Inside Immanuel Monthly
Most holy God, the earth is filled with your glory, and before you angels and saints stand in awe. Enlarge our vision to see your power at work in the world, and by your grace make us heralds of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. Amen.
From the Pastor By Pastor Gretchen J. Bingea
On January 27th, the first service in our almost finished Immanuel Sanctuary was held. There were 136 parishioners who came to celebrate the fruits of our Build Us Up, Lord! campaign. About 80 people stayed following worship for a light meal and the annual congregational meeting in our remodeled fellowship hall on the lower level. From all reports it was a glorious, joyful day!
Unfortunately, I was unable to be with you that day. My husband Will suffered a mild heart attack on Friday evening and we were in the hospital on Sunday. Thankfully he is now on the road to
recovery, and I’m grateful to Immanuel member and retired pastor Jim Grunow for leading worship in my absence, and to all of you for the prayers and good wishes.
While you were celebrating at Immanuel, I was reading a meditation written by a chaplain at the hospital as we awaited a procedure for Will. The reflection piece focused on the healing imagery in hospitals including an outside patio where patients enjoy the peaceful presence of a garden, flowing fountain, and fresh air; inspiring photographs on the wall; and a chapel with religious symbols to nurture faith. As the writer put it, “Everyone benefits when the beautiful and the symbolic, as well as the practical, is included in the building and its environment. Beauty and openness nourish the imagination and the depth of a person’s soul.”
Those words describe the benefits for our community of faith too. As we create spaces to accentuate beauty, wholeness, unity and intimacy, they help bring us together as the body of Christ to deepen our worship and fellowship. Please join me as we give glory to God for our new space with a special Dedication Service on Transfiguration Sunday, March 3, 4:30pm. We look forward to celebrating with one another, other churches, neighbors, and the wonderful architects, engineers, general contractors, sub-contractors, and suppliers who helped us realize our vision!

Love With All

Sunday Education Hour Opportunities Refugee Assistance
Immanuel members have an opportunity to extend loving friendship and support to a newly arrived refugee family. The Betoubam
family arrived in Boise early this fall under the sponsorship of the International Refugee Committee. They were members of a Luther-
an church in their country of origin, the Central African Republic, and would like to attend Immanuel Lutheran. Please consider gath-
ering with a group of interested members on February 3rd, between services to discuss how we may best help this family. There are
specific things that they will need help such as transportation to Sunday morning services and support in more general
ways. Interested in helping? Please contact: Ellen Anderson [email protected], Jim Grunow [email protected] or
Matt Christman [email protected]. You don’t need to attend the meeting to volunteer to help.
Luther Heights
Join Kelly Preboski, Executive Director of Luther Heights Bible Camp, for an intergenerational activity between worship services on Sunday February 17th in the Thomas Chapel. This is intended for all ages and you do not need to have children with you to attend. Come and explore the theme verse for Luther Heights 2019 programming: "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God--what is good and acceptable and perfect" (Romans 12:2). Kelly will lead participants to discover what this Scripture verse means through discussion, creative activity and reflection time.
Annual Congregational Meeting Highlights
The Immanuel Congregational Meeting was held in the newly remodeled Fellowship Hall on Sunday, January 27, 2019.
Council President Jo Stensass conducted the meeting and approximately 80 members were in attendance. A new budget of
$329,977.20 for 2019 was approved. A motion to approve a new Endowment Fund Windfall Policy was approved. Any gift
(not designated for a specific purpose) equal to or exceeding $20,000 will be split 70% to the Endowment Fund and 30% to
non-Endowment needs as determined by the Church Council. Additionally a new Conflict of Interest Policy was approved and
will be added to the bylaws. It states no Church Council member will vote on any matter resulting in a financial benefit to their
family or household member. The members approved officially changing the name of the Overflow Room to the Hospitality
Room as it is used more often for hospitality and sounds welcoming. New council members were elected and Jan Gieselman
and Shane Maskalick were elected as Synod Representatives for 2019.
Endowment Committee Looking for Members Here’s your chance to make a long term impact on the mission work of Immanuel! The Church Council is now looking for members for the Endowment Committee who may have experience or skills in the following areas: Investment management Marketing and Communications Social Work Social ministry Non-profit management Education Fund raising Accounting Insurance Legal Banking It is anticipated that the Endowment Committee will hold monthly 2-hour meetings throughout 2019. They will review and recommend updates to the Mission Endowment Fund policies and procedures, seek Congregational input, and plan marketing and communica-tions to increase the Mission Endowment Fund which currently has a balance of $10,400. This is a wonderful opportunity to help secure Immanuel’s mission work and provide funding for future generations to share God’s gift of love with all! Please prayerfully consider this service work and indicate your interest to Council President, Les Gieselman. Once the Council has chosen the members, an announcement will be made and the new committee will begin its work.

Build Us Up, Lord!
…“ all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28 We are seeing the end of the construction at Immanuel, BUT until you have specific permission please do not move into or set up any area. This request is for safety reasons and so that we don’t impede the sub-contractors as they finish the punch-list items. We will let you know as each area is reopened and available for you. We expect the contractor and subs to be in the building for at least another two weeks to finish areas requiring corrective work. Please contact Mike Schmidt, Martin Hahle, Carolyn Korn or Lois Bauer – in that order – for specific permission to move into an area, even if it looks complete to you. We would also appreciate a call to the church office at 208-344-3011 or email [email protected] if you can volunteer some time to help. We have a lot of groups who need help setting up special spaces. When you call Sandy or Carolyn, you will be able to indicate if you have a talent or choice. They will try to match you with those who can benefit most from your help and abilities. Additionally, for those of you who have been storing items at your home, please email Carolyn Korn, our Parish Administrator, [email protected] or call 208-344-3011 with a description of the items you have been graciously storing and we will let you know when we are ready for you to return those items to the church. All talents given by God are blessings when shared, all prayers of gratitude are received with joy.
As of January 22nd, Immanuel members have pledged or given $1,110,871 to our Build Us Up, Lord! Campaign. We have been richly blessed and we invite you to share in Celebrating Generosity!
Automatic Giving Option If you are already using electronic payments in other areas of your life, you are encouraged to do so with your offerings to the church as well. When you use our online giving program it helps us plan for our ministry needs while providing consistent support over the year. Click on the Give but-ton at the top of the page to set up automatic deductions from your checking, savings or credit card for one-time, weekly, semi-monthly or monthly donations.
