MIP was created 28 years ago out ofa partnership between thePolitecnico di Milano and someleading businesses and institutionsoperating in Italy, and:

it has as its objective the Innovationin Business Management and PublicAdministration;

it reports to the ManagementEngineering Department of thePolitecnico, where most of its facultycome from and with which it formsthe School of Management;

by taking advantage of thecooperation between the academicelements, the businesses and theinstitutions, it wants to promote high-level activities in the post-graduateand/or post-working experiencetraining fields and to monitor thedemands of qualified skills.

Being part of the Politecnico, MIPpays particular attention totechnology (particularly up-and-coming technology) because of therole it plays in innovation. HoweverMIP itself does not deal withtechnology. From its engineeringtradition it has inherited an analyticalapproach to problems - particularlyimportant in the complex contexts

aiming to train managers, executivesand other high-potential staff fromthese institutions.

In the last few years MIP has growna lot thanks to strength coming fromits enlarged faculty and its productportfolio. It continues to attractengineers, but it increasingly attractsgraduates from other areas(principally Economics). We wantMIP to keep growing and to remain atthe forefront of new topics, in order tosignificantly contribute to ourcountry's development.

By 1889, KSN hadbecome the largest school in thestate and the largest normal schoolin the country. The school was firstaccredited in 1898, the same year itgraduated its first black students. That same year, the SpanishAmerican War interrupted thecourse of the school year. The pursuit of a legal educationrequires significant time and resources, and deciding where to apply to lawschool can be as challenging as thestudy of law itself. Our office ofadmissions will help you make thisimportant decision that will impact yourfuture career as well as your personallife.

The LL.M. degree awarded by theSchool of Law is a single degreeconsisting of five tracks, allowing forcurricular concentrations in the areasdescribed. The School of Law does notaward multiple LL.M. degrees withdesignated specialties.

The five tracks offered within the LL.M.degree are:

teaches them how to solve a specificlegal problem, say intellectualproperty law or internationalbusiness. Yet, this is only one side ofthe coin. LL.M. applicants shouldalso look for a program with anexcellent legal research and writingcurriculum.

In weighing your options, you shouldlook for LL.M. legal research andwriting programs that have thefollowing features: (1) electronicdatabase research and citationtraining, (2) individualized writingworkshops, (3) an approachablewriting instructor or writing center, (4)teaches how to research and writelegal briefs or memos, and (5)teaches how to research and write anacademic legal research paper.

Electronic database research traininginvolves training in Lexis andWestlaw. Almost all law schools havean agreement with both Lexis andWestlaw for the companies to providefree research training for theirstudents at the law school and freeaccess to both online researchdatabases while the student is in lawschool. The program should also

Every year, LL.M. applicants fromvarious parts of the world struggle tomake a complex decision: what is thebest LL.M. program for me? Thisdecision involves asking numerouscomplex questions about affordability, location, and a law school'scurriculum. Most often, however,LL.M. applicants forget to ask themost important questions: (1) whatdo lawyers do, and (2) whichprogram will teach me or help me toimprove to do what lawyers do?

As a lawyer and having taught at theLL.M. program at Case WesternReserve University School of Law forthe past five years, I often find thatLL.M. applicants often do not know orforget what it is that lawyers reallydo. Lawyers solve problems andlawyers write about how to solveproblems. Most LL.M. applicants mayfocus their search for a program that

teach students how to properly citelegal documents. Citations teachstudent to pay attention to detail, which is a critical lawyering skill.

Individualized workshops areimportant simply because most LL.M.programs will be composed ofstudents from various countries. Theresearch and writing center shouldbe able to make suggestions to astudent based on individual need. Astudent from Saudi Arabia will havedifferent writing concerns than astudent from Thailand, and LL.M.legal writing instructors should tailortheir workshops accordingly. Thishelps when the writing instructor orwriting center is approachable. Thestudent should be able to ask theinstructor questions about researchand writing whenever there is one.

An LL.M. writing program should alsoteach both the academic legalresearch paper and the legal brief. Most schools only teach one or theother. Yet, each is a different genre oflegal writing that requires a differentskill to master. The academicresearch paper teaches studentshow to be a scholar, which is anongoing role tied to the responsibilityof an attorney to engage in adialogue about the law. The legalbrief, on the other hand, teachesstudents how to make arguments, support arguments with relevantauthorities, how to structurearguments, how to tell persuasivestories, and others. The legal brief isalso the best method to trainstudents to use the CRAC system, the standard rhetorical structure forU.S. legal writing, including lawschool exams.

Before making a final decision, don'tforget that lawyers are writers, andwriting is perhaps the most importantskill you must learn as a lawyer.

that would provide a comprehensivemodern learning facility for studentswho aspire to become highly skilled, compassionate physicians and nurses, who plan to practice throughoutCanada, the United States and theCaribbean region. This realizationwould have been hard to imagine inJanuary 2004 when the school firstopened its doors with a handful ofstudents. Today, AUA is a growing andvibrant medical school with over 1,700students, a brand new School ofNursing, and a brand new $60 milliondollar campus (under construction).

AUA's program is designed to makesure that students meet the necessaryrequirements of medical and nursinglicensure in the United States. Inaddition, our curriculum ensures thatstudents receive an education similarto the finest medical and nursingschools in the U.S. AUA is uniquebecause it is the only hospital-integrated medical school in theCaribbean with a medical educationprogram based on U.S. schoolcurriculum that incorporates hospitalexperience. AUA will prepare its students toachieve passing scores on the U.S.Medical Licensing Examinations andNCLEX and will also provide clinicalclerkship opportunities in some of thebest teaching hospitals in the U.S. Wehave affiliations with over 20 teachinghospitals where students will completetheir clinical training -- and the numberis constantly growing. These hospitalsare located throughout the U.S. andPuerto Rico.

There are only a few states in theU.S. that require approval forinternational medical schools. Althoughless than 5 years old, the AUAprogram is proud to be one of ahandful that has been approved by theState of New York, giving our studentsthe option to complete their clinicaltraining and residencies at NY State-approved hospitals.

While primarily dedicated to teachingmedicine, the University also feels aresponsibility to direct resources tocontinuing research in areas that willdirectly impact human health. college affiliated to the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca.

In May 1990 a decree of the RomanianGovernment established the Technical Universityof Oradea, later called the University of Oradea, and based on impressive traditions of academiclife in the town. It was an act of scientific andcultural restoration long expected in the life of theRomanian society, a major gain of the people'sRevolution of December 1989, one of the greatestRomanian achievements in Crisana after the GreatUnion on 1 December 1918. This is how the dreamof several generations of scholars came true, clearly expressed by a historian of Oradea: "Asregarding the future, the desire of all well-meantRomanians is to establish in Oradea a completeuniversity, the lights of which will shine across theentire western border of Romania".

Today, the University of Oradea is an integratedinstitution of higher education of this kind, comprising 18 faculties.

The mission of the University of Oradea is to trainand educate on a large scale both the studentsand also the high education graduates, as well asto approach certain domains of science andtechnology at high level.

The structure of the University contains academiceducation, postgraduate education and scientificresearch.

The University of Oradea expanded itself bydeveloping new faculties and research teams, aswell as by developing certain specializations insidethe existing faculties.

Inside the University of Oradea the education andresearch activity is developing in the area ofnatural and physical sciences, as well as in thearea of social and human sciences, covering thefollowing: Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry,Sciences of Life, Agricultural Sciences, MedicalSciences, Technological Sciences, EconomicalSciences, Geography, History, Juridical Sciencesand Law, Linguistics, Pedagogy, Political Sciences,Psychology, Letters and Arts, Sociology,Philosophy. The educational process is based onthe curricula for long term studies, short termstudies, postgraduate's studies, master, doctoralstudies and programs of continuous education andDistance Open Education.

In the past years, the University of Oradea has er

Oradea City is situated in the North West ofRomania and stretches on the both banks of theCrisul Repede river.

The traditions of higher education in Oradea, metaphorically speaking, go back to timeimmemorial. This year (2008) there are 228 yearssince the inauguration of higher education inOradea and 44 years of continuous highereducation in Oradea.

At the end of the 18th century, "a higher institutionfor philosophic teaching" is founded in Oradea in1780, which was to become in 1788 the Faculty ofLaw, the oldest faculty not only within theRomanian borders but also in a vast region ofEastern Europe.

After 1921, all the courses at the Law Faculty weretaught in Romanian. In 1923, the foundation of twotheological academies gave new dimensions tothe academic life in Oradea.

The Law Academy of Oradea, together with thetwo theological academies, was to make anotherstep forward by integrating a faculty of letters, thusachieving the old desideratum of creating aUniversity of Crisana in Oradea. But in 1934,under inauspicious circumstances and after 150years of longstanding activity, the Law Faculty -the academic nucleus of Oradea - is transferred toCluj.

After a thirty-year break in the activity of the LawAcademy of Oradea, on 1 October 1963, an orderof the Ministry of Education established in Oradeaa 3-year Pedagogic Institute meant to do awaywith the scarcity of teachers in secondaryeducation. The new institution of higher educationbegan its activity with two faculties: Philology andMathematics-Physics, and a year later other twofaculties (History-Geography and PhysicalEducation) were added. One by one, the newsections obtained an academic status until 1983,when due to a poor educational policy, the didacticand Humanist specialization diminished theiractivity, and from a prosperous institution of highereducation, Oradea turned into an engineering

been involved in a process of dynamicdevelopment, thus becoming a higher educationinstitution at a European standard both due to itsnumerous partnerships with universities worldwideand the committed teaching staff, and the topequipment it provides.

The great number of students coming fromabroad, who have chosen our university tocomplete their BA, MA, or doctoral studies, as wellas the students from Oradea, who benefit from theLifelong Learning Program (which includes sub-programs such as: Erasmus, Leonardo da Vinci,Grundtvig, and Jean Monnet) funded by theEuropean Union support this opening.

The University of Oradea adopted the EuropeanSystem of Transferable Credits, facilitating thedidactical process.

We all have to admit that there is no other financialor real estate investment more profitable forstudents. Education itself will always be the bestlong-term investment, as nothing is as precious asthe knowledge gained during academic instruction.

Foreign students who want to enroll in theUniversity of Oradea must submit their 2 sets ofdocuments with the application for admissionsdirectly to the Department for InternationalRelations, Office for Foreign Students Thesedocuments are necessary for the Letter ofAcceptance issued by the Ministry of Educationand Research.

outside the UK, namely those who offerUK higher education qualifications orinstitutions which are the overseasbranch(es) of a UK-based college.

Allowing some international institutionsto apply for BAC accreditation was inno way a relaxation of the accreditationprocess, as international institutionsare still subjected to the same rigorouscriteria and inspection procedureswhich apply within the UK.International institutions accredited bythe BAC now number 29 and can befound throughout the European Union, and in such diverse countries asPakistan, India, and the United ArabEmirates. The BAC's internationalactivities also include fostering closelinks with other national accreditingbodies and representing the UKindependent sector within theInternational Network of QualityAssurance Agencies in HigherEducation (INQAAHE).

On the international front the BAC'swork has recently taken on a new roleafter the Council was named by the UKBorder Agency as one of only fouragencies in the UK “approved for thepurposes of accrediting privateeducation providers involved in therecruitment of international studentsunder the new points based system”.Although this has meant greaterresponsibility for the Council in practicethe accreditation and inspectionprocedures have remained largelyunchanged, and the underlying goal ofensuring and promoting quality in theUK private education sector stillprevails.

The recent overhaul of the UKimmigration system has, however, shown an increased need for BACcolleges to communicate with eachother in order to keep abreast of rapiddevelopments in immigration policy andall other matters affecting the privateeducation sector. As a result anassociation of BAC-accredited collegeswas formed earlier this year under thetitle of Study UK. As the namesuggests, Study UK will exist in closepartnership with English UK which isthe membership association for theUK's British Council accredited English

In June 2009 the British AccreditationCouncil (BAC) will celebrate its 25Anniversary as the principal non-EFLregulatory body for the independentfurther and higher education sector.

At the time of the BAC's establishmentthere was no formal system ofaccreditation for the private sectorwhich caused concern amongst bodiessuch as the British Council andUKCOSA (now the UK Council forInternational Student Affairs). As aresult the BAC was formed to providesuch a system, and through thisaccreditation process to improve andenhance the standards of independentfurther and higher educationalinstitutions in the UK. BAC-accreditedcolleges in the UK now number 265,providing a wealth of academicprogrammes: vocational andprofessional qualifications; foundationcourses for university entry; andexternally validated degree courses.

Institutions applying for accreditationwith the BAC undergo a three-stageinspection process which, ifsuccessfully completed, results inaccreditation being granted for fouryears. During this four year periodinstitutions will also undergo an interiminspection and may be subjected to aspot-check if circumstances, such as achange in ownership, leadership orpremises, require it. The areas ofassessment covered in an inspectionleading to full, four year accreditationinclude Premises and Health & Safety,Management and Staffing, StudentWelfare, Management of Quality, andTeaching and Learning. In order to helpinstitutions be successful in their initialapplication for accreditation and todevelop their provision subsequently,BAC offers a series of seminarscovering the application process ingeneral and some of the more specificareas of assessment such as Health &Safety.

Whilst BAC's focus has always beenprimarily the UK private educationsector, in recent years the Council'swork has become progressively moreinternational in its scope. In 2000 thedecision was taken to extend eligibilityfor accreditation to certain institutions

thlanguage schools.

The formation of Study UK is anotherlink in the close relationship betweenBAC and the British Council and theaccreditation schemes of bothagencies. Although BAC does notaccredit institutions which are solely orpredominantly providers of English as aForeign Language (EFL), it doesinspect colleges which offer EFLprogrammes alongside non-EFLprovision. Institutions which areinspected by the British Council'sAccreditation UK scheme can thereforeapply for accreditation with the BACunder a top-up arrangement whichrecognises that there are several areasof overlap within the respectiveinspection regimes. Through links withbodies such as the British Council, theBAC provides its institutions withaccess to a worldwide network ofeducation providers and a range ofpromotional opportunities.

In terms of future developments theBAC is working to strengthen itsinternational profile whilst ensuring thatthe primary role of ensuring quality inthe UK private education sector isnever neglected. In order for the UK toretain its position as a major player inthe worldwide education market itsprivate education sector must continueto be closely monitored whilst beingallowed to flourish as providers ofeducation for a range of students, whether international or UK based, forwhom university may not be the rightoption. The BAC will remain at theforefront of the UK private educationsector during this period of challengeand opportunity and will continue totake forward the reputation of UKeducation on a global stage.
