Why SMR is Important in Bangladesh perspective?

ROMU, AERE Slide # 9/95

Why?.......

•  Densely Populated cities

•  High Energy demand

•  Remote Areas

ROMU, AERE

Law that provides authority for nuclear security oversight

Ø Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Act

(BAER Act)-2012 Ø NPP Act

10

ROMU, AERE

Nuclear security regulator, regulations Ø  Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory

Authority (BAERA) is responsible for that

11

ROMU, AERE

Licensing Procedure Ø justification Ø Application Ø Fee Ø Safety & protection Ø Adequate financial resource Ø Trained Human resource Ø compliance

12

ROMU, AERE

Institutional Requirement

•  International Co-operation • Manpower development • Financial

ROMU, AERE

What we need in SMR

• Simplicity in design • Mass production capability • Lower Siting coast • Co-generation capability • Unattended Remote Operation ability • Easy Re-fuelling

ROMU, AERE

What Govt. thinking

• Firstly Focus on RNPP • After that PPP based SMR and others

Some Big companies of Bangladesh are very much interested to establish SRs in PPP basis

ROMU, AERE

Conclusion

To gain broad acceptance designers should strive to achieve high degree of public comfort.

ROMU, AERE

Thank you for your kind attention
