It is my privilege to welcome you to an evening of beautiful music from your West Australian Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. On behalf of WASO, we are delighted to share this wonderful event with the people of Perth, and with those in regional Western Australia via a live broadcast and webcast.
At WASO our mission is to touch souls and enrich lives through music, and that’s exactly what tonight is about. We are passionate about making symphonic music relevant and accessible to the entire State, and are supremely grateful to our two major sponsors, Lotterywest and City of Perth, whose support has enabled us to provide this free event for over 10 years.
We also thank WASO’s Principal Partner, Wesfarmers Arts, and media partners The West Australian and 720 ABC Perth.
Enjoy tonight, and we hope to see you again at a WASO concert in 2018 at our performance home, Perth Concert Hall.
It’s my great pleasure to welcome you to the 2017 Lotterywest Symphony in the City. On behalf of Lotterywest, we are thrilled to partner with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra to present this free concert for the people of Western Australia.
Tonight, the magic of a live symphony orchestra will be shared across the State through a regional broadcast. Thank you to the Department of Regional Development and Westlink for their role in broadcasting this evening’s performance.
Every year Lotterywest distributes grants to the State’s health, art and sport sectors as well as hundreds of organisations across WA – including WASO. In fact, last year our grant support totalled $265 million – a feat we wouldn’t be able to achieve without our players and retailers.
That means you helped make tonight happen – we hope you enjoy the concert!

WASO COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
Did you know? WASO is a not-for-profit charitable organisation that depends on the generosity of our Patrons to remain at the cultural heart of Western Australia, presenting joyful and inspiring music both onstage at Perth Concert Hall and across our vast State.
Today you will see our wonderful volunteers collecting cash donations before the concert. All these funds go towards WASO’s award-winning Education & Community Engagement programs. Across this enormous State, we engage with audiences, big and small, whatever their circumstances. We want everyone to have access to music education and to experience the joy of live music.
Feeling generous? You can help out further by supporting a Crescendo student to take up the violin! A $150 tax-deductible donation enables us to purchase a student-sized violin for a Crescendo student. Find out more about our amazing Crescendo program in Kwinana by talking to us today or visiting waso.com.au/supportus.
A huge thank you for your support and enjoy the concert!

EL SISTEMA INSPIRED MUSICEDUCATION PROGRAM
WASO’s Crescendo Program, modelled on the international El Sistema program, seeks to empower children through music. Crescendo is delivered by WASO at no cost in two primary schools in Kwinana, and provides weekly music lessons at school.
After three years as a vocal-based program, our students are now preparing to take up violin lessons from the beginning of 2018.
You can now make your most meaningful Christmas gift yet by:
1. Supporting a Crescendo student or carer to attend a WASO concert for $30*.
2. Enabling a student to take up the violin! A $150 tax-deductible donation will see us purchase a student-sized violin for a Crescendo student.
3. Covering the cost of one student per year with a of $1,500* to help make Crescendo a long term sustainable program.
All Crescendo students participate in the program for seven years, from Pre-Primary through to Year 6. We believe all children should have the opportunity to experience the joy of music as part of their education.
Help us provide violins for our Crescendo kids this Christmas!
*All donations over $2 are tax deductible
