CHURCH COVENANT

LEADER: Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior, and on the profession of our faith, hav-ing been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

CONG: We engage, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge, holi-ness and comfort; to promote its prosperity and spirituality; to sustain its worship, ordinances, dis-cipline, and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the ex-penses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel through all nations.

LEADER: We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to religiously educate our chil-dren; to seek the salvation of our kindred and ac-quaintances, to walk circumspectly in the world; to be just in our dealings, faithful in our engage-ments, and exemplary in our deportment; to avoid all tattling, backbiting, and excessive anger; and to be zealous in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.

CONG: We further engage to watch over one an-other in brotherly love, to remember each other in prayer; to aid each other in sickness and distress; to cultivate Christian sympathy in feeling and courte-sy in speech, to be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, and mindful of the rules of our Savior, to secure it without delay.

ALL: We moreover engage that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principle of God’s word. And now unto Him, who brought again from the dead, Our Lord Jesus, be Power and Glory forever. Amen.

Responsive Scripture The Lord’s Supper

1 Cor. 11:23-29

MIN: For I have received of the Lord that which also I deliv-ered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: CONG: And when he had given thanks he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me. MIN: After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he comes. CONG: Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. MIN: But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. ALL TOGETHER: For he that eateth and drinketh unworthi-ly, eateth and drinketh damnation of himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.
