Our ambition is to consolidate our position as one of Europe’s leading

providers of functional software solutions

Intelligent Transport Solutions Hogia Transport Systems is today the fastest growing business sector in the Hogia Group with 150 employees in the Nordic countries and United Kingdom. Customers include the six largest transport authorities in the Nordic region, 500 freight and shipping companies in Sweden and Norway, 28 intermodal port and land based terminals in Great Britain, Canada and Sweden, and 21 ferry companies across 6 continents.

The development, marketing and support of software for the transport sector currently represent a third of the Hogia Group’s total operations. Relations within this sector are consequently vital to us. The Hogia Transport Systems strategic business unit comprises of a number of wholly owned subsidiaries focused on different types of traffic and transport. Over the past ten years, we have invested a total of € 50 million in the development of a series of real time systems for this sector. As a result, Hogia is in the unique position to offer integrated solutions across the transport sectors. Unlike any other European software company, we have built up our own software and knowledge in four areas; public transport, ferry, transportation of goods, and terminal systems.

Standard software and open interfacesThe core of Hogia Transport Systems’ business is a range of standard software for cargo handling and passenger transport. Our software is continuously developed to meet the ever-growing requirements from our customers. We provide our own software for ferry booking, public transport management and terminal operations management at sea terminals and rail terminals, as well as transport planning for hauliers and other logistics operators.

The open, well-documented interfaces to our standard software make it possible for a large network of partners to supply complementing software. Therefore, in collaboration with our partners, we are able to provide solutions that are closely accommodated to each customer’s specific needs.

A unique range of productsNo other European software company can supply the same range of standard software for the transportation sector. Each of our solutions has been developed over time, in some cases 15–25 years. Consequently, our products are well proven and customized to their intended use.

Hogia Transport Systems’ current venture is to provide interconnected solutions. This will allow easy information exchange between different transport links. With Hogia’s broad portfolio of logistics systems, we are in a unique position in having the ability to add value to complex and integrated transport solutions. Through thinking realistically ’out-of-the-box’, Hogia staff are able to draw together a wide range of multi-modal and multi-disciplinary knowledge and understanding from within the transport industry. For example, multimodal freight solutions which transcend road, rail, and sea transport; through terminal handling; to warehouse management – and multi-modal passenger travel management solutions which also transcend road, rail, and sea transport to deliver highly integrated, real-time, multi-modal network management, network operations, and traveller information & booking solutions.

Our ambition is to consolidate our position as one of Europe’s leading providers of functional software solutions – not only for individual transport types, but also to an increasing extent, for varying combinations of transport and handling.

Premier supplier of ferry booking systemsHogia is a world-leading provider of standard software solutions for the management of bookings and administration for ferry and sea freight operators.

Hogia achieved this market leading position by continuously developing their systems BOOKIT over the last three decades, in close collaboration with their customers. Hogia Ferry Systems work with 22 operators, spread across 6 continents (from west coast Canada to eastern Australia), handling over 800 departures per day.

Aside from standard functionality to handle bookings, sales, payment, check-in, embarkation, financial routines, CRM and Data Warehousing for ferry companies. BOOKIT has a fully comprehensive API, and over 70 additional tools and features to help the operator; e.g. loyalty programmes, travel cards, yield management and many many more.

Integration case studyIn 2014, ferry operator Red Funnel, a long-time customer of Hogia, chose to improve their customers’ experience by integrating and implementing Hogia’s Hogia Traveller Information Management System, TIMS.

TIMS helps Red Funnel to distribute real-time passenger information across multiple channels, targeting customers directly affected by operational changes. Consistent information is displayed on the terminal departure boards, on the Red Funnel website, distributed to subscribing members of the public via SMS, pushed to Twitter and distributed to staff via internal email.

Red Funnel’s user interface has been enhanced with the seamless integration between Bookit and PubTrans requiring service changes, actions and disruption information to be entered only once and carried through the whole system.

Additionally, Red Funnel’s vessel timing application has been integrated with Hogia PubTrans, via a standard SIRI-VM interface providing Red Funnel with the ability to display up to the minute delay information on public facing screens at the terminals and on their web site.

Red Funnel carries both daily commuters, tourists and commercial traffic to the Island throughout the year – TIMS allows all passengers to stay up-to-date with service information in real-time.

Terminal Operating System to optimise operationHogia provides solutions that increase efficiency at ports and terminals. Each solution has a flexible design, making it suitable for large ports as well as smaller terminals. The system is able to manage transports by sea, rail and road in relation to the terminal and can handle transitions between different modes of transport as data can be transferred in real time between different operators.

Besides financial and environmental benefits, an efficient Terminal Operation System (TOS) also creates space for organisational growth and development and improves the readiness for differentiations in goods volumes.

About 30 sea and rail terminals in Northern Europe and Canada use the system today with customers like the port of Trelleborg, Marine Atlantic, Jernhusen and Bring.

In 2014, Canadian ferry operator Marine Atlantic became the first customer outside Europe to use Hogia TOS. The solution, being a seamless integration between BOOKIT and Hogia TOS is one of the first of its kind in the marine industry, with real-time data synchronisation between terminal operating system and ferry reservation system.

Integrated solutionsHogia Transport Systems develops tailored components that complement the standard software packages that we, together with our partners provide. This enables our customers to choose the most cost-effective standard solutions, but also obtain customised solutions that meet their specific requirements. Today, many transport providers are broadening their range of services. For instance, companies that previously only provided transport services may now also offer storage and goods handling. As a result, there is a fast-growing need for well-integrated software solutions.

Port of Trelleborg, Scandinavia’s largest RoRoThe work with integrated transportation flows is essential to the systems within the sector. At Port of Trelleborg, Scandinavia’s largest RoRo port and one of the selected core ports within the EU Ten-T network, the Terminal System handles (in average) about 12,000 messages a day, from status reports to amendments and updates. The system acts like a hub within the information flow, the heart of communications between various players, such as train operators and shipping lines. Hogia Terminal System is integrated with over 50 different partners including container owners, ferry operators and gate operating systems.

Sustainable ITSustainability is a part of our everyday life. We are constantly developing and integrating sustainable responsibility into our business. Sustainable IT means we will act responsibly in mainly three areas:

• Environmental

• Financial responsibility

• Social and ethical responsibility

The six largest Scandinavian public transport authorities as well as several regional and local authorities use Hogia as their integration platform, resulting in more than 80% of public transportation being run through our standard systems.

Hogia UniLog is an integration interface developed by Hogia and used within the Hogia Transport sector. UniLog was developed to provide our partners with a well-defined standard interface framework for integration. Hogia Transport naturally also work with well-proven standards within the Transport sector, such as EDIFACT, PapiNet and GS1.
