God has an inheritance for us and there are enemies there!

Deuteronomy 7:1 "When the LORD your God brings you into the land that you are entering to take possession of it, and clears away many nations before you, the Hittites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations more numerous and mightier than yourselves,

What is in a name?

Hittites – TerrorGergashites – Dwelling on a clayey soilAmorites – To say, speak, or utterCanaanites – Humiliated, embarrassment or shamePerizzites – Belonging to a villageHivites – From a small placeJebusites – A threshing place

Joshua 3:10 And Joshua said, "Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites.

When God promises us an inheritance, we still have to qualify and enter in to the inheritance.

Israel did not possess all of their inheritance, and they allowed their enemies to stay.

Judges 1:27-36 ESV Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its villages, or Taanach and its villages, or the inhabitants of Dor and its villages, or the inhabitants of Ibleam and its villages, or the inhabitants of Megiddo and its villages, for the Canaanites persisted in dwelling in that land. (28) When Israel grew strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, but did not drive them out completely.

(29) And Ephraim did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them. (30) Zebulun did not drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, or the inhabitants of Nahalol, so the Canaanites lived among them, but became subject to forced labor. (31) Asher did not drive out the inhabitants of Acco, or the inhabitants of Sidon or of Ahlab or of Achzib or of Helbah or of Aphik or of Rehob, (32) so the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, for they did not drive them out.

(33) Naphtali did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, or the inhabitants of Beth-anath, so they lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless, the inhabitants of Bethshemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to forced labor for them. (34) The Amorites pressed the people of Dan back into the hill country, for they did not allow them to come down to the plain.

(35) The Amorites persisted in dwelling in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, but the hand of the house of Joseph rested heavily on them, and they became subject to forced labor. (36) And the border of the Amorites ran from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upward.

Proverbs 6:16-19 There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are an abomination to him: (17) haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, (18) a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, (19) a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who sows discord among brothers.

Having a lack of humility denies us God’s grace.

Proverbs 3:34 Toward the scorners he is scornful, but to the humble he gives favor.

James 4:6 But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, "God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble."

Proverbs 23:23 Buy truth, and do not sell it; buy wisdom, instruction, and understanding.

Galatians 5:24-25 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. (25) If we live by the Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit.

Song of Solomon 2:15 Catch the foxes for us, the little foxes that spoil the vineyards, for our vineyards are in blossom."

Are we going to deal with these enemies?

1. Haughty Eyes2. Lying Tongue3. Hands that shed innocent blood4. Hear that devises wicked plans 5. Feet that make hast to run to evil6. Fast witness who breathes out lies7. One who sows discord among brothers
