The Snack Shack : Volunteers Needed We have several shifts needing filling for the remainder of the term at The Snack Shack. If your child uses the canteen, they will enjoy seeing you there! Please contact the office if you would like to help out on any of these dates: Monday 23rd November lunch (12.15pm to 2pm) Wednesday 25th November recess (10am to 11.15am) Friday 27th November lunch (12noon to 2pm) Monday 30th November lunch (12.15pm to 2pm) Friday 4th December recess (10am to 11.15am) The Snack Shack Update Term 4 has proven busier than ever and I am really very pleased to see our students taking advantage of the healthier options available on our menu. Curly apples and quartered oranges are very popular along with the freshly made sandwiches and rolls. Thank you to all students who are placing the correct recyclable rubbish into the canteen tub. Our Foundation and Art students are reaping the benefits with clean yoghurt tubs, lids and spoons, which make wonderful pots, wheels and even arms! Remember, only the items which are too sticky or messy are to go into the tub. All other rubbish is to be saved and sorted into the bins in your classroom. A huge thank you to the volunteers who continue to support The Snack Shack - remember it wouldn't be able to be open without you. If any parents or carers missed out on the roster this term, there are a few vacancies which are listed above. Due to popular demand, orange juice has been introduced this week. Thank you, Ellie Hilton.

BFAC: dads who care Well the fete for 2015 is over and we would love to thank the almost twenty dads who worked hard to make the snags and burger stall the most successful at this year's fete. We were very busy, especially when the neighbouring food stall left in the morning !! Everyone worked long shifts and then got together and relaxed afterwards. A good day for the school and for the dads. And a shout out to Steve Marshall who moved his family back from Perth just to be able to help out! We would like to sincerely thank the fete organising committee and the school staff for all the help and support to make things run smoothly. Barefoot Beaumaris Bowls The next event for BFAC is Barefoot Beaumaris Bowls Friday November 27. Entry is a whopping $5 with beers at bar prices. More details to follow. We know it is a busy time of year but hope to see lots of dads. Please pass this on to all dads as we are most welcoming for new members! Jeremy and Sean

LEVEL LOW DOWN Foundation

Last Friday we supported Day for Daniel - Keeping Kids Safe. The Preps have learned 3 key words - recognise, react and report any potential unsafe situations. We discussed all types of emergencies and ringing 000 if needed. Please make sure your child learns their home address and the mobile phone number of one parent or carer. The Preps have also learned that it is a really good idea to have a family password. On Monday the Preps enjoyed using all their creative skills to make a fascinator or head piece for the Melbourne Cup. During maths we had a phantom horse race where we placed horses from 1st to 21st. Then we went over to watch out Year 6 buddies walk down a catwalk for 'Fashions on the Field' as they had worked in teams of three to produce wonderful 'newspaper' Melbourne Cup outfits.

Year One

On Friday the 30th of October our school supported Daniel Morcombe Day. We spoke about safety and how to keep ourselves safe. The key things we spoke about were: Knowing the names of five adults to call if you ever feel unsafe. These five adults should be a mixture of males,

females, family that live with you, family that don’t live with you and non-family members Understanding the signs of your body when it feels unsafe. Funny tummy, sweaty palms, fast beating hard, crying,

wobbly knees and hair standing up on its end Recognising and understanding why rules in the home are there to keep us safe. Not touching a hot stove, only

swimming in the pool if our parents are home, etc.

On Friday all Year 1 students filled out a hand template and wrote their five adult’s names in the fingers, drew our body parts that help us know when we are feeling unsafe or not quite right and everyone wrote and drew a rule in their home that is there to keep them safe.

Year Two Last week Christiana from 2C competed in a Deaf Athletics Day in Doncaster. The participants were hearing impaired primary school students from all over Melbourne. Christiana had great success! She came second in the 100m sprint and third in the long jump. Her favourite event was the shot put. Christiana had a great day competing and meeting new friends. B.P.S is very proud of you Christiana!

Year Six

In Year 6 this week we are starting our ERP proposals, students will analyse and explain psychological, social, cultural and economic reasons for food choices. In maths we are exploring the use of brackets and order of operations to write number sentences. In literacy we are continuing to participate in Literature Circles for reading and focus on the reading comprehension strategy comparing and contrasting. Students will publish their final copy of their explanation text. Good luck to the students participating in Hoop Time regional finals.

Year Four Year 4 students had a fabulous morning last Friday out in the kitchen garden with Wendy (one of our parents) and Tania from Bunnings and who very generously donated dozens of seedlings for us to plant. All our garden beds are full now with beautiful seedlings, and they grew significantly over the weekend due to all the rain. Some of our very dedicated boys spent the entire session demonstrating great resilience and persistence to assemble our new tumbling composter, as you can see from the photos below. We are looking forward to spending time out there watering, weeding and caring for our edible plants. We are very grateful to Wendy for all the time she puts in to planning and preparing for our weekly sessions. Today we had our last yoga session with Vic at Sanctuary and we send out a big thanks to Vic as we have loved our sessions over the last 3 weeks. Tonight is the night – we need to be back at school at 5.45pm for our Year 4 Performance Night. We are super excited to be performing for our families and special friends. After the performance you can collect us from the shade cloth near the canteen. We hope you enjoy the show!

Year Three Year 3 Health Expo Dear parents and students of Year 3 at Beaumaris Primary School, This term our subject focus is Health. Each student is required to pick an area of health (social, emotional, physical, environmental or spiritual) and a strategy that supports and promotes healthy living. e.g. Physical health – first aid; Mental health – meditation. On Friday 13th November, students will run a clinic group twice, either independently or in a small group, with parents and special friends to promote how to implement their strategy and why it is important. They will present this information on an A3 poster or booklet as well. The Expo will start at 8:45am with a healthy breakfast, provided by the students themselves – this will be discussed at school prior to the expo. The first clinic group will begin at 9:15. At 9:45, a whistle will blow, indicating it will be time to change over and begin the next clinic group. The expo will conclude at 10:30. Preparation for this Expo will be our homework for the next two weeks.

Year Five

This week Year 5 have been examining the role of work in our society. We have explored different jobs for different people and investigated the role of paid and unpaid work. In maths the students have loved exploring and creating different pattern puzzles. They created patterns with fractions, decimals and whole numbers and in pairs, made up rules to record a sequence of at least six numbers to share with the class. Students are half way through their LDG novels and are enjoying their weekly reading, role preparation and rich discussions that include character analysis, making connections and exploring vocabulary.
