PASADENA POLICE ACADEMY RULES

1. NO tobacco products allowed in any City of Pasadena facility. Additionally, the firing range is a designated NO SMOKING facility.

2. NO food is allowed in the classrooms or computer lab.

3. DRESS CODE:

• SHIRT W/COLLAR & SLEEVES

• SLACKS OR NICE DENIM JEANS W/BELT ONLY.

• SHOES ONLY – NO SANDALS.

• NO BASEBALL STYLE CAPS WILL BE WORN IN CLASSROOMS.

COURSES COURSE: BASIC PATROL RIFLE LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATES: December 13-17, 2010 (40 hrs) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm (1:00pm-9:00pm on Thursday) TUITION: $125.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course consists of some classroom, but predominately range instruction. The course stresses rifle marksmanship from short to intermediate ranges (150 yards), as well as weapons manipulations, retention and maintenance. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• Semi-Auto rifle (preferably 5.56mm – AR-15/M-16 Series) with three magazines, a sling, and a white light

• Police duty sidearm, duty rig and spare magazines for pistol • 2000 rounds rifle ammunition / 300 rounds pistol ammunition • Firearms cleaning equipment • Eye and ear protection • Ground cloth to lay on is recommended but not required • Inclement weather gear/waterproof footwear may be helpful but not required • Drinking water not required but highly recommended

NOTE: Due to class popularity, repeat students will automatically be placed on a waiting list in favor of first time attendees.

COURSE: BUILDING SEARCH LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATE: October 5-6, 2010 (16 hrs) 8:00 am – first day TUITION: $50.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This 16 hour course will focus on basic building search techniques related to patrol work. It will cover the approach, door and window entries, low light searches, single and multiple officer searches, and suspect control. Students will participate in practical exercises and live fire “Simunition” training scenarios. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• Comfortable clothing • Duty or tactical belt and sidearm • Body armor • 100 rounds pistol ammunition

This course will cover searching techniques with both sidearm and long gun if the student is so equipped. COURSE LIMITED TO 20 STUDENTS

COURSE OBJECTIVE: The goal of this course is to increase the officer’s textbook knowledge of the Pasadena Rules & Regulations concerning Weapons and develop his/her proficiency in gun handling skills while under concealed carry and covert carry conditions.

COURSE: INTERMEDIATE USE OF FORCE #2107 LOCATION: Pasadena Police Academy DATE: August 9-10, 2010 (16 hrs) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm TUITION: $50.00

INTERMEDIATE CORE COURSE #2107 COURSE: LOW LIGHT CLOSE QUARTER CONFLICT RESOLUTION LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATE: November 23, 2010 (8 hrs) 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm TUITION: $25.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This 16 hour course will focus on various types of low light shooting options and the use of lights to search and resolve officer /suspect encounters. The course is designed to improve the officer’s probability of winning a close quarter encounter and will teach the officer how to recognize varying types of lighting conditions and how to apply the concepts and principles learned to win the encounter. Other course topics will include mindset, lighting tool selection and reality based low light “Simunition” scenarios. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• Pistol and duty rig with 400 rounds ammunition • Baseball style cap, long sleeve shirt recommended for Simunition training • Flashlight/extra batteries • Body armor • Eye and ear protection • Groin protection

COURSE: LOW LIGHT PISTOL I LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATE: November 15, 2010 (8 hrs) 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm TUITION: $25.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course is designed to familiarize officers with shooting in less than ideal light conditions, and to improve the officer’s skills in weapons manipulations (reloading, clearing malfunctions and marksmanship) while using a flashlight. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• Duty rig and sidearm with at least 3 magazines (no shoulder holsters) • 400 rounds of ammunition • Eye and ear protection • Soft body armor • Flashlight • Baseball cap, Inclement weather gear (not required but recommended)

COURSE: LOW LIGHT PISTOL II LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATE: November 22, 2010 (8 hrs) 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm TUITION: $25.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This is an advanced Low Light shooting course that will enhance the officer’s ability to manipulate and shoot his weapon in less than ideal lighting conditions. Focus will be placed on target identification and acquisition, position shooting, room entries, vehicle operations and shooting from various cover positions. Both pistol and shotgun tactics will be employed. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• Duty rig and sidearm with at least 3 magazines (no shoulder holsters) • 400 rounds of ammunition • Eye and ear protection • Soft body armor • Flashlight • Baseball cap • Inclement weather gear (not required but recommended) • 25 rounds "00" buck

COURSE: LOW LIGHT RIFLE LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATE: December 6-7, 2010 (16 hrs) 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm TUITION: $50.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course is a follow-up course to the basic patrol rifle course. Officers attending this course should have already completed a recognized basic patrol rifle school. Officers should have a rifle with an integrated lighting system that is zeroed and reliable. This course will emphasize deployment of the rifle in low light conditions in both stand-off and search environments. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• Semi-automatic or select fire rifle with light mount • At least three (3) magazines (AR-15/M-16 series weapons are recommended) • Police duty sidearm, duty rig and spare magazines for pistol • 800 rounds rifle ammunition/100 rounds pistol ammunition • Firearms cleaning equipment • Eye and ear protection • Ground cloth/shooting pad to lay on but not required

COURSE: POLICE DRIVING SKILLS & DRILLS I LOCATION: Police Driving Track DATE: September 27-28, 2010 (16 hrs) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm TUITION: $50.00 (OUTSIDE AGENCIES ARE REQUIRED TO FURNISH THEIR OWN VEHICLE) COURSE OBJECTIVE: The classroom portion of the class covers the legal aspects of emergency vehicle operation including case law and pursuits. Vehicle dynamics and ways to improve driver performance are discussed. During the practical aspects of the course the student will inspect his/her vehicle for mechanical flaws before practicing driving techniques learned from the classroom. The student will manipulate the vehicle through several challenging courses in an attempt to attain peak performance from the vehicle while honing personal driving skills. Equipment: Weather related clothing for inclement weather (hats, sunglasses, sun screen)

Drinking water is not required but highly recommended. COURSE: POLICE DRIVING SKILLS & DRILLS II LOCATION: Police Driving Track DATE: November 29-30, 2010 (16 hrs) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm TUITION: $50.00 (OUTSIDE AGENCIES ARE REQUIRED TO FURNISH THEIR OWN VEHICLES) COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course is a follow-up to Driving Skills I. Officers will utilize the skills they learned in Part I and will continue to develop these skills as well as learning and utilizing new skills. Topics included in this course will involve night driving and pursuits. These topics will include both classroom and practical driving instruction. The fast track will be used during this course of instruction. Prerequisite: A successful completion of Police Driving Skills & Drills I. Equipment: Weather related clothing for inclement weather (hats, sunglasses, sun screen)

Drinking water is not required but highly recommended. COURSE: POLICE SUV DRIVING SKILLS & DRILLS LOCATION: Police Driving Track DATE: October 28, 2010 (8 hrs) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm TUITION: $25.00 (OUTSIDE AGENCIES ARE REQUIRED TO FURNISH THEIR OWN VEHICLES) COURSE OBJECTIVE: In this age where SUV type vehicles are becoming more and more prevalent as emergency vehicles, it is imperative that the operator knows the capabilities and limitations of his/her vehicle. This course will incorporate a classroom discussion of the differences required in operating an SUV type emergency vehicle as opposed to the more traditional police sedan. Driving courses will then be undertaken on the driving pad which will include coned as well as backing courses. Although there are inherent risks in any driving course which are potentially increased when driving an SUV type vehicle, safety is paramount during this course and precautionary steps will be steadfastly adhered to. The student will be required to provide their own SUV type vehicle to drive. SUV’s equipped with a police package are preferred however not required. Equipment: Weather related clothing for inclement weather (hats, sunglasses, sun screen)

COURSE: TACTICAL PISTOL I LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATE: August 16, 2010 (8 hrs) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm TUITION: $25.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course covers the use of the pistol in dynamic, lethal force encounters. This course will stress fast, accurate shot placement, speed of presentation and manipulation, proper use of cover, shooting on the move, engagement of moving targets and deployment from vehicles. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• Semi-automatic pistol with three (3) magazines • Body armor • Eye and ear protection • 500 rounds ammunition • Inclement weather gear • Gun cleaning equipment

COURSE: TACTICAL PISTOL II LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATE: September 7, 2010 (8 hrs) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm TUITION: $25.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course will be a follow-up to TACTICAL PISTOL I and will cover a brief overview of the mechanics learned in TACTICAL PISTOL I. Emphasis will be placed on the dynamic use of the pistol involving multiple suspect engagement, various speeds of movement, shooting and moving, use of cover, shooting from a vehicle, hostage/suspect threat identification, and live fire shoot house scenarios. The course will incorporate a variety of steel targets and the moving target system. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• Pistol with three (3) magazines • Soft body armor • Eye and ear protection • 500 rounds pistol ammunition • Inclement weather gear • Gun cleaning equipment

COURSE: Two Gun Tactics LOCATION: Les Early Firearms Training Center DATE: September 20-21, 2010 (16 hrs) 8:00 am – 4:00 pm TUITION: $50.00 COURSE OBJECTIVE: This course is designed to familiarize and enhance the officer’s skills with both a pistol and shotgun when used together in tactical situations. Individual shooting skills with both the pistol and shotgun will be conducted along with transition drills, multiple target drills and weapons manipulation from a vehicle. A tactical skills test with both weapons will be conducted. MANDATORY EQUIPMENT:

• 400 rounds pistol ammunition • 100 rounds field loads • 50 “00” buck • 25 slugs • Eye and ear protection • Duty rig with 3 magazines • Duty Shotgun (sling is recommended) • Baseball style cap • Concealable body armor is also recommended
