, IL when he was 5’4” and weighed 108 lbs. ... he’s a little bigger now. He quickly changed his mind however, after caddying on day one. He discovered his player to be a delightful, quiet, 5’6”, 23 year old from Seoul, South Korea who loves to swim and play basketball.
