IRM Monthly Progress Report Volume, 63 Issue: 10/18 , Oct, 2018

USAID - Pakistan Reading Project (PRP): PRP – Balochistan 68 QTIG Meetings (Cohort-1), 67 QTIG Meetings (Cohort-2) and 161 Monthly TIG Meetings (Cohort-3) were conducted during the month of October 2018. 273 School support visits were conducted under Cohort -3 by SSAs while 268 School support visits were conducted under Cohort -3 by Mentors. A 7 day TLM review workshop was held at IRM office Islamabad. A total 05 participants (5 men) attended the workshop who reviewed

and revised Grade 4-5 Urdu language textbooks. These books were further submitted for final review, NOC and printing. The Students Performance Monitoring Tool for grade 1 (quarter-1) was also administered in cohort-III districts. A total of 290 schools (104 hosts, 186 members) and 1,724 students (953 boys & 771 girls) were assessed in six districts of cohort III.

PRP - FATA:

Under component 1, staff was oriented on revised SSV and TIG meeting formats and they also discussed Modules 7, 8, 9 and 10 (Phase – II) (Bajaur and Mohmand). Group discussions were conducted on TLMs for Grade-II (Bajaur and Mohmand) and mock exercises on TIG Meetings and SSVs were also organized. Activities under component 2 included: conduction of orientation sessions on student’s formative assessment using Tangerine for staff members (APMs, SSAs and

M&E Assistants) of Bajaur, Orakzai and Kurram Districts. A total number of 27 staff members (21 men and 6 women) were oriented on tools and techniques of student’s formative assessment. Furthermore, a 5-days study tour was also organized for Government officials and PRP FATA staff to Baluchistan Province. The major objective was to orient them on reading initiatives in other provinces/ regions.

Sindh Union Council and Community Economic Strengthening Support Project (SUCCESS): IRM is implementing the three year EU/NRSP funded SUCCESS project in four Districts of Sindh (Matiari, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Sujawal.) During the month of October, 14 participants graduated in Car Driving, 11 in Machine Embroidery, 11 in Home Based Live Stock Farming, 16 in Applique Work, 16 in Domestic Tailoring, 43 in Commercial Poultry Management, 17 in Adda

Work, 13 in Plumbing Work, 27 in Hand Embroidery and 45 in Dress Designing Advance Training. Mr. Anwar Ul Haq also monitored the the ongoing field training in all four districts and held meetings with the field staff. He also met with NRSP RGM-Hyderabad regarding the progress of the project.

VTEC Rawalpindi:

During the month of October, 14 (self-financed) trainees graduated in advanced

tailoring, basic tailoring, computer graphics and computer software training trades.

Punjab Youth Workforce Development Project (PYWD): IRM in partnership with Louis Berger is currently implementing this USAID funded project in Southern Punjab. The main objective of this project is to enhance the capacity of the selected rural youth beneficiaries from Districts Multan, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh and Bahawalpur, through market driven technical and vocational trainings and apprenticeship programme to generate monthly income at house hold level as well as capacity building of local public TVET institutes. During the month of October

150 participants graduated in Entrepreneurship Training & 25 participants graduated in Day Care Attendant, 20 in Car Driving, 25 in Chester Making & 25 in Chunnri Making under this project. Identification of Training Institutes for ICB, detailed Gap Assessments of shortlisted Institutes and development of ICB Plans for all 21 Institutes is complete. Other activities included coordination with BISP and LB teams to establish field based vocational training centers.

IRM Sindh: SEF-AALTP (Learning & Training Components):

This project aims to provide accelerated formal primary education for vulnerable adolescents and basic functional literacy for adults together with a certified skill development vocational training course for each learner, enabling them with varying opportunities of human capital development and socio economic growth. During the month of October, the Skill Development Component training

preparation plan was submitted to SEF. A meeting was also held with the Regional Manager - SEF Mirpurkhas to discuss the two new AALTP centers establishment costs, its agreement and pending issues. Future plans include the initiation of AALTP Skill Component in 6 centers of districts Jamshoro & Mirpurkhas and enrollment & registration of new adult learners in all AALTP centers.
