Spring is here! While my sinuses are full and heavy, my spir-it is light and full of anticipation. Spring means that color is re-emerging all over the place – colorful tight buds open into bursting bright blooms. There is more to delight the eyes – birds and squirrels and chipmunks are out and hopping around in the grass. There are more smells to entice our noses – the wafting fragrances of fresh blooms. The days are getting warmer and the sun is hanging with us longer and longer. The way we hold ourselves changes, from shoulders hunched bracing against the

cold, to an open chest, face turned toward the sun – storing up some of that much needed Vitamin D.

Your body is taking this all in: the weather is warm, the days remain lighter longer, the colors popping up outside, and the smell of the damp richness of the earth and all of this combines to make the whole world seem a more inviting place to be. Cre-ation calls out to us to linger together to be out in God’s beautiful natural order and commune with one another. It is time to delight in the discovery of snails crawling through our gardens, to sit and watch a ladybug fly through the air, to watch the de-light on a child’s face as they play with the myriad creatures of the earth and sky. It is time to reach our fingers once again down into the soft, rich soil and lovingly tend to this earth that sustains us. This time of year draws us back out of our hibernation and into community. The stage is set, the invitation is there, but we must allow ourselves the space and time to linger with friends and watch the colors of the sunset paint the sky with vibrant oranges and reds, and fade into luxurious magenta, violet and indigo.

As the earth awakens from its winter slumber, take time to see and appreciate the majestic beauty of this world we share. And seek out opportunities to linger with one another and see the richness and beauty of God’s beloved family reflected in each of us. Stop and breathe into your being the new life of spring!

We give you thanks, most gracious God, for the beauty ofearth and sky and sea; for the richness of mountains, plains,

and rivers; for the songs of birds and the loveliness of flowers. We praise you for these good gifts, and pray that we may

safeguard them for our posterity. Grant that we may continueto grow in our grateful enjoyment of your abundant creation,

Mustard Seed Garden Mark your calendars for our spring Dig Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 21, from 9-11 a.m. We hope you’ll join us as we harvest the remainder of the winter greens, clean up and refresh the beds, and set out the tender new plantlets that will miraculously grow into delicious summer vegetables for Clyde’s Kitchen at Crossroads. We’ll supply gardening tools and drinks. Bring gardening gloves, hat, and sunscreen. Many hands make light work! We hope you’ll join us on April 21.

Women’s Cancer Support Group meets Thursday, May 3 at noon in the Library. Bring your lunch if you like. This group is for women who are in treatment for cancer or are post-treatment. Please contact Meg Moye ([email protected] | 404-483-3711) if you plan to attend.

Announcements & Opportunities

In April we’re filling the Outreach Baskets with stick deodorant (Dove, Secret or Suave only please) for the Women’s Ministry at Arrendale State Prison, the largest women’s prison in Georgia. Its Chap-laincy Department has a variety of programs including worship, religious education, music, dance ministry, pastoral therapy groups, and ministry to inmates with mental health issues, postpartum issues, substance abuse issues, and chronic medical issues such as HIV, hepatitis C and cancer.

Adult Mindfulness Group to Start April 20

Are you experiencing high levels of stress and anxiety? Do

you get frustrated easily? Would you like to have more

meaningful experiences and connect with people on a deep-

er level? If so, sign up for the six-week Mindfulness Group

hosted by TACC, held on Fridays at 11 a.m. in the St. Luke

Room starting April 20. The class will be led by TACC Coun-

selor Matt Wagner, LPC. Class is open to anyone interested

in incorporating a Mindfulness practice in their lives - no

previous knowledge or experience necessary! Cost is $210

for the full six weeks. For more information or to register,

email Matt at [email protected], or call (404)

876-6266, ext. 2004.

Join us on Friday, April 13 to watch Prom-ised Land (2012), the story of corpo-rate sales partners Steve Butler and Sue Thomason who arrive in a small town to secure drilling rights for a natural gas company. They believe that the econom-ic decline has done their work for them

and that the townspeople will happily accept whatever offer they make. However, they don't consider the objections of a respected schoolteacher and the leader of a grassroots cam-paign against the company's objective.

Faith and Film is a monthly opportunity for St. Luke’s adults to share a movie, snacks, fellowship, and a lively discussion of issues of faith raised by the film. Those who attend bring a snack to share and a beverage. All St. Luke’s adults are wel-come. For location, contact Donna Church (404-522-3889 | [email protected]).

Weekly Bible Study resumes Wednesday, April 11 at 11 a.m. in the Parkins Room. During Easter, we’re studying the book of Ruth, an idealized story of what life would look like if God’s people treated

each other with His loving-kindness—insiders and outsiders alike. A key understanding in Ruth is that God uses these acts of the loving-kindness of people to demonstrate that which God gives to all, whether they realize it or not. All are welcome!

Director of Children, Youth and Families Ministries NamedOur prayers have been answered - St. Luke’s has a Director of Children, Youth and Family Ministries! Kristin Lennon began her ministry at St. Luke’s this month. Kristin, who grew up in Marietta and graduated from Georgia Tech, has worked with children and youth for more than a decade as a dance instructor, a math tutor, and youth group volunteer. She comes to St. Luke’s from Epiphany where she volunteered with the youth program. “I am delighted to join a community that honors children, youth, and families by incorporating them into liturgy and parish life wherever possible and that celebrates the playfulness and fearlessness that children bring,” Kristin says. “I was drawn to the St. Luke’s community because of its reputation for living out Christ’s mission in the most meaningful and transformational ways.” And, perhaps best of all, Kristin didn’t come alone: she has two boys! Pierce is five years old and Charles is three.

SUNDAY, APRIL 29 — ALWAYS . . . PATSY CLINE (ATLANTA LYRIC THEATER) — 2:30 PMAlways . . . Patsy Cline is based on a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in l961, and continued a corre-spondence with Cline until her tragic death at age 30. We have ten tickets available at $48.58 (senior/group rate). Additional people may join the group by purchasing tickets directly from the box office (404-377-9948). Be aware that this show could sell out early. We’ll probably do dinner after the show. The Atlanta Lyric Theater is in the Cobb Civic Center complex. Sunday Morning Adult EducationThe Sunday Papers | April 8 - May 13A free-flowing discussion about current events, faith and their intersection in our daily lives facilitated by Jonathan Serrie and Matt Boyer. Our discussions each week will be informed by scripture, national or local news sources. All views, thoughts and opinions are welcomed and encouraged.

Lectionary Bible Study | April 8 - May 13Explore God’s Word in the Scripture assigned for worship with seminarian Colin Brown. We all see the world through the filter of life experience and life transitions. This bible study is designed to engage us in a deeper exploration of biblical texts acknowledging the lens of life experiences we bring to that study. No preparation necessary. Drop in as you are able. This class invites you to come, engage the Scripture and respond to God’s word.

Prison Ministry: The Power of Presence and Prayer in the Midst of the Prison System | April 22The Rev. Donna Mote will be with us to discuss the various ways the Episcopal Church has been a real presence and voice on the issue of capital punishment in Georgia, including visits to death row and holding vigil at executions. The presen-tation will include Donna’s own story of grief and the justice system. On Sunday, April 29, the women’s prison choir “Voices of Hope” will offer their gifts of music during the 11:15 a.m. service.

Back to Basics: Music and Worship | April 29, May 6 and 13On three consecutive Sundays at 10:15 a.m., St. Luke’s renowned Music Director Dr. Arlan Sunnarborg will teach. Given his schedule on Sunday mornings, this is a rare opportunity to expand your musical knowledge with a true master of mu-sic. Individual descriptions for each session are online.

Musical Style Periods | Sunday, April 29 Just as a Renaissance painting of Michelangelo is distinctly different than an impressionistic masterpiece of Monet, so too musical style periods illuminate and enhance our understanding of the wide variety of reper-toire we experience in worship. Come discover!

The Psalms: Songs from Biblical Times | Sunday, May 6The psalms are the songs handed down to us from Biblical times. Through the ages, and at St. Luke’s, they have been sung in various ways. Come explore!

Hymns: The Heart of Music in Worship | Sunday, May 13The core of music in worship is hymn singing, and at St. Luke’s we keep alive a vast repertoire spanning some three millennia. Come appreciate!

Compass Class | May 6Calling all newcomers! Are you new to St. Luke’s and want to learn more about the church? Join us on 1st Sundays during the Sunday School hour in the Library for an informal time to meet new people and find out more about the mis-sion, programs, and ministry of St. Luke’s.

The People Behind Our Stained Glass Windows and Their Legacies | May 6Please join Bobby Mays and Neil Schemm for a walk through St. Luke’s history as they take a closer look at our beautiful stained glass windows and the legacies of those for whom they were dedicated and which sustain us to this day.

St. Luke’s began Lent with a goal of logging enough miles to make it to the Holy Land - 6,450 miles. The parish exceeded that in the first four weeks of Lent!

Our journey logged nearly ten thousand miles over the 40 days. That is a whole lot of activity! The final numbers can be found on the journey website at:

Thank you to everyone who participated!
