Innovation award for drives company
Integrated, pre-designed packaged HVAC solutions
Building on the launch of the its
8000 Series of pump packages,
Armstrong has launched a new
generation of integrated, pre-
designed packaged pump
solutions. The iFMS (Integrated
Fluid Management Systems) is
a complete fl uid management
system, pre-designed and pre-
assembled by Armstrong which, it
claims, can be confi gured to suit
many applications and off er full
integration of pumps with controls
technology.
In addition, as the pump package
is fully assembled and tested before
it leaves the factory, many potential

project risks are elimi-
nated, says Armstrong.
Poor system integra-
tion during installation
is avoided and the
pump solution can be
manufactured concur-
rently with other parts of
the construction or
refurbishment project to
reduce the schedule.
Changes to spec are
common during the
design phase of a project,
involving consultants and other
engineers in costly re-designs. After
installation, the iFMS’s wider
capabilities can accommodate
variations in requirements resulting
from increased occupant density,
alterations of building design, or
changes to building use so
avoiding costly HVAC refurbishment.
As well as ensuring that the instal-
lation is compliant with 2017 legis-
lation on pump motor effi ciency,
the in-built intelligence delivers
energy savings of up to 70%,
reducing carbon impact in excess
of current legal requirements.

Honing machine off ers to double productionOhio Tool Works (OTW), a manufac-
turer of honing machines, tooling
and abrasives has launched the OTW
Twin-Spindle 5000 honing machine.
The OTW Twin-Spindle 5000 was
designed for suppliers of pump
barrels and other high volume
extraction related products achieve
new levels of productivity while
protecting the dimensional integ-
rity of their thin-wall, small diam-
eter, parts. The OTW Twin-Spindle
5000 off ers an ‘turn-key’ package
of proprietary honing technologies
and advantages, including:
Twin parallel spindles for simulta-•
neous production of two barrels
Quick-change, hydraulic fi xturing •
for rapid part clamp and
un-clamp
Specialized tooling and •
cutting fl uid formulations to
improve straightness, surface
fi nish and preserve wall integrity
in DOM tubing, brass and
chrome plate
Independent feed systems for •
adjusting stock removal rates
between parts
The OTW Twin-Spindle 5000 off ers pump
barrel manufacturers the opportunity to
potentially double their production.
Automated touch-screen PLC •
controls for easy operation in
the high production
environment
According to Randy Iselt, OTW’s
Vice President of Sales, the OTW
Twin-Spindle 5000 off ers pump
barrel manufacturers the opportu-
nity to potentially double their
production.
“By balancing the needs for high
volume output with small-diam-
eter honing precision, the Twin-
Spindle 5000 addresses the
specifi c needs of our customers in
the oil industry and the pump
barrel market in particular.” said
Mr. Iselt.

Welshpool based variable speed
drives manufacturer, Invertek
Drives, was named winner in the
Best International Trade category
in the UK Energy Innovation
Awards 2013 fi nals held in
Manchester, UK in April.
The Best International Trade
Award, sponsored by the UK
Government organisation UK Trade
& Industry, aimed to recognise
businesses which are taking steps
to ensure that international trade
becomes a signifi cant proportion
of their business, as well as those
where import and export already
plays a major role in their
operation.
Invertek Drives, the only Welsh
company to make it through to
the fi nal, won the coveted title
because of the energy saving
potential of its products and its
performance in export markets.
Established in 1998, Invertek now
sells its products in more than 80
countries worldwide through a
network of international sales part-
ners; export trade currently
accounts for more than 90% of
the independently owned compa-
ny’s business.
Invertek claim that its AC inverters,
used to control the speed of elec-
tric motors, can reduce energy
consumption by more than 50% in
industrial, HVAC and pump appli-
cations by matching motor speeds
to the exact requirements of each
application.
The company has invested heavily
over recent years in the develop-
ment of the Optidrive P2 range of
industrial drives and the Optidrive
HVAC range for building services
automation and pump control
applications. The E2 general
purpose drive completes this suite
of energy saving products to suit a
range of applications around the
world.
