JULY 29th BREAK-IN AND BURGULARY On Friday of last week, we arrived at school to find we had been burgled! Three young men (their images caught on our cam- eras) entered the school by breaking into the office and rifled through drawers taking Ventolin sprays and other medicines. Sadly, we discovered later they had also stolen our $2,500 de- fibrillator from the First aid room. We purchased that unit a few years ago to have on hand in case of a heart emergency. After breaking into our school, they went onto another school in Knox taking similar items. Our thanks go to the police who ar- rived just after the alarms went off and hopefully the images of the men we supplied them with, help to bring them to justice. We would really appreciate it if neighbouring families could re- port any suspicious vehicles in nearby streets or strange activity within the school grounds after hours. Please call 000 or the Departments Emergency Management on 9589 6266. Please help protect our school and the equipment that benefits our stu- dents. PARKING WOES 1. Could I ask parents to not hoverin the middle of the car parking area parallel to Liverpool Road, which restricts the exiting of those who have parked correctly, and wanting to leave? 2. We also ask parents to please not to park on residentsna- ture strips in the streets opposite the school off Mountain highway. 3. We are currently working with traffic engineers from Knox Council to help us with the traffic flow in and around our school during drop offand pick uptimes. In the mean- time, we request everyone remain patient and courteous – we are trying our best! PARENT INTERVIEWS On Tuesday and Wednesday, parent interviews were conducted with the teachers. We were pleased to see such a strong inter- est in your childrens progress. The interviews are important for feedback both ways and teachers appreciate having this oppor- tunity. If you were unable to attend the specified interview times, but still have some concerns, please contact your class- room teacher and arrange a meeting. WHAT TO ASK MY CHILD WHEN THEY COME HOME FROM SCHOOL The way you ask your child questions about school really matters and determines the con-versation that you will have. Ask questions that are open-ended instead of questions that can be answered with a yes or a no. Think about open-ended positive questions that encour-age deep conversation. Try to avoid emotional words like sad, or mean, which can cause your child to stop talking. I used to ask my children every night about their day and some-times they responded with very limited conversation. I have since learnt, with my grand-children, that when I ask them a question like “How did you help someone today”, I was pleasantly surprised with the conversation that followed. Some questions you can ask: What was the best thing you did at school today? Who made you smile today? Did your teacher read a story in class today? What was your favourite part of the story? ONE TREE PER CHILD Tomorrow, 50 students will represent our school and walk to the George Grumont Reserve in The Basin to participate in the One Tree Per Child program. This initiative is to encourage children to be aware of the environment and the information they learn on the day will be incorporated into the curriculum. OUR SCHOOL LIFE Thank you to Marquita Telford and the Publicity Committee for the winter edition of Our School Life TBPS which went home with students yesterday. Graeme Russell WORKING BEE BIG THANKS Last weekend we had the biggest turnout of Working Bee helpers in a long time so a huge thank you to everyone who came along. Whether you were there for the full three hours or just 30 minutes, thanks for chipping in. Great to see so many new faces to add to the vet-erans and I am sure all the children who accompanied their parents had a wonderful day in spite of any initial grumbling. Special thanks to Steve, Kerry & John, Gilbert, Sarah, Helen & Rob, Daniel, Paul and Mr Goldie for their tireless rake, trimmers and barrow-work. Also Kate and Darryl for organ-ising it all and the sausage sizzle, which saw the day out. The next working bee has been scheduled on October 14th in term 4. Everyone welcome, it is a great way to connect with our school community. from Sasha Kober - Buildings & Grounds Committee
