2) According to the Regulations for Student Enrollment of the College of Education, the acceptance rate of

international students cannot exceed 10% of the admission quota, and only available for freshman intake.

3) Applicants who apply as an International Freshman (where both the applicant and applicant’s parents are

of non-Korean nationality) may select a first-choice major and second-choice major.

3. Eligibility and Requirements

A. Nationality/Academic Requirements

1) Freshman Students

- Applicants must meet one of the following Nationality/Academic requirements below

a. Both the applicant and the applicant’s parents are of non-Korean nationality. The applicant must have

completed (or is expected to complete) regular secondary education.

b. An applicant of non-Korean nationality who has completed regular primary and secondary education

outside of Korea. (Non-Korean applicants with Korean parent(s))

2) Transfer Students

- Applicants must meet one of the following Nationality/Academic requirements below

a. Both the applicant and the applicant’s parents are of non-Korean nationality. The applicant must

have completed regular secondary education and at least two full academic years (four semesters)

in a degree program at a regular four-year university or in an equivalent Bachelor’s degree program.

Transfer students will be admitted as junior (third-year) students.

b. An applicant of non-Korean nationality who has completed regular primary and secondary education

and at least two full academic years (four semesters) in a degree program at a regular four-year

university or in an equivalent bachelor’s degree program outside of Korea. Transfer students will be

admitted as junior (third-year) students (Non-Korean applicants with Korean parent(s)).

※ In the case of two or three-year colleges, only those applicants who have graduated (or are expected

to graduate) from a regular school curriculum can apply to transfer.

※ Notes about Nationality

❍ Nationality is determined at the time of application.

❍ Korean citizens who hold dual citizenship are ineligible to apply as foreign students.

❍ Applicants (and their parents) of Korean origin must submit documents to verify their loss of Korean

citizenship.

The loss of Korean citizenship has to be specifically noted on the document.

(Family Relation Certificate, Proof of the Loss of Korean Citizenship, Family Census Register and etc.)

❍ In a case where the applicant's parents are divorced, the applicant’s nationality eligibility is determined

by the nationality of the legal father or mother.

B. Language Proficiency Requirements (for both freshman and transfer students)

- Submit one or more of the following documents:

1) A certificate from the Korean Language Program at Korea University

2) A certificate in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)

3) Certificate of Korean proficiency (other than 1 and 2 above)

4) A standardized English proficiency test score: TOEFL, TEPS, IELTS (note: TOEIC is not accepted)

5) Exceptions are made for applicants whose language proficiency meet qualifications 1 through 4 or

those who are native speakers of Korean or English.

※ Notes about Language Proficiency

❍ Admitted applicants who have not achieved Level 4 or above in the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK)

at the time of their admission must achieve Level 4 or above in the TOPIK before their graduation.

C. Qualification for Examination Standard

1) Only schools outside of Korea are considered foreign schools. International schools located in Korea

are not included.

2) Qualification exams both in and outside of Korea, homeschooling, online courses, language schools,

etc. from primary, secondary to higher education are not accepted as regular school curriculum.

4. Application Procedures

A. How to Apply: Online Application (http://oia.korea.ac.kr)

Applicants can complete the application and document submission via mail, or in person, only when the

online submission is inaccessible.

B. Admission Criteria: Based solely on documentation

When the documents are submitted, an evaluation for selection will take place based on the applicant’s

academic ability, aptitude for one’s field of interest, language proficiency, academic and extra-curricular

activities, etc. However, an interview or skill test may be conducted based on one’s field of study. In this

case each applicant will be notified with additional detailed guidelines.

C. Admission Process

② No modification, withdrawal or refund of the application fee is allowed after the registration

payment is made. Please read the application carefully before submitting it. However, the full or

partial registration fee may be refunded in the case that students are unable to take the

examination under extenuating circumstances such as natural disaster, disease, accidents or when

the applicant is grossly underqualified. The refund process may include preparing a refund

application form along with supporting documents.

③ Successful applications may be confirmed by printing off the proof of application. Application form,

self-introduction, study plan, the cover of envelope may be printed off at an online application

agency service.

★ The self-introduction and study plan must be submitted by the deadline. Modifications or entering

additional information afterwards is not allowed.

6. Additional Notes for All Applicants

A. Important Notes for Submission

1) The application form, self-introduction and study plan must be submitted online, printed out and

also submitted together with the other documents via mail or in person. Submission of the online

documents via mail or in person will be accepted only when the online submissions are inaccessible

(please find the designated forms from OIA website). In this case, the application fee payment and

documents submission must be completed within the application period.

2) Applicants must submit originals of all supporting documents. If originals cannot be submitted, copies

must be checked against the original certificate either by the issuing organization, the school the

applicant is now attending, or the Registration Office at Korea University (International Education Team,

#301 Dongwon Global Leadership Hall) upon submission.

3) Any documents written in foreign languages (other than Korean or English) must be translated into, or

notarized in Korean or English.

4) Admission may be rescinded if the applicant submits falsified materials or makes inaccurate statements.

Any admission based on falsified documents or statements will be rescinded even if it is discovered

after admission is granted.

5) Application documents such as transcripts and certificates must be certified from the issuing institutions.

6) In the case of early graduation, skipped grades, loss of transcripts, or loss of records of enrollment

either in Korea or outside Korea, applicants must submit appropriate statements of explanation from

relevant personnel.

7) If the applicant’s name does not match on all documents, the applicant must submit proper certification

to prove that they are the same person.

8) If an applicant’s family relationship needs to be confirmed (parent’s divorce, parents’ death and etc.),

and in the case that he renounced/has lost Korean citizenship, the applicant must submit authenticating

documents.

9) In the case when applicants report their scores directly to Korea University, they must write down the

date of birth, English name, and the date of the exam so that it can be included in evaluation materials.

※ Applicants can check the arrival of the reports at the website of Korea University Admissions Office

10) Successful applicants who are prospective graduates or completion graduates (those attending school

during submission) must submit a Certificate of Completion or diploma to the International Education

Team, Korea University (#301 Dongwon Global Leadership Hall) before admission.

11) Applicants falling under the eligibility of a ‘non-Korean applicant with Korean parent(s)’ must submit

a certificate showing all entry and exit records (from date of birth to date of submission) which is

issued in three months from the application’s submission. Admission may be disadvantaged or

rescinded if the submitted materials contain false information or if entry/exit records cannot be verified

because of the use of dual passports.

12) In cases where applicants encounter difficulty in obtaining Certificate of Entry and Exit Records directly,

applicants may ask a third party living in Korea to obtain it with a copy of the applicant’s passport, a

power of attorney, and an application form. (Immigration Office Contact: ☎+82-1345)

B. Important Notes for All Applicants

1) Admitted applicants falling under the eligibility of a ‘non-Korean applicant with Korean parent(s)’ for

spring semester 2016 cannot apply to Korea University and other universities’ fall semester intake in 2016.

2) Applicants falling under the eligibility of a ‘non-Korean applicant with Korean parent(s)’ can apply up

to a maximum of six times per year for non-scheduled admissions including admissions for international

students. Any submitted applications violating this limit will be cancelled and admission offers will be

forfeited.

3) Applicants can apply to the first round or the second round for the 2016 spring semester’s admission.

However, admitted applicants in the first round may not apply for the second round. Applicants who

failed in the first round and apply for the second round again must complete the online application

and submit all the documents again. (The first round and second round are counted as one application

each in non-scheduled admissions which is limited to six times for a ‘non-Korean applicant with Korean

parent(s)’).

4) Evaluation scores for admission will not be disclosed.

5) We may contact applicants individually by phone for additional documents, if necessary.

6) Exact contact telephone numbers and email addresses must be provided so that applicants can be

reached immediately in case of emergency or for admission announcement. Korea University is not

responsible for any circumstances that might result from incorrect contact information provided on the

application such as failure for the applicant to receive contact from the university.

7) The application fee and all submitted documents will not be returned to applicants.

8) Admitted applicants must deposit the registration fees or the full tuition fees within the designated

period to confirm their registration. If enrollment is not completed by the designated period,

acceptance offers will be cancelled.

- If the applicant has registered (including payment of registration fees) in more than two universities

(including Industrial University, College of Education, and Technical College) in Korea which have the

same admission period, acceptance offers will be cancelled.

9) Other details regarding the application process and review will be determined by the Admissions

Assessment Committee according to the Admissions Regulations.

10) Guidance of Consular Authentication/Apostille Submission

① Admitted students falling under the eligibility of a ‘non-Korean applicant with Korean parent(s)’ in

the 2016 spring semester international admission.

② Applicable documents: Transcripts, Certificates of Enrollment, Certificates of Graduation from

overseas Primary to Secondary Schools and Colleges (transfer students), Statement of Extenuating

Circumstances (if applicable).

③ How to submit: Applicants must receive the Consular Authentication from a consulate in the region

where they studied or Apostille from a designated agency.

④ Deadline: Feb. 5th(Fri), 2016

※ If applicants do not submit the Consular Authentication/Apostille by the deadline, their admission

may be cancelled.

※ Official documents issued by the overseas Korean schools accredited by the Ministry of Education,

Republic of Korea do not need the Consular Authentication/Apostille.

※ Please refer to the ‘Important Notice for Admitted Students’ after the admission announcement for

further information.

2. Diverse Options for Majors/Minors

A. Required (choose 1)

1) Double Major: Fulfill graduation requirements for the first major as well as for the second major in

another department

2) Interdepartmental Major: Fulfill graduation requirements for the first major and complete a course

combined from at least two different academic fields

3) Student Designed Major: Fulfill graduation requirements for the first major as well as the major that is

designed by the student with the help of an academic adviser.

4) Advanced Major: Fulfill graduation requirements for the first major and earn extra credits in the same

department

1) Dual Degree: Complete eight semesters of study in the first major and then pursue a second major for
